The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here again, this time in feet and knots for the old-school crew.

Let’s talk about La Derecha del Barco. It’s a point break for the advanced crew only, exposed to the south-east. Water temp is around 55°F, which is a touch warmer than usual, so it’s not too bad.

The start of this run is a total dud. Wednesday and Thursday have next to nothing – 1 to 2 foot slop with no push. Not worth getting wet.

We do see a pulse of south swell arrive on Friday the 7th, hitting about 10 feet at 10 seconds, but with a screaming 28 mph crosswind, it’s a washing machine. The energy gauge is reading strong, but it’s unruly.

The first real winner comes on Saturday morning, August 8th. We’ve got a clean 4 to 5 foot SSE swell at 11 seconds, and the wind is offshore out of the northwest at 12 mph. The faces will be glassy and lined up, giving you proper point-break walls. Energy is moderate at 450. It’s likely to get a crowd here, so be ready to share. That’s your go-to for the first week.

After that, we hit a dry spell with onshore winds and poor quality until we get to Tuesday morning, August 18th. This is the one. The forecast shows a 10 foot SSW swell, but the wind drops to almost nothing from the west at 3 mph. That’s as close to glass as you get. The energy reading punches up to 2034 – a heavy-duty groundswell. This is for experts only. That size at a point with perfect conditions will give you heaving, long barrels if you’re good enough.

The afternoon of the 18th sees even bigger 11-foot waves, but the wind turns onshore and chops things up. Stick to that Tuesday morning window.

After that, it’s back to lumpy cross-shore junk through to the end of the outlook. So take note: there’s a long quiet stretch, then one epic morning on the 18th for the brave.

Rusty.

Short Range Forecast
