Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for Dongara-Port Denison over the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a solid run of SW groundswell coming through, but the wind’s gonna be the talker – it’s not all clean, so we need to pick our moments.
The first decent call is Saturday morning, July 4th. Water temp is sitting at 67.3°, which is a bit cooler than we’d expect for this time of year – that anomaly of -3.2° means you’ll feel the chill. Swell’s 6.6 ft from the SW, period 17 seconds – that’s a beautiful long-period groundswell, pushing some serious energy (3135). The wind’s NE 15.5 mph, cross-off, so the face should be clean enough. It’s a reef break, fairly consistent, and it’s exposed to the west – this direction is near enough to its optimum. There’s crowds sometimes, so it won’t be deserted, but it’s not a zoo. For experienced surfers, the afternoon cleans up even more with NNE 6.2 mph, 6.9 ft SW, 16-second period (2220). That’s the standout of the first few days – excellent conditions, but it’s solid size, so not one for the beginners.
Sunday July 5th drops off a bit. Swell backs down to 4.3–4.9 ft with onshore and cross-shore winds. It’s not worth rushing for unless you’re desperate for a paddle.
Monday July 6th is back on. Morning glass-off with ENE 6.2 mph offshore – 6.9 ft SW, 16-second swell (2066). That’s clean, punchy, and the reef will love that long period. It’s an excellent option for experienced surfers again. Tuesday July 7th morning is the pick of the early week: 9.8 ft SW at 15 seconds (3511) with SE 6.2 mph cross-off breeze. That’s big, powerful, and clean – only for the skilled crew. Wednesday July 8th holds 5.9 ft SW in the morning with NNE 6.2 mph cross-off.
We hit a rough patch from Thursday July 9th right through to Saturday July 11th. Wind swings onshore or gets strong and cross – not worth your time. Then Sunday July 12th morning brings hope: clear skies, ESE 15.5 mph offshore, 6.2 ft SW, 13-second period (1781). That’s moderate offshore wind, clean waves, and a bit more manageable size.
Now, the real standout of the whole forecast lands Monday July 13th. Morning sees 7.5 ft SW, 16 seconds (4401) with E 15.5 mph offshore – that’s a heavy, clean, grinding swell. The afternoon gets even better: 9.8 ft SW, 17 seconds (4312) with gentle E 9.3 mph offshore. This is premium groundswell – the reef will be running smooth, but it’s only for experts at that size. Best bet of the entire two weeks, right there.
Tuesday July 14th holds 6.6 ft SW in the morning but that NE 18.6 mph cross-off makes it tricky. Afternoon gets lighter wind and cleaner. Wednesday July 15th and Thursday July 16th are smaller – 4.9–5.2 ft – with mixed winds, nothing to write home about.
The end of the window gets chaotic. Friday July 17th is cross-shore and messy. Saturday July 18th is a write-off: 11.5–13.1 ft SW but with strong onshore wind – that’s kite-surf territory, not paddle. Sunday July 19th morning looks fun if you’re game – 11.5 ft SW, 16 seconds (6388) with S 9.3 mph cross-shore, a slight chop but rideable for the experienced. Afternoon cleans up with SE 18.6 mph cross-off, but it’s still big and pushing.
Overall, the standout is Monday July 13th, especially the afternoon session – biggest, cleanest, and best aligned. Tuesday July 7th morning runs a close second for raw power.
