Alright, I’m callin’ it as I see it, and what I see is a long, tough stretch. The 16-day outlook starts now, and up until Sunday the 12th of July, there’s basically zero worth paddling out for. Small, weak, and all blown out by onshore or cross-onshore winds. From the 6th to the 12th, that’s almost a full week of flat to knee-high junk.
The only thing that even looks like a wave shows up on Sunday the 12th of July morning. That’s at Castelejo (beach and reef). This spot is very consistent and open to NW swell, but it’s a tough spot. We’re looking at a 4-foot NW swell (that’s 1.2m) with a 8-second period. The combined energy is moderate at 234. Winds will be light cross-onshore from the west at about 6 mph (10 km/h), so the surface will be a bit crinkly but not totally blown out. It’s barely enough for a marginal session.
This 4-foot swell is small enough for beginners if the tide cooperates, but the short 8-second period means the waves won’t have any punch, and they’ll just close out. This isn’t a groundswell – it’s windswell. The afternoon of the 12th gets choppy and messy again.
After that, the rest of the forecast is poor. Onshore winds hammer the waves, and the energy drops off a cliff. By Wednesday the 15th of July, the combined energy is only 101 – that’s barely a ripple. There is one slot on the 14th with an 11-second period, but it’s buried under 15 mph onshore winds (25 km/h), making it a total whiteout.
So, here’s the bottom line: Sunday the 12th morning is your only hope. Bring a longboard or a soft-top, find a mushy shoulder, and don’t expect much. For the rest of the run, the wind is too strong and the swell too small. Honestly, this stretch looks better for kite surfing when the wind really gets going.
No standout quality here. A long blank stretch like this is pretty normal for this region when the swell and wind don’t play nice.
