Table - best surf conditions forecast for Kailua Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with ya, the whole 16-day window is a bit of a dud. We’ve got a big gap right at the start with nothing worth paddling out for, and honestly, the whole run looks pretty grim. There’s a solid block of onshore and cross-onshore winds from the ENE that just won’t quit, and the swell is mostly short-period, wind-driven stuff. It’s a long stretch of poor surf conditions, so if you’re itching for a wave, you might be better off tuning in again next week.
The first real stretch of surf we see kicks off on Friday the 10th of July, but it’s a bust. Kailua Beach is showing a 6ft swell from the ENE with a short period of 7 seconds, and a fresh breeze from the ENE is blowing straight onshore. The combined energy is moderate at 348, but it’s all wind chop – no shape, no joy. That theme is gonna stick around for the whole weekend and into the start of the next week. The water temp is about 79°, which is pretty much average for this time of year, so at least you won’t be cold while you’re getting frustrated.
By Tuesday the 14th, the swell drops a bit to 5ft, but the wind is still onshore, so it’s not cleaning up. The brief window of slightly lighter winds mid-week doesn’t save it because the swell is small and the period is still a short 7 seconds. The energy drops into the moderate range (around 254), but the quality is poor.
We get a little bump in size around Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th, with the swell hitting 7ft from the ENE, but the wind is cross-onshore and the period is still short. The energy climbs into the moderate range (477), but it’s lumpy, choppy, and messy. This is the kind of setup that’s more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing – the beach break is just gonna be a washing machine.
The very end of the forecast, around Wednesday the 22nd and into the 25th, shows a weird little spike in period – 14 seconds on the 22nd – but the swell is tiny (2ft to 2ft) and the wind is still fresh and cross-onshore. The energy is moderate (357), but that long period groundswell is too small to do anything useful, and at a beach break, it’s gonna break too straight.
There’s no standout here. No day worth chasing. The whole 16-day window is a washout for Kailua Beach. The trade winds are just locked in, and the swell is all short-period and wind-affected. Keep your stick in the car, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
