Table - best surf conditions forecast for Kailua Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s happening at Kailua Beach.
To be straight with you, the next 16 days are looking pretty grim for a surf. There’s no real highlight, no session you’d want to mark on the calendar. The wind is the big problem, blowing onshore or cross-onshore from the ENE almost non-stop, and that’s going to keep the waves messy.
Kailua Beach is a point break that’s open to the swell, but the water temp is about 79°, which is normal for this time of year. Nothing unusual there.
From Saturday the 11th through Monday the 13th, we’ve got swell running 5ft to 7ft, but it’s all short-period stuff at 7 to 8 seconds, and the wind is a fresh 19 to 22 mph onshore or cross-onshore. The combined energy is moderate, between 384 and 516, but it’s all junk.
Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th see the swell drop to 3ft to 5ft, but the wind stays cross-onshore. Still no good.
From Thursday the 16th all the way through to Saturday the 26th of July, it’s the same pattern. Swell heights bounce between 2ft and 6ft, but the period is short, mostly 6 to 8 seconds, and the wind is a constant ENE breeze at 12 to 19 mph, onshore or cross-onshore. The combined energy is moderate, ranging from 139 to 651, but it’s all wind-swell slop.
There’s a little spike in energy on Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st, with the combined energy hitting 596 and 651, and the period stretching out to 15 to 18 seconds. That’s a proper groundswell, but the wind is still cross-onshore at 16 to 19 mph, so it’s going to be choppy and hard to enjoy. That long-period stuff can also close out at a beach setup like this.
For the next two and a half weeks, there’s nothing here worth paddling out for. The wind is relentless. If you’re into kiting, the consistent onshore wind and moderate swell might be more your thing, but for a surfer, it’s a blank run. That’s just how it goes here sometimes.
Rusty.
