The Lowdown

G’day, Rusty here.

Straight up, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim for a proper surf. The ocean’s gonna be small and messy for a good stretch, so don’t get your hopes up. We’ve got a long, flat spell ahead.

Looking at the whole window, there’s just no decent swell on the cards. The first week is a total write-off. We're talking ankle-biters and chopped-up slop. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, which is just going to ruin what little wave energy there is. It’s not even worth paddling out until the 17th, so that’s about a 10-day dry spell from where we stand now.

Even when the swell tries to show up around Monday the 17th, it’s still poor. We might see the surf push to a meagre 4ft with some rain and a fresh onshore breeze, which will just make it a lumpy, closed-out mess. It’s a beach break here at La Cote Sauvage - Le 43, and with that onshore wind, it’s going to be all chop and no shape. If you’re into kitesurfing, this might look more interesting, but for a paddle surfer, it’s a hard pass.

The swell energy is weak to moderate this whole time, with even the biggest pulse on the 22nd only hitting 413 on the combined energy scale, but that comes with a strong breeze and onshore wind, so the quality will be terrible.

The only slight glimmer is on the morning of Sunday the 10th. It’s tiny, only 1ft, but the wind is glassy. But with a period of just 7 seconds and almost no energy, there’s nothing to ride. Water temp is 72°, which is about normal for this time of year, but it won’t matter if you’re just bobbing around.

Honestly, for the second week, it’s the same story – small, weak, and mostly blown out. The 22nd might have a touch more size, but the strong onshore wind will kill it. There’s nothing here that’s worth getting excited about.

Stay patient, this one’s a dud.

Rusty.
