Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here—imperial version. Let’s be straight with you—right now, through the whole 16-day window, there’s nothing worth paddling out for at Fishermans Reef. It’s a reef break that’s very sheltered and rarely breaks, so a blank run like this isn’t a shock. The whole forecast is stamped “poor surf conditions” start to finish, with scores that don’t get above zero. The swell energy stays weak to moderate—best value is 443 on the Saturday morning of the 4th, but even that comes with onshore wind and a rating of nil. The water’s sitting at about 59°F, which is normal for the time of year, no notable anomaly.
Let’s walk through it. Friday the 3rd kicks off with 4 ft east swell at 11 seconds, east energy around 277, but a light cross-shore breeze spoils it. Saturday the 4th sees a bump in energy (443 in the morning, 384 afternoon) but the wind turns onshore and choppy. Sunday the 5th drops to 3 ft east swell, cross winds, no improvement. Monday the 6th fades further to 2 ft and 2 ft. Tuesday the 7th is ugly—30 km/h cross-onshore winds, only 3 ft swell, period down to 6 seconds. Wednesday the 8th offers a clean look with offshore wind and 4 ft east swell at 9 seconds (energy 188) but it’s still rated poor. Thursday the 9th stays clean but tiny (3 ft). Friday the 10th is clean offshore but only 2 ft. From the 11th through the 14th, it’s flat to knee-high with glassy mornings on the 13th and 14th but swell below 2 ft—barely a ripple.
Then on Wednesday the 15th, a pulse of short-period swell hits: 6 ft northeast at 6 seconds in the morning (energy 209), building to 7 ft east at 7 seconds in the afternoon (energy 433). But that’s accompanied by strong cross-onshore and onshore winds up to 35 km/h, making it choppy and messy. That much short-period swell with that wind is more kite-surfing territory than paddle surfing. Thursday the 16th goes glassy but only 1 ft, no energy. Friday the 17th has light rain and a cross-onshore breeze, 3 ft east swell at 9 seconds. Saturday the 18th finishes with clean offshore wind and 6 ft east swell at 7 seconds (energy 311) in the afternoon—still rated poor, likely lumpy and short-period.
In short, there’s no standout session here. The best you’d get is a clean but small window on Wednesday the 8th morning or Friday the 10th, but neither breaks the “poor” ceiling. For a spot that rarely breaks anyway, this is a long stretch of nothing.
Stay patient, mate—forecasts can always shift.
