The Lowdown
Alright, let’s break it down in feet and knots. This is Rusty, and I’m looking at Carne Beach.
Frankly, it’s a rough forecast. We’re staring down a long stretch of tiny, weak swell and mostly poor conditions. There’s a big gap of useless days here, so don’t hold your breath.
The first potential window is Monday, August 4th. The morning is glassy with a 1ft swell from the SW, but it’s still poor. Water temp is 16°C, about normal for the season.
The whole week is flat. From the 4th through the 10th, the swell barely gets above 2ft, and the wind is unreliable. The strongest wind is on the afternoon of the 4th, with a fresh cross-shore at 19 mph, but the swell is only 4ft and messy, with weak energy (108). Not worth the trip.
The only real standout is Friday, August 14th. The afternoon brings a pulse of 5ft swell from the SW, with an 8-second period. The combined energy jumps to 289 (moderate), and the wind goes cross-off, leaving the surf clean. That’s your best shot. The direction is SW, not the ideal S for this spot, but the size is there. It’s a solid intermediate wave. Carne Beach rarely breaks, so a day like this is a rare event.
The morning of Sunday, August 16th is also worth a look: 3ft from the SW with a gentle offshore, giving clean conditions. The energy is lower (92), so it’s a backup option.
Before that, the 10th of August has a morning with 2ft from the NE and a 4-second period – that’s just wind slop, not a real swell.
So, the 14th of August is the one to circle on the calendar. It’s a long way out, so keep checking, but for now, that’s your best and only real chance. Everything else is a washout.
Rusty.
