Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fishermans Reef over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at the situation.
Honestly, the outlook for Fishermans Reef is a long, flat wait. For the next week and a half, it’s mostly tiny surf and poor conditions. Water temp's about 56°F, which is typical for the season, but that’s about the only thing that's normal. The swell energy is weak, mostly under 100 (42), and the wind isn't doing us any favours, often blowing cross or cross-onshore. A few afternoons like the 14th and 15th are clean with light cross-offshore winds, but the waves are too small to bother with.
The first big pulse arrives on Monday the 21st, but it’s a rough one. On Tuesday the 22nd, the swell really hits, but Monday sees a 10ft to 12ft easterly swell with strong energy (1364 and 2207), but it’s lumpy and blown out with a fresh cross-onshore wind. That is more of a kite-surfing day than a paddling day. That size is also way too big for beginners.
The real window opens Wednesday the 22nd. Tuesday afternoon the 22nd is the standout: a solid 10ft ENE groundswell (period 11 seconds) with clean conditions and a moderate offshore breeze from the SSW. The combined energy is a powerful 2099. This is the best day on offer, but at that size, it's exclusively for experts. Wednesday morning the 23rd has some punch, but the wind is screaming at 22 mph, making it a challenge.
Thursday the 24th is a bit more manageable with a 6ft ENE swell, a nice 13-second period, and offshore winds. Clean and moderately energetic (1069). A good day for more competent surfers. Saturday the 26th afternoon looks almost glassy, with the wind dropping to zero and a 4ft ENE groundswell, but it’s not the highlight.
So, the one to circle on your calendar is Wednesday the 22nd of July afternoon at Fishermans Reef. It’s an infrequent spot that only works when the conditions line up, and that afternoon they do: a powerful 10ft swell from the ENE with clean, offshore winds. If you’ve got the skills, don’t miss it.
That's the word from me.
