The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get real about what's on the table for the next couple of weeks.
Look, I’m gonna level with you straight off the bat. This is a tough stretch for Faria. I’ve been looking at this run, and honestly, the wave heights barely tickle the knee. The first real action you’d even consider paddling for doesn’t show up until Monday the 25th, and even then, it’s a long wait. We’re looking at a gap of over a week from the start where conditions are just poor.
The majority of this outlook is dominated by small, weak swell. The combined wave energy is mostly in the low hundreds, like 180 or 160, which points to moderate, but unfocused energy. However, the weather and wind are the real killers here. For day after day, the wind is either directly onshore from the WSW or cross-onshore, which just chops everything to pieces. The forecasts are consistently calling it "poor surf conditions" – and that’s the plain truth.
Now, if you are a die-hard and just want to sit in the water, the end of the month is where the numbers start to look a bit different. From Saturday the 29th of August through to Monday the 31st, we finally see the swell energy climbing into the strong range, hitting 436 (on the 29th morning). That's a noticeable bump in guts. The swell height is still only around 3 ft, but it's coming from the SSW with a long period of 18 seconds - that’s a proper groundswell. That long period will wrap around the point, and you'll get some better-shaped lines than the short-period dribble we’ve seen, but it will make the wave break a bit more hollow at the beach section.
For the standout window, I’m pointing at Saturday the 30th of August. The morning has a clean 3 ft SSW swell with 16 seconds of period and light SW winds that are forecasted to be offshore. The water is unusually warm for this time of year, sitting at 70°F with a huge anomaly of 7°F above average, so you can leave the 4/3 at home. The crowd factor here is "sometimes," so on a decent Saturday, expect a few others out, but it’s not a zoo. The trade-off is that the break itself is described as "fairly consistent" and is exposed to the SW, which is spot on for this direction. This is the only real window where you get that combination of clean conditions and a touch of size. Sunday the 30th afternoon stays clean with a light cross-onshore.
After that, the swell drops off again into the first days of September. The Tuesday morning (Sep 1st) has light offshore wind again, but the swell is down to 2 ft and the period is dropping. It will be rideable on a longboard, but it’s not the same as the weekend prior.
If you really want a wave, your window is the 29th of August through the 31st. Saturday the 30th is the pick for cleanest conditions.
Stay safe out there.
Rusty.
