Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let me take you through what’s cookin’ for Castelejo over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with ya—this is a tough stretch. The forecast is lean for a long while, so we’re looking at a big gap before anything remotely worth paddling out for shows up.
We kick things off on Saturday afternoon, July 4th. Castelejo is a beach and reef setup that’s very consistent, exposed to the NW. The water’s sittin’ at 67°F, which is about normal for this time of year. That first session gives us a tiny 2ft swell from the NNW, period of 9 seconds, but the wind is glassy—dead calm. The combined energy is weak at 137. It’s surfable, but honestly, it’s just very ordinary. Not somethin’ to get excited about.
Then we hit a real dry spell. From Sunday, July 5th, right through to Friday, July 10th, it’s all poor surf conditions. Wind’s either cross-on or onshore, swell is tiny, and the period is short and weak. There’s nothing here for a surfer. This gap runs for the better part of a week with no solid recommendation.
Things start to perk up a bit on Friday, July 10th, but don’t get your hopes up. We see a bit more size—4ft from the NW—and the combined energy climbs to 127 (moderate), but the period is a weak 6 seconds and the wind is onshore at 12–15 mph. It’s still rated as poor conditions. The same story carries through Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th, though Sunday afternoon bumps the energy up to 253 with a 4ft NW swell at 9 seconds. But again, that onshore wind spoils it.
Now, here’s the one that might get your attention if you’re patient. Over a week away, on Saturday, July 18th, the afternoon session looks like a stand-out. We’ve got a clean 3ft swell from the NW, 8-second period, combined energy of 167, and the wind is a light cross-onshore with just small ripples. It’s not perfect, but after all this chop and junk, that glassy-ish window is the best we’ve seen. Castelejo should have some fun little waves. The consistency holds, so there’s plenty of chances to snag a set.
The final days, Sunday, July 19th, bring the biggest swell of the whole forecast—5ft to 6ft from the NW, with energy jumping to 300 and 379. But the wind is crankin’ at 18–25 mph from the NNW, strong cross-onshore and messy. That size with that wind? This beach and reef setup is gonna look more like a kite-surfing zone than a paddle-surfing spot. Not one for us.
So, bottom line: there’s a long, barren gap early on. If you’ve got the patience, the afternoon of Saturday, July 18th is your best shot—small but clean. Everything else is wind-affected or just too weak. Hang tight, and keep an eye on the charts.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
