Table - best surf conditions forecast for Escollera Sur (Mar del Plata) over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for Escollera Sur over the next couple of weeks.
Alright, right off the bat, you can see we’ve got a bit of a flat spell to start. The first real rideable surf pops up on Wednesday morning, July 8th. We’re looking at a small one here – clean little 2ft wave coming out of the SE. The wind is off from the NW, only about 9 mph, so it should be polished up nicely. Water temp’s sittin’ around 50°, and it’s pretty much average for this time of year. The wave energy is weak (107), so it’s not gonna blow your socks off, but for a small mid-winter session, it’s about as good as it gets. The morning is the call here; the afternoon’s a bit smaller and the breeze picks up.
Thursday (July 9th) and Friday (July 10th) are a write-off. The swell bumps up a touch to 4ft on Friday, but the wind swings onshore or cross-onshore, turning it into a choppy mess. Not worth paddling out for. The wave energy jumps to 447, but with that wind, it’s just a bumpy, blown-out wall.
You get a little tease over the weekend of July 11th and 12th. The swell drops right back down, but that’s actually a plus because the wind goes offshore and light. We’re talkin’ 2ft to 3ft waves coming from the ESE, but the period stretches out to 15 seconds. That’s proper groundswell energy (296-326). It’ll be clean and glassy, but tiny. You’ll be fightin’ for scraps on a longboard.
The rest of the first week and into the second is a real struggle. Most days are a mix of tiny swell, wrong wind, or just poor conditions. Wave energy stays low, mostly under 200, and on July 14th it dips to a measly 64. There’s a glimmer Monday morning (July 13th) with a clean 2ft wave and a 12-second period, but again, it’s marginal.
Then things get weird. Around July 19th and into the 20th, we see a big pulse of short-period swell from the south. Sunday afternoon (July 19th) sees a 6ft SSE swell blast through, with the combined energy hitting 373, but the wind is messy and onshore. By Monday (July 20th), we’ve got 7ft lines, but that SSW wind is howling at 22 mph, making it a total washing machine. No good for a paddle – that setup’s lookin’ more fun for the kite crew.
The biggest bang of the whole run hits on Tuesday, July 21st. We’re talkin’ a serious 10ft swell from the SSE with very strong wave energy (1444). But... the wind is cross-onshore from the south at 16 mph. That big, powerful swell will be completely shredded by the wind. It’s gonna be wild and chaotic, only for absolute experts with a death wish and a cheap board. That one’s nearly 2 weeks out, so keep an eye on it, but it’s a long shot for clean conditions.
Wednesday (July 22nd) is still big at 8ft, but the wind is onshore. It's the same story until the end of the run: plenty of swell, but the wind just won’t line up for Escollera Sur.
So, to be straight with ya, there’s no true standout here. The best bet is Wednesday morning, July 8th, for a clean, gentle session on the small stuff. If you’re desperate, the clean, tiny groundswell mornings on July 11th and 12th are your next best call. The big stuff at the end is for looking at, not for paddling into.
Rusty.
