Alright, Rusty here, gonna break down what’s on the cards for our little patch. Let’s get straight into it.

The good oil starts rolling in from Monday the 6th of July at Dongara-Port Denison, a reef setup that needs a west swell to light up. The ocean’s been building, and the water’s sitting at a cooler-than-normal 68°F, about 3°F below what we’d expect for this time of year.

Monday morning is where it kicks off proper. We’ve got a solid 7ft southwest groundswell, with a very long 16-second period, and clean easterly offshore winds. The energy is pumping with a reading of 2066. This is quality, bigger-wave territory—over 5ft so it’s not for beginners, but the conditions are set up clean for the experienced crew.

Things hold through the middle of the week. Tuesday morning (7th) sees the swell push to 10ft from the southwest, period still a long 15 seconds, and a clean offshore breeze from the ESE. Energy is strong at 3757. This is proper size—over 8ft—so only for the experts. It’s going to be a standout session if you’ve got the skills. The reef here will handle that long period better than a beach break, keep that in mind.

By Thursday morning (9th), we’re still on a solid 8ft southwest swell with 15-second periods, clean cross-offshore winds from the southeast, and energy at 2276. Another good one for the experienced surfers.

Friday morning (10th) drops down a notch to 5ft from the southwest, period shorter at 13 seconds, and energy down to 803. Still clean with a light cross-offshore breeze. More manageable, but the quality is dialled back.

Saturday morning (11th) gets interesting. Swell drops to just 3ft from the southwest, but the period stretches right out to 17 seconds—very long period groundswell. The wind goes glassy, and the energy reading is 945. That long period will wrap into the reef nicely, but don’t expect much push. It’ll be a long wait between sets.

Saturday afternoon (11th) and Sunday (12th) are the real highlights of this run. Saturday afternoon jumps to 10ft from the southwest, 15-second period, with clean cross-offshore winds, energy at 3783. Then Sunday morning and afternoon absolutely pump: 10ft swell, 16 to 17-second periods, full offshore winds from the ESE, and energy readings hitting 4372 and 4518. This is the peak—big, clean, powerful southwest groundswell with perfect wind. Only for experts, and a true standout.

We’ve got a cleaner but smaller spell from Monday 13th through Tuesday 14th—swells around 6ft to 8ft, solid periods around 16 seconds, and good offshore or cross-offshore winds. Consistent, quality waves for the experienced surfer.

Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th start to deteriorate. Winds shift onshore, and by Thursday afternoon we’ve got rain showers and a fresh 19 mph westerly wind, blowing straight onshore. Swell is still 8ft, but the quality is shot. This setup is more for the kite crew than paddling.

Friday 17th is a write-off. Strong 19 mph cross-onshore winds, rain showers, and 10ft of messy swell. Stay out of the water.

Things clean up by Saturday morning (18th) —a 8ft southwest swell, 15-second period, light cross-offshore breeze, and energy at 2341. Another clean session for the experienced.

Sunday morning (19th) is smaller at 6ft and a shorter 13 seconds, but clean. Nice for a relaxed paddle.

Then, the last big standout is Monday morning (20th) —a 8ft southwest swell, 17-second period, clean cross-offshore winds, and energy at 3639. That’s a top-quality session to wrap up the run, again for the experienced surfer.

The real gems are Tuesday morning (7th), Sunday (12th), and Monday (20th). If you’re keen and experienced, those are your days. The rest of the time, there’s always something on offer, but the wind and size will sort the men from the boys.

Rusty.
