Table - best surf conditions forecast for Castelejo over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
Right off the bat, I’m gonna be straight with you – the next week and a half is a write-off for Castelejo. We’ve got a solid 12-day stretch of nothing but onshore slop, messy wind, and tiny or weak swell. It’s a real bummer. The water temperature is sitting at 69°, which is basically average for this time of year, so that’s not the issue – it’s the wind and the lack of clean, organised swell.
The only real glimmer of hope comes much later, right at the tail end of the 16-day window. Keep your eyes on Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd of July.
On Wednesday morning, we finally see a shift. The wind swings offshore from the ESE at 6 mph, and the swell is a solid 4 ft from the NNW. That’s a proper groundswell with a 8-second period, enough to get some decent lines at Castelejo. The energy is moderate (274), and the conditions are clean. That afternoon it stays clean with a cross-off wind, same size swell. This is where it gets interesting.
Thursday the 23rd of July is the standout. Morning glass-off conditions with a light ESE wind, and the swell bumps up to 6 ft from the NNW. The energy jumps to 785 – that’s a noticeable bump in power. The wave comment says “very good surf conditions,” and with that offshore wind, it’s going to be clean and punchy. This is your best bet for the whole outlook. The afternoon stays good with a smaller 5 ft and light cross-off breeze.
Friday the 24th morning is also a winner – glassy conditions with a 6 ft NNW swell and 348 energy. But the wind shifts onshore by the afternoon, so get out early.
After that, it’s back to the same old story on Saturday the 25th with onshore winds and messy surf. The long-range swell on the 25th afternoon has a huge energy reading (1007) but it’s paired with a stiff 22 mph onshore wind, so it’s a no-go for surfing – that’s kite territory.
So, to sum it up: you’ve got a long wait, but Wednesday the 22nd through Friday the 24th of July mornings offer some proper, clean waves. The best of the lot is Thursday morning. Don’t sleep on it.
Rusty.
