Right then, let's get into it.
Looks like we're in for a tough stretch here at Faria. To be honest, for the next couple of weeks, the surf is pretty much a no-go for anything decent. The water's sitting at a touch warmer than normal for this time of year at 65°, but that's where the good news ends.
Let's start with this coming Saturday, the 4th of July. We've got a tiny 1 ft swell pushing in from the SSW with a period of 14 seconds. Yeah, that's a long period for such a small wave, so the energy's weak, barely registering a 160 on the combined scale. The wind is a cross-on shore from the WSW at 6 mph, and the call is poor surf conditions. Honestly, not worth paddling out for.
Sunday the 5th is more of the same – 1 ft of SSW swell with a long 18-second period. The morning looks clean enough with an onshore wind from the SW at 6 mph, but the wave comment is still "poor surf conditions." The afternoon kicks up a moderate 12 mph cross-onshore, making things choppy. Still a zero.
Monday the 6th through Wednesday the 8th sees the swell bump up slightly to 2 ft, and the energy climbs into the moderate range – hitting a peak of 417 on Wednesday morning. The period drops to 16 seconds, which is still a solid groundswell. The wind is light and onshore or cross-onshore, so it might look pretty, but the wave comment is still "poor surf conditions." That's three days of very small, weak waves. Not your friend.
Thursday the 9th is the only day in this whole run that even gets a "marginal" shout, with a score of 1. The swell is 2 ft from the SSW, 16-second period, and the combined energy is at 299. The wind is light and onshore at 6 mph. It's still tiny, but it's the best of a bad bunch.
From Friday the 10th all the way through to the 19th of July, it's a grim run. The swell hangs around 1.0 ft to 2 ft, almost always from the SSW or swinging around to the W. The period drops from 15 seconds down to 9 seconds on the 14th, which is just a weak, short-period windswell. The combined energy stays weak to moderate, never really breaking 200. Every single entry is marked as "poor surf conditions." The wind is mostly light and onshore, giving a bit of chop and small wind ripples. There is no standout day here.
If you're a paddle surfer, this is a blank run. The setup at Faria is a beach and reef, but with this little energy and a constant cross-onshore wind, it honestly looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing right now. For us wave riders, it's a time to sort the wax collection and watch the forecasts change.
