Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – the outlook for the next couple of weeks is a tough one. We’re looking at a long stretch of small, messy, onshore slop with barely a break in the clouds. There are no standout sessions on offer, and honestly, the first real chance of anything decent doesn’t even show up until Sunday, July 19. That’s a solid two-week gap of underwhelming conditions to get through.
For Castelejo, the pattern is pretty grim from Monday the 6th right through. Swell is tiny – mostly under 3 ft – and coming from the NW or NNW, which is fine direction-wise, but the wind is an absolute killer. It’s either cross-on or onshore from the NNW to NW for days on end, blowing at 12-19 mph, keeping the surface chopped up and bumpy. Combined swell energy remains weak, barely cracking the double digits, so there’s just no power behind it. We do see a little bump in energy on the 12th and 13th, with some 3 ft at 10 seconds and energy reaching around 150, but the winds stay onshore or cross, so it’s still poor. The water temp sits at a warm 69°F, which is spot on for this time of year – no surprises there.
Now, for anyone willing to wait, there’s a glimmer around Sunday, July 19. We get a slug of longer-period groundswell arriving from the WNW, with swell size bumping to 3-4 ft and a solid 11-12 second period. The combined energy jumps significantly, to 411 on Sunday morning – a real jump in power. Winds are forecast light from the NW, which could be offshore or glassy for Castelejo, making for clean conditions. It’s the only real window in the whole period where it might be worth paddling out. But keep in mind, this is a long-range call, so treat it as promising but not locked in.
Other than that, you’re looking at 1 ft to 3 ft dribble with constant wind. Honestly, with the persistent onshore flow and lack of quality, if you’re into kite surfing, this might actually be more your scene than paddle surfing. The combo of side-wind and small waves is better for getting the kite out than trying to catch a decent wave.
So, bottom line: hold tight, clean your wax off, and maybe circle Sunday, July 19 on the calendar. That’s your one shot.
Rusty.
