The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty comin' at ya from the beach. Let's break down what the next couple of weeks are lookin' like for our little slice of paradise.
Right off the bat, we've got a bit of a slow start. The real action doesn't kick off until Wednesday morning the 12th, so the first few days are a write-off for anything decent. We're talkin' about a 16-day window, but the good stuff is pretty spaced out.
So, the standout of the entire run, the one you gotta circle on your calendar, is Friday morning, August 14th. We're lookin' at a solid 3ft swell rollin' in from the southwest, but the real magic is that period – 18 seconds of pure, long-period groundswell. This thing's got some serious push behind it (combined energy of 826). And the wind? Dead flat. Glassy as a mirror. This is a premium session for the advanced crew at Playa Herradura, a reef and point set-up that loves this direction. Just a heads-up, it can be a bit inconsistent here, and the crowds are often around, but for that quality, you deal with it. The water's sittin' at a balmy 86°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so the rubber might be a bit thin.
Then, rollin' into Saturday morning, August 15th, we get another beauty. The swell bumps up to 4ft from the same southwest direction, with a 16-second period. The energy jumps up to 1086, so you can feel the weight of it. Again, we've got glassy conditions. This is another top-tier morning.
Don't sleep on Sunday morning, August 16th either. It's a little smaller at 4ft, but still that lovely 15-second southwest groundswell and glassy winds. The energy is still solid at 694.
After that weekend of glory, things settle back down. We get a few clean mornings with smaller swell, like on the 17th and 18th, but the real power is gone. There's a little spike of 4ft on the afternoon of the 18th, but the period drops to 8 seconds and the wind is messy, so that's a hard pass.
There's a glimmer again on Wednesday morning, August 19th, with another 4ft from the south-southwest and glassy conditions. The period is a middling 10 seconds, but for a mid-week session, it'll be fun.
The final call for a decent dawn patrol comes around Saturday, August 22nd and Sunday, August 23rd mornings, with 3ft and 3ft south swells and clean conditions, but the period is shorter, around 9-10 seconds. It's not the epic groundswell we had, but it's better than a kick in the pants.
To be honest, the long-range outlook into the second week gets a bit slim. The swell energy drops right off, and we're lookin' at tiny, weak waves with inconsistent periods. It might get interesting if a sneaky long-period swell shows up, but as it stands right now, that Friday and Saturday are your golden tickets.
Keep your eyes on the horizon, and I'll catch you in the lineup.
Rusty.
