Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fishermans Reef over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
First up, the overall picture. For the first eight days, it's pretty grim. The swell is tiny and the wave comment is consistently 'poor surf conditions', so you might as well leave the boards in the car. We're looking at a rough stretch from July 11th all the way through to the morning of July 18th, where there's nothing worth paddling out for. It’s a bit of a blank run.
Then, things change. We get a proper pulse of energy rolling in. The standout window is from the afternoon of July 19th through the morning of July 24th. That's the time to circle on your calendar. The combined energy ramps up big time, hitting figures like 1355, 1102, and even peaking at 1861, which tells you we've got some strong, powerful swell in the water. The water temp is sitting around 58°, which is about normal for this time of year.
Let's break it down by the day.
July 19th (Sunday) - The action kicks off Sunday morning. Fishermans Reef is seeing a 8 ft swell from the East. The period is 10 seconds, so it's a solid groundswell. Wind is light and cross-offshore, keeping it clean. This is the kind of size that'll be pushing it for beginners; it’s more for those with a few seasons under their belt. Sunday afternoon sees the same size but with a clean moderate offshore wind from the SW.
July 20th (Monday) - Monday keeps the pace. We've got 8 ft swell from the East again, with a similar period. Winds are a fairly solid 25 km/h from the SW, blowing offshore and keeping the faces clean. Combined wave energy stays strong at over 1000. This is proper, grunty stuff.
July 23rd (Thursday) to July 24th (Friday) - This might be the pick of the bunch. Thursday afternoon sees an 8 ft East-North-East swell, with a 12-second period. That's a long-period groundswell, which will mean longer waits between sets but more energy on the face. At a reef break like Fishermans, this is ideal. The combined energy hits 1861, the highest we see. Friday morning is looking like the absolute cream of the crop: 8 ft, 12-second swell from the ENE, and glassy conditions. Zero wind. It doesn't get much better than that.
July 25th (Saturday) - The swell is still solid, around 8 to 8 ft, but conditions start to get a bit more marginal. It's still clean but with a moderate to fresh breeze. This is still good surf, but the earlier days in the week were cleaner.
So, to sum it up: You are waiting until July 19th. For the best quality, aim for Thursday the 23rd afternoon and especially Friday the 24th morning. That glassy morning with a solid, long-period groundswell from the optimum East-North-East direction is a true standout. Given the long range, this is promising but we'll keep an eye on it. Keep it salty.
