Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here with a long look at the surf ahead. We’ve got one spot on the radar, and it’s a proper reef break that fires on a solid SW groundswell. This is a forecast for the hardcore crew; if you’re a beginner, stay well clear of this.
The water temp is sitting at 67°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you’ll want a good 4/3.
We start off with a bang. On Tuesday morning, the 7th of July, we’ve got a solid 10ft SW groundswell with a very long period of 15 seconds. The wind is a clean offshore from the east at 9 mph. With that combined energy reading of 3757 (moderate wave energy), this is excellent but only for experienced surfers. It’s a big, powerful swell with a lot of water moving, so it’s not for the faint-hearted. Expect that long period to make for some proper, well-shaped lines peeling across the reef. Afternoon sees the wind swing southerly and it gets a bit cross-shore, making things a little messy.
Wednesday morning, the 8th, the swell drops back to 6ft from the southwest, but the period is still a solid 15 seconds. The wind is a cross-off from the north-northeast, keeping the surface clean. It’s a bit of a step down in size, but still a quality wave if you want something a little less intense.
Thursday morning is clean but a bit underwhelming. Friday the 10th of July is where it gets interesting again for the smaller craft. The swell is a playful 5ft from the SW with a 13-second period. The wind is a clean cross-off from the east-southeast at 9 mph. The combined energy is moderate at 723. It’s a good, clean option for a proper session without the heavy crowd pressure, though crowds are possible here.
Saturday the 11th sees a nice little pulse. The morning offers a 4ft SW swell with an offshore east wind at 12 mph. It’s clean and workable. The afternoon holds a better 4ft swell with a longer 14-second period and a clean cross-off breeze.
Now, mark your calendars for Sunday the 12th of July. The morning is a standout. A clean 4ft SW swell with a very long period of 17 seconds and a glassy offshore east-northeast wind at 6 mph. The combined energy is a moderate 1910. This is a dream session with clean conditions and long, wait-for-it sets. This is the one to circle.
Monday the 13th of July turns the volume back up to 11. A massive 10ft SW groundswell with a 17-second period and a clean east wind. The combined energy is a strong 4695. This is expert territory only. If you’ve got the skill and the nerve, this is a proper, heavy day.
Tuesday the 14th of July afternoon is a sneaky good one. A 7ft SW swell with a 15-second period, and the wind goes dead glassy from the west. That’s a rare treat. The wave will be perfect.
The following week is a bit of a mixed bag with plenty of wind and size. A big, lumpy 12ft swell hits on Friday the 17th with onshore winds, making it a washout. The 22nd of July, the last day of the forecast window, brings a return to clean conditions with a 7ft SW swell and a 15-second period with a light offshore east wind. It’s a decent way to end the run.
If I had to pick one true standout from this entire window, it’s Sunday the 12th of July morning. Clean, long-period groundswell, glassy wind, and a reef that will handle that long period perfectly. The other major highlight is the expert-only pulse on the morning of Monday the 13th.
Rusty.
