Table - best surf conditions forecast for Kailua Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you about Kailua Beach. This stretch of sand just isn't behaving right now for a proper paddle session. Looking at what's on the table for the next couple of weeks, it's a tough run. The short-period swell is coming in from the ENE and E, but the wind is just not playing ball—mostly cross-on or on, moderate to fresh breezes keeping things lumpy, choppy, and just messy. From this Sunday morning (12th July) right through, every single reading is marked as poor. There's no standout day, no magic window. Even the water temp is bang on average for this time of year at 78.9°, but that doesn't help when the surface is all chopped up.
We've got a long stretch here where the combined swell energy fluctuates, hitting moderate values like 487 on Sunday morning, and getting up to 487 and 501, but with that 8-second period and the ENE wind blowing at 22 mph, it's just a mess. The waves are around the 6.9 ft but it's onshore slop. As we move through Monday (13th July) and Tuesday (14th July), the size drops a little but the wind stays stubbornly cross-on or on. Even when the swell energy drops to the low 100s later in the week, the condition doesn't improve. There's a bit of a weird shift around Monday 20th July and Monday 27th July, where we see a very long period groundswell coming in from the east—17 and 15 seconds respectively—with the swell only at 1.6 ft and 2.6 ft. But the energy readings are up there in the 255 to 476 range, and the wind is still there, cross-on or on. That long period in those conditions at a beach setup like Kailua tends to make waves break too straight and close out, so not the quality we need. Honestly, given the persistent onshore wind and the beach-and-reef setup, this whole outlook looks far more interesting for kite surfing than for a traditional paddle surf. There's simply nothing here for surfers right now. Keep an eye on it, but go somewhere else for a wave.
