Table - best surf conditions forecast for Kailua Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it for Kailua Beach.
Honestly, it’s a rough stretch ahead. We’ve got a solid 16-day window, but the surf is on the menu for pretty much the entire first two weeks, and it’s all pretty average. The wind is the main villain here – it’s hammering in from the ENE almost constantly, blowing fresh and keeping things lumpy, choppy, or just plain messy. There’s a decent amount of swell energy in the water (moderate to strong energy, with values like 525 and 688), but it’s mostly short-period windswell, around 7 to 8 seconds, so it’s lacking that punch and shape you want for a proper session.
The first real window of anything worth looking at doesn’t show up until Tuesday, July 21st. Overnight, the swell direction swings around to a long-period E groundswell, with a period stretching to 16 seconds. That’s a proper groundswell, and it’ll bring some real energy (1019 energy). The wave height drops to around 4 ft, but that long period will make it more powerful and better shaped. It’s a point break setup, so it should handle that long-period swell better than a beach break. The wind is still a cross-offshore, so it won’t be glassy, but it’s a massive improvement on the earlier slop.
The standout here is Tuesday, July 21st morning. That’s your best bet. The swell is coming from the open ocean, it’s long-period, and the energy is solid. The water temp is about average for the time of year, sitting around 79°. It’s a point break, so crowds are possible here, especially on a Tuesday. Just keep in mind that after that, the energy drops off a cliff. By Wednesday, July 22nd, the swell fades to 3 ft with a 15-second period, and the wind turns more cross-onshore, so it’s back to being marginal.
So, for the whole 16 days, there’s basically one decent window. Don’t get too excited about the rest of it. The first two weeks are a write-off for clean surfing. The end of the window has a tiny flicker of hope, but it’s a long-range call, so treat it with a bit of caution.
Rusty.
