Right, let’s have a look at what’s on the table, surfers.
Honestly, for the next stretch, it’s one of those periods where you’re better off tuning the van stereo and waiting. Over at Encuentro, a solid reef break that’s consistent and exposed, we’ve got a pretty grim run. The water temperature is sitting at 83°, which is bang on average for the time of year.
From July 12th all the way through to the morning of July 26th, the story is the same: cross-shore winds blowing at 12 to 19 mph, mostly from the east, with that lumpy cross-chop. The swell heights hover between 4ft and 5ft, but the period is short, mostly 6 to 8 seconds, and the energy readings – between 94 and 219 – are weak to moderate, so the waves are just messy and weak. There’s no real window of clean surf.
We do get a slight improvement on the afternoon of Sunday the 26th, with the wind going cross-off from the southeast at a lighter 9 mph and the swell from the east at 3ft at 8 seconds. The energy is still moderate though, at 139. The conditions clean up, making for a better-looking session, but it’s still not a standout. The swell’s a bit weak and short-period for Encuentro to really fire.
Frankly, there’s nothing in this whole 16-day window that screams “drop everything and go.” It’s a long, flat spell. Keep an eye on the forecasts, because for Encuentro it tends not to stay this poor for long.
