Alright, grab a coffee, let’s have a look at what’s on offer...
Alright, well, I gotta be straight with you… it’s gonna be a tough couple of weeks around here. We’re looking at Fishermans Reef, and honestly, we’re in for a long, flat spell. This is a spot that *rarely breaks* as it is, being very sheltered, and the outlook is not doing us any favours.
For the next few days, forget it. There’s hardly any swell pushing in, and even when there’s a pulse, the combination of energy is weak – we're seeing values like 263 on the 5th morning, but the waves are messy with a cross-off wind. The period is around 10-11 seconds from the east, but it’s just not delivering anything surfable. It stays poor right through the first week, with onshore winds and rain making things downright ugly. On Tuesday the 7th, the swell does come up a bit, hitting 7ft, but it’s short period (6 seconds), blown out by 30 km/h (19 mph) easterly cross-onshore, and that combined energy of 461 doesn’t mean much when the conditions are that lumpy. That’s not surf, mate.
There’s a flicker of hope very late in the outlook. The very last day, the morning of Monday 20th July, we get a tiny 1.0ft from the east with a period of 13 seconds, and a calm WNW breeze at 5 km/h (3 mph). Combined energy is only 45. It’s glassy and clean, but with water temps about average for the time of year, we’re talking knee-high at best. It’s a rare window of clean conditions at a spot that doesn’t break often, but you’d be surfing for the vibe, not the ride. That’s your one quiet standout in an otherwise quiet outlook.
So, a long blank run… that’s just how it goes here sometimes. The forecast can always change, but for now, don’t expect much.
Rusty.
