The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what's on offer for the next couple of weeks at Faria. I’ve gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch ahead if you’re looking for quality surf. The whole forecast window is pretty flat and uninspiring.
We’re looking at a long run of small, weak swells, mostly coming from the SSW, with clean conditions but nothing with any push. There’s a complete gap from now until the end of the period with no standout days at all. The first few days up through mid-week next week show swell heights barely scraping 2ft, with combined energy readings struggling into the low 100s and even dipping below 100 (73 on Friday morning the 21st). That’s weak, no two ways about it.
The water at Faria is way warmer than average for this time of year, sitting at 70° – a solid 7° above normal. That’s very unusual, and it’s nice for a paddle, but it doesn’t help the surf.
The wind is mostly light and onshore from the WSW or SW, which keeps the surface clean enough for the tiny waves, but you’re still looking at poor surf conditions across every session. There’s a few afternoons with a slight cross-on breeze, but nothing strong enough to ruin what’s already a very small wave. Even the longest period swells around 16-17 seconds are just too small to do anything with here at a beach and reef setup like this.
The only slight change comes around Tuesday the 25th afternoon, where the swell direction swings more W with a height up to 4ft, but that’s paired with a super short period of only 5 seconds. The combined energy climbs to 230 (moderate energy) but with that period, it’ll be weak and sloppy – honestly, more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
There are consistent light wind mornings all through the first week of September, but still on the same tiny 1ft to 2ft SSW groundswell. It’s a blank run, plain and simple. Faria is just not getting any love from the swell window here. For a spot that’s fairly consistent, this is a rare poor spell. Keep an eye on it, ‘cause it never stays this way for long.
Rusty.
