The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you, the outlook for Faria is a bit of a tough one. We're looking at a 16-day window that kicks off with a whole lot of nothing, and it takes a while before things get even a little interesting. The water is sitting at 69°F which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, a solid 6°F above the norm.
The first solid stretch, from Friday the 21st of August right through to the end of the month, is a write-off for any decent surf. The swell is tiny, coming in at 1.0ft to 1ft, and the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, just messing up what little is there. The combined wave energy is weak, mostly in the 50 to 146 range, so there's just no power. You'd be better off finding something else to do.
It's not until Wednesday the 26th of August that we see a glimmer. The swell starts to push up a little, with heights around 3ft on Wednesday morning from the S, and the combined energy climbs to 341. The wind goes light and offshore from the SW, so the surface should be clean. The problem is, the forecasts are calling it "marginal" at best, and the period is a short 13 seconds, so the waves won't have much punch. This continues into Thursday the 27th with similar conditions, but the energy drops a bit.
There's then a bit of a lull again before a more interesting event on the 31st of August. A solid 4ft swell from the West pops up on Monday afternoon, but the period is a terrible 5 seconds. That's all wind swell, no power, and combined with the onshore wind, it's still a skip. The energy reading is 257, which is moderate, but it's all froth.
After that, we're back to small, weak, and messy for the first week of September. The swell stays under 2ft, periods are short, and the wind is still a problem. The combined energy dips into the double digits again on the 3rd of September, hitting 99, which is proper weak.
So, the honest truth is, there's nothing to get excited about. No standouts, no great days. It's a long stretch of poor conditions. The only thing I can say is this kind of blank run is normal for the area, so don't be too surprised. Keep an eye on the forecasts, but as it stands, I'd leave the board at home.
Rusty.
