The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: this is a tough 16-day window for Little Talbot Island. The pattern is stubbornly small and underwhelming for the foreseeable future. We’ve got a long gap of near-flat conditions before anything even remotely worth mentioning.
The first real hint of anything rideable doesn’t show up until Sunday, August 3rd, and even then we’re talking about tiny, weak waves. The water temp is sitting at a warm 84°F with a barely-there anomaly of 0.4°F, so it’s just about average for this time of year – no shock there for a beach break.
The whole first week is a write-off. From the start through the 3rd, we’re looking at swell heights of 0.7ft to 1.0ft, occasional brief bumps to 2ft. The combined wave energy is almost non-existent, with values like 10 and 24 (weak energy). Winds are mostly cross-off or offshore, but there’s simply no swell to work with.
Sunday, August 3rd through Tuesday, August 5th is the only faint pulse. The swell nudges up to 2ft to 3ft from the SE, with a short period of 6 to 7 seconds. The combined energy climbs a bit, hitting 62 (moderate energy) on Tuesday morning. The standout moment is Wednesday morning, August 5th – glassy conditions with 2ft of ESE swell. It’s surfable, but it’s very ordinary. Don’t expect any power.
After that, it drops back into the doldrums. The swell stays tiny, mostly 1ft to 2ft, with very low energy readings (17 to 56). The winds are a mix of cross-off and cross-shore, but again, the lack of swell makes it all irrelevant.
The best of the worst is likely Wednesday morning, August 5th with the glassy conditions, but it’s a stretch to call it a standout. Everything else is a lesson in patience. For a beach break like this, short-period SE swell with that little size won’t offer much. The setup is more interesting for a paddleboard than a performance surfboard.
Hang in there. Forecasts can change, but right now, this is a long wait.
