Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s get real about the surf ahead. I’m looking at the charts and I gotta tell ya, it’s a tough stretch for Donuts. We’ve got a 16-day window here, but honestly, there’s not a single day that’s worth paddling out for. That’s a full blank run, and for this area, that’s pretty normal when conditions line up like this.
The first few days around Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th, the swell is tiny – we’re talking 2ft to 4ft of SW groundswell, with long periods around 18 to 20 seconds. That’s a beautiful period, but the wind is all wrong. It’s either cross-on or onshore, and the water is a touch warmer than normal at 69°, which is nice for a swim, but not for surfing. The combined energy is moderate, sitting between 637 and 768, but it doesn’t matter with that chop.
Moving through the week and into the next, the swell drops even more. From Thursday the 9th all the way through to Tuesday the 21st, we’re stuck with 2ft to 3ft waves from the SW or SSW, with periods dropping from 16 seconds down to 12 seconds. The energy fades from moderate to weak, getting as low as 234. The wind is mostly cross-on or onshore, with a few mornings of light breezes that might look okay, but the wave comment is always “poor surf conditions.” There’s nothing here that’s clean or lined up.
Even the longer period swells – which usually mean better shape – are ruined by the wind direction. For a reef break like Donuts that’s sheltered and prefers a W swell, the SW direction isn’t helping, and the cross-onshore wind is just chopping everything up.
So, bottom line? Don’t bother. It’s a total washout. Keep an eye on the charts though – it tends not to stay this poor for long, and forecasts can change.
