The Lowdown
Alright folks, it's Rusty here. Let's be straight with you: the next 16 days are a bit of a tough beat for this region. I've had a good look at the charts, and honestly, the one spot we've got to work with isn't offering much to get excited about.
Overall Pattern
The whole 16-day window is a write-off for any decent surf. We're looking at Fishermans Reef, and it's a consistent story of tiny, weak waves and poor conditions. The biggest issue is that this spot is a "rarely breaks" kind of place, and over the next two weeks, it's living up to that reputation. The swell energy is almost non-existent, with most days seeing a combined energy reading of just 10 to 20, which is about as weak as it gets. You'll be sitting on a flat lake, not a surf break.
The Detailed Breakdown
Starting from Wednesday the 19th, we've got a few days of ridiculously small waves. Wednesday morning shows a 0.7 ft east swell, but with a solid 16 mph south wind making it a cross-offshore mess. The water temp is sitting at 57°, which is about average for this time of year, but you won't feel it because you won't be in the water. Thursday and Friday are similar stories, with tiny 1.0 ft to 1 ft east swells and light winds, but the power just isn't there. The combined energy never gets above 23.
The weekend doesn't get any better. Saturday the 22nd offers a tiny 0.7 ft east swell, and Sunday the 23rd is a joke – a 3 ft northwest swell with a 4-second period, which is basically just wind chop, and a 19 mph WNW wind to mess it up further. The energy jumps to 46, but it's all junk.
There's a gap of a few days of pure flatness from the 24th to the 26th, with nothing but 0.3 ft waves and cross-offshore winds. The combined energy drops to between 6 and 10. It's a total desert.
We get a little spike on the 27th with a 3 ft north swell, but it's got a 5-second period and a strong 16 mph onshore wind from the NE. It's a total mess. The 28th actually sees the biggest swell of the period, 10 ft from the north, and the combined energy jumps to 1220 – that's serious power. But the wind is howling from the NNE at 19 mph, creating fresh cross-onshore, lumpy conditions. For a reef break like this, that's a nightmare. This is strictly for experts, and even then, it's a grim, blown-out session. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
After that, it fades back to tiny, weak, and onshore conditions right through to the end of the forecast on Thursday the 3rd of September. The only minor highlight is the morning of the 29th of August, with a 3 ft NE swell, clean conditions, and a 9 mph W cross-offshore wind. But it's still weak, with a combined energy of only 188.
The Bottom Line
There are no good surf options. Not one. The best day is the 29th of August, with a clean 3 ft NE swell at Fishermans Reef, but it's still small and inconsistent. For a spot that rarely breaks, this is a normal, extended blank run. Don't bother paddling out. The forecasts can change, but this one looks locked in.
Rusty.
