Table - best surf conditions forecast for Dongara-Port Denison over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here, and we’ve got a decent run of swell coming through Dongara-Port Denison. The water’s sitting at 20°, which is a bit colder than usual for this time of year, so a steamer might be the go.
The first solid window kicks off Monday afternoon, the 13th of July. That’s an 8ft SW groundswell, with a very long 16-second period, and the wind is a light cross-off shore. The swell energy is strong (3761), and it’s clean, but at that size, it’s only for experienced surfers. This is the standout of the first week—big, powerful, and well-shaped for a reef.
Tuesday the 14th has a cleaner window in the afternoon with a 7ft SW swell, 15-second period, and light offshore winds from the ENE. It’s a bit smaller than Monday, but still a solid option for experienced crew. The morning is a write-off with stronger wind.
Wednesday the 15th is messy. The morning has a fresh cross-off breeze, but by the afternoon the wind swings cross-on and the quality drops. Not worth paddling out.
Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th are poor. The swell is there, but the wind is onshore or cross-on, making it choppy and lumpy. Best to sit these out.
Then we get a real cracker on Saturday the 18th. The swell is pumping at 12ft from the SW, with a 17-second period in the afternoon, and the combined energy is massive (7246). The wind is a gentle cross-shore, so it’s clean. This is a big one—only for experts, and it’s the best on offer in the whole outlook. Sunday the 19th morning is also good, with an 8ft SW swell and offshore winds, but it’s a step down from Saturday.
The middle of the week starting Monday the 20th turns ugly again, with strong onshore winds and lumpy conditions. The 21st and 22nd clean up nicely with excellent conditions and cross-off breezes, but the swell is around 8–10ft, so still for experienced surfers.
The real hidden gem comes at the tail end. On the 27th of July, Monday morning and afternoon, we’ve got glassy conditions with a 6 to 6ft SW groundswell, very long period at 16 seconds, and the combined energy is moderate (1787–1592). The wind is dead flat—glassy, mate. This is a standout for the second week, clean and lined up, though at that size and period, it’ll be a bit more mellow than the earlier bomb.
There’s a gap from the 28th with onshore winds and poor conditions, so the last real window is the 27th. Overall, the best wave of the lot is Saturday the 18th, but the glassy session on the 27th is a close second.
Rusty, signing off.
