The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here, let’s see what’s cooking.

Honestly, it’s a pretty grim stretch for Law Street. We’re looking at a solid 16-day window, but the surf is just not cooperating. For the first two weeks, from August 11th right through to August 25th, it’s a real struggle. The swell is there, but it’s weak, short-period, and the wind is consistently a problem. The energy is mostly moderate, but it doesn’t matter because the conditions are just messy.

The best we can hope for is a little glimpse of something on Saturday, August 15th. The morning has a 3ft SW swell with a 16-second period, which is a nice long groundswell, and the wind is a light cross-onshore, so it’s not all chop. The wave energy is moderate. It’s still pretty small, but the light wind might give you a few clean little lines if you’re patient. It’s a beginner spot, so that’s your target.

The only other standout is way out on Wednesday, August 26th. The morning shows a 4ft S swell with a 17-second period and a very strong combined energy. The wind is a gentle cross-onshore, so it’s still not glassy. The afternoon gets a little better with a lighter cross-onshore breeze (3 mph). That’s the one day in the whole run where the swell actually has some grunt, but it’s still cross-onshore, so it’s not going to be perfect. It’s a long-range promise, so keep an eye on it.

There’s a gap of about 11 days here with no real quality, so if you’re desperate, paddle out on the 15th or wait for the 26th. The water is much warmer than normal for the time of year at 75°F with a 7°F anomaly, which is very unusual.

Rusty.
