Table - best surf conditions forecast for Castelejo over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it. First up, our only real option on the table is Castelejo, a beach and reef setup that’s exposed to the NW. It’s a very consistent break, but the next week and a half is a real battle with the wind.
We’ve got a big gap of nothing worthwhile until Sunday the 23rd of August. The wind is just too strong and onshore, making a mess of things. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, no big anomaly to report.
Sunday morning the 23rd of August is the standout. Castelejo gets a clean 5ft swell from the WNW with a period of 12 seconds, which is a nice long-period groundswell. The wind is a light cross-offshore from the SSE, and the energy is strong at 665. It’s a bit of a longer period, so it might wall up a bit on the beach section, but it'll be cleaner than anything else we’ve seen. The combined swell energy is strong (665). This is the best on offer, but it’s a one-hit wonder. The Sunday afternoon still looks clean but the wind picks up a bit, and the tide might be a factor.
Monday the 24th of August is messy with a cross-shore wind and a short, choppy 6ft swell. Not great.
Tuesday the 25th of August morning is a weird one – glassy conditions with a tiny 3ft swell from the W and a short period of 7 seconds. The energy is weak (150). It’s surfable if you’re desperate, but it’s just ordinary.
From there, the wind just keeps blowing onshore or cross-onshore, and the swell is either too small or too messy. We get a bit of a clean spell on the 26th of August morning with a tiny 2ft swell and a light cross-offshore wind, but the energy is very weak (74). Not worth the paddle.
The whole second week into the start of September is a write-off. The wind is relentless from the North and NNW, gusting 18-25 mph, and the surf is mostly poor, lumpy, and choppy. There’s a couple of pulses of 5ft to 7ft swell, but with that onshore wind, it’s a kitesurfing show, not a paddling one. The combined energy gets up to 927 at one point, but it’s all blown out.
So, to be honest, the only real window is Sunday morning the 23rd of August. Get it while you can. After that, the forecast looks stubbornly poor for a long stretch. It’s one of those blank runs the area can get, but forecasts can always change.
Rusty.
