Table - best surf conditions forecast for Castelejo over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the charts for Castelejo.
To be straight with you, the next 16 days are a real struggle. There’s no good surf on the cards. The first few days are small and weak, and then when the swell does build, the wind absolutely ruins it, smashing the place with strong cross-onshore and onshore breezes, turning the ocean into a lumpy, choppy mess. There’s a long stretch of nothing worthwhile from the 12th of July all the way through.
We start Sunday the 12th with a small 4ft swell from the WNW, but the cross wind makes it marginal. The energy’s low at 209 (moderate), and the water’s sitting at 68°F, which is about average for this time of year, no real anomaly.
Monday the 13th is worse – the swell drops to 2ft, and the wind is onshore. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, all the same story: small, weak, and windblown. The energy values are in the double digits, barely registering.
By the end of the first week, into Friday the 17th, the swell starts to push up to 5ft to 5ft, but so does the wind – 18-22 mph from the NNW, all cross-onshore. The energy jumps up to 164 (moderate), but it’s ugly. Saturday the 18th sees the swell hit 5ft to 6ft, energy up to 236-333 (moderate), but again, nasty cross-onshore wind.
The second week is more of the same, just bigger and messier. Sunday the 19th has 6ft to 7ft swell with a strong 25 mph cross-onshore wind – that’s a total write-off. The energy is pushing 430-605 (strong), but it’s just a washing machine. Monday the 20th through to Wednesday the 22nd, the swell stays between 5ft and 7ft, with the wind howling and the surface lumpy.
Late in the window, around Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th, the swell gets solid at 7ft to 7ft, with a period of 10 seconds, and the energy is really strong – 855 on Friday morning. The wind is onshore though, and the forecast still says poor conditions. A 10-second period is decent, a groundswell, but at a beach and reef break like Castelejo, with onshore wind, it’s not going to line up.
Honestly, there isn’t a single standout in this entire 16-day run. If you’re a kite surfer, that strong cross-onshore wind and solid swell from the 18th to the 25th might look interesting, but for paddle surfing, it’s a hard pass. The forecast can change, but for now, this patch is a write-off.
Rusty.
