The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the pipe for this stretch.

We’re looking at a solid run of surf at Punta Uva, but you’ve gotta be patient. The first few days are a write-off. Monday the 3rd and Tuesday the 4th are pretty flat and messy – that stormy weather and cross-onshore wind is just ruining it. Not worth paddling out. Wednesday the 5th is still marginal, with a bit of cross-chop making things average.

Then, things start to turn. Thursday morning the 6th is where it gets interesting. The wind goes glassy, and we’ve got a 6 ft swell from the ENE with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy hits 530 (moderate wave energy). That’s going to be clean and fun – a real standout for the early part of the forecast. Friday morning the 7th also looks good with glassy conditions and a 5 ft ENE swell.

Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th are the real highlights. Saturday morning is glassy with 5 ft from the ENE, and Saturday afternoon is also glassy with a 6 ft NE swell, energy jumping to 528 (moderate). But Sunday the 9th is the pick of the whole run. Sunday morning you’ve got a 6 ft ENE groundswell, period of 10 seconds, energy at 711 (moderate to strong), and glassy conditions. That’s going to be well-shaped, clean, and have some punch. Sunday afternoon stays glassy with 6 ft from the ENE. This is the best window.

After that, from Monday the 10th through to Monday the 17th, the surf stays on the table but the wind gets a bit rougher. Most mornings are cross-on with a light breeze, so the quality drops to marginal. The swell size is building though, from 6 ft up to 8 ft by Saturday the 15th. That 8 ft on Saturday morning is pushing into the zone where it’s getting big for beginners, but experienced surfers will find plenty of power. The combined energy that morning is 1110 (strong wave energy), which is the most of the whole forecast.

A real late standout is Monday afternoon the 17th. The wind turns glassy again, and with a 7 ft NE swell and 10-second period, energy at 899 (strong), that’s going to be an excellent, clean session to finish the run.

Water temp is 84°F, which is about 1°F above normal for the time of year, so pretty average – just a touch warm, nothing crazy.

Punta Uva is a reef break, fairly consistent, and it can get crowded sometimes. The optimum swell direction is from the NE, and that’s exactly what we’re getting, so the waves will line up nicely. The 9-10 second period is solid, meaning good shape and energy, with longer lulls between sets making it easier to get out the back.

Overall, the best of the best is Sunday the 9th, with Saturday the 8th and Monday afternoon the 17th as close runners-up. Get on it.

Rusty.
