The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s on offer at Isla Uvita over the next couple of weeks.
Overall, it’s a mixed bag. We’ve got a persistent pulse of swell, but the wind is going to be the main character, and not always a friendly one. The water is sitting at 84° and the anomaly is just 0.7°, so it’s bang on average for the time of year – no surprises there.
The first real standout I can see is Monday morning, the 24th of August. We’ve got a clean 5ft swell from ENE with a cross-offshore breeze. The energy is moderate at 324, and conditions are described as clean. The offshore wind is a major plus, so you’ll be looking at some tidy lines. This is the pick of the early run.
We then hit a bit of a flat spot in the conditions. The wind gets messy through the rest of the week. However, Wednesday morning the 26th of August is worth a mention. The wind goes glassy, dead calm, and the swell is still 5ft from the ENE. The energy is light at 286, but with that glassy surface, it’ll be a real pleasure if you’re patient. The swell period is a short 9 seconds, so it’s a bit of a windswell, but with no wind, it’ll be fun.
The 28th of August sees a bump in size, with 7ft on the Saturday afternoon, but the wind is cross-onshore, making it a messy prospect. For experts only in those conditions.
Looking further ahead, the 31st of August (Monday) morning has a clean 5ft swell with a cross-offshore breeze. The energy is moderate at 372. That’s a promising session, but it’s a week away, so keep an eye on it.
The next real standout comes on the 1st of September, Tuesday morning. The wind is glassy again, and the swell is 4ft from the ENE. The energy is light at 248, but it’s glassy. For a morning session, you can’t ask for much more.
The 3rd of September, Thursday morning, also has a glassy start with a 4ft swell. Again, light energy at 249, but the clean conditions make it a solid option.
For the last few days, the swell holds in the 6ft to 6ft range on the 6th of September, but it’s cross-onshore, so the quality will be average. The energy is moderate at 533 and 584, but the wind is the spoiler. This setup looks more like a kite-surfing session than a pure paddle session.
So, to sum it up: the best windows are the Monday morning of the 24th of August, the glassy Wednesday morning of the 26th of August, the clean Monday morning of the 31st of August, and the glassy mornings of the 1st and 3rd of September. The rest is a bit of a fight with the wind.
Rusty.
