The Lowdown
Alright mate, let’s be real. This is gonna be a slow burner. There’s one spot to keep an eye on, but you’ll be waiting.
That break is La Couronne. It’s an inconsistent one, and most of the next week is a bust. The water is reading 79°, which is about 8° warmer than normal – that’s a very unusual jump. The combined swell energy is tiny, only clocking a 10 (10) on Thursday the 16th.
Thursday the 16th has a tiny 1ft swell from the SSW, with a period around 5 seconds. The morning is glassy and clean, just no power. The afternoon gets a light onshore wind. After that, we’re looking at a long dry spell. From late Friday the 17th all the way through to about Thursday the 24th of July, it’s basically flat. You’ll see plenty of strong offshore winds from the NNW, but nothing to ride.
Things perk up a little right at the tail end of the run. On Saturday the 26th of July, the morning offers a small 2ft swell from the SW, period of 5 seconds, and the combined energy is 25 (25). The wind is a light cross-offshore from the NNE – nice and clean. It’s still small and inconsistent, so maybe a couple of fun waves.
The best of the bunch is the last day of the month. Wednesday the 30th of July morning has a 2ft swell from the SW, period at 6 seconds, and energy of 39 (39). The wind is glassy – that’s a big win for clean surfaces. The afternoon gets a touch bigger at 3ft from the SE, but with a cross-onshore breeze making it choppy.
Don’t sleep on Thursday the 31st of July morning either. You’ve got a 3ft swell from the SSE, a longer period of 7 seconds, and energy rising to 68 (68). The wind is glassy again – that’s your cleanest, most promising window, though still small and inconsistent. The afternoon stays similar in size but the wind swings onshore.
So here’s the truth: a lot of nothing, then a handful of small, clean, glassy windows in the last week of July. The swell never hits 5ft, so beginners are fine, but the inconsistency will keep the crowds light. If you’re desperate, hold out for the morning of the 29th or that glassy Thursday the 30th.
Patience, brother. Rusty.
