Alright, Rusty here again, switching to feet and Fahrenheit for the land of the free and brave. Let’s break down what’s at Fishermans Reef.
This is a real quiet period for a spot that’s already a rarely-breaking, sheltered beginner reef. For the first week and a half, it’s mostly a no-go.
Starting Friday the 3rd, we've got east swell around 4 to 4 feet, period around 10-11 seconds, combined energy weak to moderate. But wind is cross or onshore, so it’s poor.
Saturday the 4th, the onshore NNE wind is blowing 12-15 mph, pushing a messy 4-foot windswell. Choppy.
Sunday the 5th gives us a break. The wind goes light from the NW in the morning, then cross-offshore from the WNW in the afternoon. Swell drops to about 3 feet from the east, 10-11 second period. It’s small and clean, but still considered poor. The afternoon is the best of a bad bunch.
Monday the 6th stays clean with cross-offshore west wind, but the swell is tiny – around 2 feet – and energy is very weak. Nothing doing.
Tuesday the 7th gets ugly again, with NE wind at 15 mph and a short-period 4-foot windswell.
Wednesday the 8th afternoon is the first real chance. A 5-foot east swell at 10 seconds arrives with a light SSE cross-offshore breeze. Combined energy is solid moderate. It’s a 1 out of 10, so just surfable, not great.
From the 9th through the 14th, it’s a flat spell – swell from 0.3 feet up to 2 feet, all with offshore winds but microscopic energy. Clean but flat.
Here’s the big one. Around Thursday the 16th, the size jumps to 10 feet from the east with a 9-second period. Combined energy is very strong (1410 in the morning). Light cross-offshore wind from the west. The morning session gets the highest score of the whole run – a 2 out of 10 – and the notes say “expect good surf conditions.” But at over 8 feet, this is expert-only territory. Friday the 17th pushes even bigger, 11-13 feet, with strong offshore wind up to 22 mph. Energy is massive. Scores drop to marginal due to the extreme size and wind.
The standout is Thursday morning the 16th. That 10-foot east swell with light cross-offshore wind and clean conditions is your only real shot at a proper wave all period. But it’s a long way out and it’s big and mean.
Water temp is about average for the season. No anomaly to speak of.
It’s a rough forecast. A big, expert-only window in the second week is all we’ve got. Rest is flat or blown out. Things can change.
Rusty.
