The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a real standout on Saturday the 8th. The morning session at La Derecha del Medio is looking pretty special. We’re looking at a 4.3ft swell from the SSE, with a solid 11-second period. That’s some decent groundswell energy, and the combined energy is sitting at 451 (moderate wave energy). The real kicker is the wind. We’ve got a light NW breeze blowing straight offshore, which is going to leave the surface buttery clean. For a sheltered spot, those conditions are a gift. The water temperature is about average for this time of year. Keep in mind, this break is inconsistent, so when it’s on, you get in the water. And because it can get crowded sometimes, you’ll want to be early.
Sunday morning, the 9th, is the absolute best of the whole forecast. The swell bumps up to 5.2ft from the S, period still at 11 seconds, and the energy is cranked right up to 1067 (strong wave energy). Combine that with a clean W offshore wind, and you’ve got the makings of a proper session. This is your window. The afternoon both days goes cross-off and gets a bit bumpy, so stick to the mornings.
Now, after that, it’s a bit of a dry spell. Monday the 10th through to Friday the 14th is a write-off. The swell sticks around, but the wind goes onshore or cross-shore, and the quality drops right out. The period stays decent, but with the onshore wind, it’s just messy. We’ve got a long gap here with no real recommendations.
We do get a little flicker of hope on the 20th of August, a Thursday. There’s a 6.2ft to 6.6ft swell from the SSW, but the period is a short 7 seconds. That’s windswell, fat and weak. The wind is offshore or cross-off, so it’ll be clean, but the waves won’t have any punch. The combined energy is moderate (326 to 440). For the more experienced crew, it might be worth a paddle, but the short period means it’ll be a bit lumpy and won’t hold shape well. Probably better suited for a kite than a surfboard.
The rest of the run into the 23rd is small, weak, and windy. Nothing to get excited about.
So, to wrap it up: your best bet is Saturday morning the 8th, but the real standout, the one to circle on the calendar, is Sunday morning the 9th. Get in there before the wind swings.
