The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here, looking at the same charts for Lighthouse, but this time in feet and miles per hour. The next couple of weeks start a bit slow, but there's some serious juice waiting for us if we're patient.
The first real action worth talking about kicks off on Wednesday, July 22nd. We've got a solid 6.9ft SW groundswell rolling in with a long 13-second period, and the morning is looking clean with a light offshore breeze. The wave energy is pumping hard at 1811, so that's a solid, powerful punch. This is for the experienced crew, as it's pushing the 8ft mark, but the quality is there. Later that afternoon, the swell holds at 7.2ft, and though the wind shifts cross-on, it's still light, so it's worth a session if you're keen.
The standout, and I mean the real standout, is Thursday, July 23rd. The morning is calling my name. You've got a 5.6ft SW groundswell, a 14-second period, and a clean offshore breeze from the ENE. The combined energy is 1154, which is just right. It's not too big, but it's got plenty of grunt. Then, get this, the afternoon goes glassy. 5.2ft, 14 seconds, and flat calm. The water temp is sitting at 66.2°, which is about average for this time of year, so no need for a thick wetsuit. That Thursday afternoon session is going to be one for the memory banks.
Friday, July 24th drops off a bit in size to 3.6ft, but the wind is light and cross-off, keeping it clean. It's a good option for the beginner crew. The energy drops to 434, so it's a mellower day.
Saturday, July 25th is a bit of a write-off with moderate cross-off winds and smaller swell. The energy is still in the 500-600 range, but the wind is a bit stronger, making it a bit of a chop fest.
Sunday, July 26th is a total mess. We've got a big 9.8ft SW swell, but it's coming with a howling 25 mph cross-on wind. The wave energy is massive at 3451, but it's going to be a washing machine. That's a hard pass. This setup, with that much swell and strong wind at a beach and reef spot, looks a lot more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Monday, July 27th cleans up a bit. The swell drops to 6.9ft, and the wind is cross-off. It's still a bit of a handful, but the energy is 1475, so it's got some juice. The morning is the better call.
Tuesday, July 28th is another solid day. The morning has a 5.6ft SW swell with a 14-second period and a fresh offshore breeze. The afternoon is even better, dropping to 5.2ft, but the wind stays offshore, making it clean and punchy. The energy is 1363, so it's got plenty of power.
Wednesday, July 29th is a bit of a drop-off in size, but the period is very long at 17 seconds. The afternoon is the pick, with a 3.9ft SW swell and a light offshore. The energy is 874, but that long period will make it feel a bit more powerful.
Thursday, July 30th is a small, glassy day. The afternoon is the best of the week, with a 2.3ft W swell, a 20-second period, and zero wind. It's glassy. The energy is 719, so it's a gentle wave, but perfect for a longboard.
Friday, July 31st is a solid day. The morning has a 5.2ft W swell pushing 15 seconds, with a clean cross-off breeze. The energy is 1232. The afternoon is a bit smaller but still clean.
Now, for the long-range promise. Saturday, August 1st is a big one. We're looking at a 13.1ft NNW swell, but it's a short period at 10 seconds. The energy is massive at 3618. The morning has a gentle offshore, so it's clean, but that size is only for experts. The afternoon is a bit smaller at 11.5ft. This is a big swell, but the short period means it might be a bit lumpy and straight at the beach.
Sunday, August 2nd is similar, with a 11.5ft WNW swell. The wind is fresh offshore, which is good, but the energy is still high. Again, expert territory.
Monday, August 3rd through Wednesday, August 5th is a period of strong, clean cross-off winds, but the swell is huge and the energy is off the charts. You're looking at 9.8ft to 13.1ft swells, with combined energy readings of 4873 to 8037. The wind is strong, but it's cross-off, so the faces will be clean. This is big, powerful, and dangerous.
