The Lowdown
Alright, listen up. We're in for a rough stretch at Lalafatna. That water is running mighty cold too, about 67°F, which is well below the norm for this time of year. Gonna need a good hood.
The first week is basically a total loss. We're looking at waist-high slop, maybe 3 to 4 feet, with short, weak 6-second periods. The energy is weak, and the wind is just a constant northerly chop, making everything lumpy and confused. Saturday and Sunday are a complete write-off, and the start of next week isn't much better. The swell is there, but it's messy and the wind is just killing it.
The swell does start to fill in a bit more mid-week, with the energy picking up to over 300, but it's still short-period wind swell. The waves are going to be soft and fat, and the wind is still cross-onshore. It's going to be a frustrating few days for anyone trying to get a wave.
The first real chance of something clean comes on Sunday the 17th. The wind finally swings around to a light offshore, cleaning up the 4-foot swell. It's not big, but it'll be the most usable waves we've seen so far. Then, the standout is Tuesday morning, the 19th. The wind drops to almost nothing, leaving it glassy. The swell is still small, around 4 feet, but with that kind of clean surface, it'll be the best the break will look for the entire forecast. It’s your best bet for a few smooth ones.
After that, it's back to the choppy, onshore slop. The energy actually spikes on the 22nd, with a big reading, but the period is still short and the wind is onshore, so it’s just going to be a messy, powerful shorebreak. The last morning, the 23rd, has another glassy window, but the swell is dropping. It's a small window to try and snag something half-decent.
Honestly, if you're not a glutton for punishment, I'd be looking at other pastimes for most of these two weeks. The only real surfable window is Tuesday morning the 19th. For everything else, you might want to consider a kite. This setup is far more interesting for them than it is for us.
