Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fishermans Reef over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here again. Let's talk about what we're dealin' with. Gotta be honest: this forecast is a bummer. We're lookin' at Fishermans Reef, and there's not a single session that'll get your heart pounding. The whole 16-day run is a long, flat spell with a few little bumps that just aren't worth the paddle.
Water temp is around 59°, which is about normal for now, nothin' special.
Starting out on Wednesday, July 8th, there's a small 3-foot east swell, but the period is a weak 6 seconds. Wind is offshore from the SSW, so it's clean, but the wave energy is weak at 170. The wave comment says "poor surf conditions," and that's the truth. Thursday and Friday just get smaller – down to 2 feet and even 0.3 feet – and the wind goes cross-offshore. Still clean, still weak. Saturday the 11th gives us a glassy moment with a 3-foot east swell, but there's no power. Wave energy is only 132, and it's still "poor surf conditions."
From Sunday the 12th through the middle of the next week, it's a long gap of flatness. Heights under 2 feet for days, periods all over the place, wind turning cross-onshore and onshore, energy dropping into the low double-digits. This is a proper dry spell from around July 12th to July 16th – nothin' worth mentionin'.
On Thursday July 16th, we see a tiny 2-foot east swell with a period of 15 seconds. That's a very long period groundswell, but the size is pathetic. Wind is onshore from the ENE, so the face will be blown out. Wave energy is moderate at 116, but the wave comment is still "poor surf conditions." Not a good look.
Then Friday July 17th and the weekend bring a bump in size – 5 feet to 6 feet from the ENE – but the period drops to a weak 5-6 seconds. This is combined with a fresh to strong onshore or cross-onshore wind. Energy hits 235 by Friday afternoon, which is moderate, but with that messy wind and short period, it's just a lumpy, messy scene. On Saturday the 18th, light rain and onshore wind with 5 feet. This setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The real kicker hits Tuesday July 21st. A 10-foot swell from the ENE with a 10-second period. That's expert territory. The combined energy is a massive 3148, but the wind is a moderate cross-onshore, making it choppy. The wave comment says "poor surf conditions" – so it's big, messy, and dangerous for anyone without serious experience.
We finish out the forecast with smaller, onshore, weak swell through to Thursday July 23rd. Nothin' changes. There are no standouts. No clean morning glass-off that lines up with a decent pulse. This is just a blank run for the area, plain and simple.
Keep your eyes peeled, but don't get your hopes up. Forecasts can shift, but right now, we're lookin' at a tough 16-day stretch.
Rusty.
