The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer.
Honestly, Faria, it’s a pretty slow run for the next couple of weeks. We’re looking at a long stretch of small, weak surf and mostly cross-onshore winds that just won’t clean up the face. The swell energy is low to moderate, and the quality just isn’t there for a proper paddle session.
The first recommendation doesn’t come until the 21st of July, and even then it’s a marginal call. Tuesday morning on the 21st, we’ve got a 3ft swell from the SSW, period around 12 seconds. The wind is light and onshore, so it’s not going to be pretty. The energy is moderate (368). It’s a “maybe” kind of day, not a “get the wax out” day.
The next real blip comes on the 24th of July, Friday morning. A tiny 1ft swell from the SSW, but with a very long period of 24 seconds. That’s proper groundswell energy, but it’s so small and the wind is onshore, so it’ll be hard to get a decent ride. The energy is moderate (317). Still marginal.
The standout, if you can call it that, is Saturday the 25th of July. Morning brings a 4ft swell from the S, period 14 seconds, with light onshore wind. The wave energy jumps to 685, which is solid moderate. This is the best looking window in the whole 16 days. The swell is still a bit small for a big thrill, and the wind isn’t offshore, but it’s the closest we’ll get to a decent wave. The afternoon gets a cross-onshore breeze, so get out early.
After that, it’s back to small, weak, and messy. The 27th to the 29th of July have a few mornings with marginal scores, but the swell is under 3ft and the wind is onshore or cross-onshore. The energy stays moderate but never breaks into the strong range.
The last day we see anything is the 1st of August, but it’s a 1ft swell with a 13-second period, and the energy is weak (75). Not worth the paddle.
So, if you’re desperate, Saturday the 25th of July is your best bet. Get out early, manage your expectations, and you might find a couple of fun ones. Otherwise, save your energy for a better forecast window.
Rusty.
