Table - best surf conditions forecast for Castelejo over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a slow cooker of a forecast, so don’t expect any instant gratification.
The overall pattern is pretty flat to start, with a real dry spell. We’re looking at a long gap from today until the first real opportunity. Honestly, for the first several days, the surf is just a no-go.
The first proper window to wet a line opens up on Sunday morning, 12 July. That’s our standout for the entire period. Head to Castelejo. It’s a beach and reef setup, and it’s very consistent, so it’s always a reliable bet. The swell is a small 4 ft from the WNW, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is moderate (211). The wind is glassy, coming from the SSE at just 3 mph. That’s a major positive—it’s going to be clean as a whistle. The water temp is 69°, which is about average for the time of year. This is the best on offer, and it’s a solid call for a Sunday morning session.
After that, we hit another rough patch. The wind is onshore or cross-onshore and lumpy through the week, with a few small waves around but nothing you’d want to paddle out for. The swell builds again towards the end of the following week, but it’s messy and windy.
Now, looking further ahead, there’s a promising but less certain window. On Tuesday afternoon, 21 July, the wind goes glassy again with a S wind at 3 mph. The swell is 5 ft from the NW with a 9-second period, and the combined energy is moderate (330). It’s worth penciling in, but it’s a long way out.
The swell bumps up a bit more around 20 July with heights around 6 ft to 7 ft from the NW, but the wind is cross-onshore or strong onshore, keeping it lumpy. The combined energy gets strong (794), but the wind kills it. For a beach and reef setup, that’s more of a kite-surfing scenario than a paddler’s dream.
So, to wrap it up: Sunday morning is your best bet. The rest is a waiting game, but the second week has a couple of possibilities if the forecasts hold.
Rusty.
