The Lowdown

Alright, let me have a look at what we’ve got here for the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, I’m gonna be straight with you—this is a tough one. The whole 16-day window is looking pretty flat and messy for Le Sail Fish. There’s no real surf to get excited about at all. Not a single standout day where you’d wanna paddle out. The combined swell energy is weak right through, with values mostly between 10 and 100 (59 to 101), barely ever hitting the moderate zone. The highest we see is 270, but that’s paired with strong, choppy cross-shore winds that ruin it.

The first few days, from Monday 3rd August right through to Saturday 8th, it’s all poor surf conditions with tiny 1ft to 3ft swells coming from the west or northwest, periods mostly under 10 seconds. The wind is cross-onshore nearly the whole time, so it’s just choppy and bumpy. Not worth a look.

Then we get a little bump on Thursday 6th August morning—a 4ft swell from the northwest with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy hits 218. That’s the most interesting pulse in the whole run, but the wind is cross-shore at 9 mph, creating a slight cross-chop, and the score says it’s marginal. It’s the closest we get to something rideable, but it’s not clean.

The water temperature is sitting at 75°F, which is about 4°F above the long-term average for this time of year. That’s notably warmer than usual—pretty unusual for August.

After that, from Friday 7th onward, it’s back to tiny, weak swells, mostly 2ft to 3ft, and the wind stays onshore or cross-onshore, keeping things messy. By the second week, from 12th August onwards, the swell drops even further, with combined energy falling below 100 and often below 50. The last few days, 17th and 18th August, are barely even registering—0.3ft to 1.0ft swells. That’s a dead flat spell.

The only real highlight is a brief moment on Saturday 15th August morning, where the wind goes glassy—0 mph from the north-northwest. But the swell is only 3ft from the north-northwest with a period of 6 seconds, and the combined energy is just 56. It’s clean, but there’s nothing to ride.

So, no good surf here. If you’re into kite surfing, the moderate cross-onshore days with a bit more wind and a 3ft+ chop might be more interesting, but for paddle surfing, this is a blank run. It’s one of those periods where the region just goes quiet. Forecasts can change, but right now, there’s nothing calling me out.

Stay patient,
Rusty
