Table - best surf conditions forecast for Dongara-Port Denison over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
The first decent surf on offer is Monday morning, July 13th. We’re looking at a really solid run of groundswell from the SW, but the biggest of it is only for the experienced crew. The best of the whole window looks like Monday morning itself, and then a second standout later on Saturday July 19th morning.
Monday July 13th morning at Dongara-Port Denison is the pick of the early week. A solid 10ft SW swell with a very long 17s period is pumping in, and the combined energy is strong (4993). That’s a whole lot of power. The wind is offshore from the ESE at 12 mph, keeping it clean. This is heavy, powerful surf – strictly for experienced surfers, not for beginners. The water temp is about average for the time of year.
Monday afternoon the swell drops to 8ft but stays clean with a cross-off SE breeze at 9 mph. Still a lot of energy (3761). Still excellent, but the morning window is the real standout.
Tuesday July 14th morning is a bit trickier. The swell is 7ft with a 15s period, but the wind is a cross-off ENE at 16 mph. The combined energy is moderate (2066). Tide conditions might make it a bit marginal. The afternoon cleans up nicely with a light offshore ENE breeze at 6 mph and 7ft swell – that’s a much better session.
Wednesday July 15th sees the swell dropping to 6ft but the morning is blown out by a fresh NNE breeze at 19 mph. The afternoon is light cross-shore wind, but it’s messy.
Thursday July 16th is a write-off. Morning is crossed-up and choppy, and the afternoon turns onshore with a risk of thunderstorms and poor conditions.
Friday July 17th is also poor – onshore wind and rain, no good.
Saturday July 18th is a big day of swell, 12ft, but it’s cross-onshore and choppy. Not the one for paddle surfing.
Sunday July 19th morning is our second standout. The swell is 8ft from the SW with a 15s period, and the combined energy is strong (3199). The wind is a light cross-off from the NE at 6 mph, making it clean. This is excellent surf for experienced surfers again. The crowd situation can be busy sometimes, so get in early.
Monday July 20th onwards is a long stretch of poor conditions with strong onshore winds and rain. The swell is big, but it’s messy and lumpy. This will be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Tuesday July 22nd through to Friday July 24th is all onshore wind and poor surf.
Saturday July 25th morning finally sees a return to clean conditions. The swell is 6ft from the SW with a 14s period, and a light offshore ESE breeze at 6 mph. The combined energy is moderate (1363). Excellent conditions for experienced surfers.
Sunday July 26th is small but clean. The swell drops to 4ft, but the wind is light cross-off. Worth a look if you’ve got a longboard.
Monday July 27th is tiny but clean with a long 18s period. The swell is only 2ft, so not much to ride.
Tuesday July 28th morning sees a solid 10ft swell from the WSW, but a fresh offshore ENE breeze at 19 mph keeps it clean. It’s a long way out, but it could be a good one if the forecast holds.
Rusty.
