Right, grab a coffee, let's see what's brewing around Castelejo. It's a beach and reef setup here, real consistent spot, exposed to the NW. Honestly, for the next couple of weeks, it's looking like a bit of a patience game. The water's sitting at 68°F, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first half of the outlook is a tough read. From Tuesday the 7th right through to Monday the 20th of July, there's hardly a whisper of decent surf. We're looking at a long, dry spell with nothing but wind-battered, messy conditions. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, blowing between 12 and 22 mph, just ruining any chance of a clean face. Swell heights are tiny, mostly below 3ft, and the wave energy is weak, sitting below 100 (e.g., 35 to 84). It's just poor surf, day after day. You'd be better off checking the kiteboarders, honestly.
Around Sunday the 12th there's a brief flicker of moderate energy (181), but it's still straight onshore wind, so don't get your hopes up.
Now, we finally get a glimmer of something on Monday the 20th of July. The morning waves are starting to show a bit of life at 4ft from the NNW, with a gentle breeze keeping it onshore but lighter. The energy is picking up into the low triple digits (104). By the afternoon, we’re seeing 5ft from the NW, but that's a moderate breeze onshore, making it messy.
The real standout, if it firms up, is looking like Wednesday the 22nd of July. This is the one to circle. We’ve got a 6ft swell from the NNW in the morning with barely a breath of wind from the WSW at just 3 mph. It’s a light cross-onshore breeze, really just a slight air, and the energy is strong at 406. Then the afternoon kicks in with a 7ft NNW groundswell and a light cross-offshore breeze from the SSW at 9 mph. The forecast is calling it clean with a massive 587 energy. That’s proper juice. For a spot like Castelejo, a long period groundswell from the NNW is going to wrap in nicely, offering some real shape. Just be aware, at 7ft, that's expert territory and crowds are possible here. This is the best on offer, but it's over a week away, so keep an eye on it.
For the rest of the second week, it's more of the same old story: onshore winds and mixed up, poor conditions dominate until that late blip.
