The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break down the same picture, but in feet and miles per hour.
The next couple of weeks around Isla Uvita is a story of "some swell, but the wind is gonna be the boss." Water temp is about 84°F right now, which is normal for the season, so no weirdness there.
The action kicks off on Saturday the 18th. The morning is a no-go with thunderstorms and dodgy conditions, but the afternoon is a beauty. We’ve got a 7ft swell from the ENE with a 10-second period, and the combined energy is solid at 782 (moderate). The wind goes dead calm, glassy. That’s the ticket. Expect very good surf. This is your standout session for the whole run.
Sunday the 19th is a step down. The cross-onshore wind from the NNW messes things up in the morning and gets worse in the afternoon. Monday the 20th is also marginal, with cross-shore and cross-onshore winds on a 7ft, 10-second swell.
Now, Tuesday the 21st morning is a sneaky good one. The wind is cross-offshore from the west, light breeze. The combined energy is 734 (still moderate), but that clean wind on a 7ft, 10-second ENE swell is gonna give you some clean, lined-up waves at Isla Uvita. The point will handle that 10-second period well. The afternoon is a quick write-off with a 12 mph onshore wind.
Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd are mostly junk until Thursday afternoon. That’s when the wind drops to glass again, and with a 7ft, 9-second ENE swell and combined energy of 577 (moderate), we get another window of very good surf. After that, the swell slowly fades.
From Friday the 24th through the end of the month, the size drops from 6ft down to 4ft, and the period shortens to 8-9 seconds. The wind is all over the place – cross, cross-on, onshore. The energy levels drop below 500 (weak). There are a few clean moments, like Sunday the 26th morning and Monday the 27th afternoon, with glassy conditions on a small 4ft swell, but it’s nothing to write home about.
Your best bets? Saturday afternoon the 18th and Thursday afternoon the 23rd are the clear winners. Glassy wind, solid 7ft+ swell from the ENE, and the point at Isla Uvita will be dialed in. If you miss those, the Tuesday morning the 21st with its cross-offshore wind is your next best shot.
The first week of August shows a 7ft swell on the 1st, but the wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, keeping things from being truly clean. Long-range, it’s a wait-and-see game on the wind.
Rusty.
