Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Faria over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with ya – this is a tough stretch. The charts are flat and the energy just isn’t lining up. We’re looking at a long, dry run with barely a ripple worth getting excited about.
The only break on the menu is Faria itself – a beach and reef setup that's fairly exposed to the southwest. It’s a beginner-friendly spot, and it can handle a bit of a swell, but that’s not what we’ve got coming. For the first week, from Sunday the 5th of July right through to Saturday the 12th of July, it’s all poor surf conditions. Swell heights are tiny, only 1ft to 2ft, coming mostly from the SSW. The period is long though – between 14 and 18 seconds – so it’s got that groundswell feel, but there’s just not enough size to push through. The combined swell energy is weak to moderate (values between 107 and 417), and the wind is mostly light onshore or cross-onshore, which just kills any chance of a decent wave. The water temp on the Sunday morning was 65°, about a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
Heading into the second week, from Sunday the 13th of July through to Monday the 21st of July, the story doesn’t improve much. Swell heights stay in the 1.0ft to 3ft range, with periods dropping off a bit – some shorter 8 to 9 second stuff mixed in with longer 13 to 21 second pulses from the W and SW. The combined energy stays weak to moderate (115 to 322). Wind is either light onshore or gentle cross-onshore. You’ll see a couple of mornings with a light offshore breeze, but the swell is just too small to make anything of it.
Honestly, there’s no standout session in this whole 16-day window. The best you could hope for is a very marginal look on Thursday morning the 9th of July – the forecast calls it "marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions" with 2ft from the SSW and a light onshore wind. That’s about as close as we get to a wave. But for a beginner-friendly spot, even that is a stretch.
If you’re really desperate, the longer-period swells might push a tiny clean wave through on a point or reef setup, but Faria is a beach and reef mix, and with these tiny heights, it’s going to be hard work. For the beginners this spot is known for, anything over 5ft would be too big, but we never get close to that. It’s a blank run, plain and simple. That’s just how it goes sometimes around here – forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
