The Lowdown

Alright, mates, Rusty here. I’ve looked at the forecast for Kirbys Point, and I’ve got to be honest with you – it’s bleak. We’ve got a long 16-day stretch, but the surf is mostly flat or just plain bad. We’re looking at a long stretch of poor conditions, so if you’re thinking about getting wet, you might want to find something else to do.

The next few days are a total write-off. Monday the 3rd kicks off with storm risks and cross-shore winds, and the swell is a flat zero. Tuesday the 4th isn’t any better – we’re talking tiny, gutless waves that are barely breaking, with the energy meters just ticking over at 20 and 63. The wind is onshore, chopping everything up. Honestly, it’s not even worth pulling the wetsuit on.

Wednesday the 5th through Sunday the 9th, we’re stuck in the same pattern. Swell heights are all under 3 feet, with short, weak periods – mostly in the 5-7 second range. There’s a bit of energy here and there, but the wave quality is rated poor all the way through. The wind is all over the place, mostly cross or cross-onshore, keeping the surface messy. Friday the 7th has a fresh breeze, which is just adding lump to an already sad situation.

We hit a bit of a lull from Monday the 10th through Wednesday the 12th. The swell drops right off. There’s a morning on Tuesday the 11th that’s glassy, but the swell is only 0.3 feet. That’s not surf, that’s a pond. The energy is essentially zero.

The second week doesn’t offer anything better. From Wednesday the 13th through Tuesday the 18th, we’re still looking at these tiny, weak swells. There are a few moments with some light offshore or cross-offshore winds, like Thursday the 13th afternoon, but the swell is just too small to do anything with. The wave energy stays in the weak to moderate range, never really getting going.

So, the long and short of it is: there is no standout session in this entire forecast. There are no good options. I’m not going to sugarcoat it. We’ve got a blank run on our hands. The swell direction is mostly from the south and southeast, but with this little energy, it doesn’t matter. It’s a dead period.

Keep the board waxed anyway, mate. Forecasts change. But for now, this is about as poor as it gets.

Rusty.
