Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at the next couple of weeks for Cap Frehel. I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough one to write. We've got a full 16-day window, and I'm looking at a lot of flat, weak, and frankly pretty disappointing conditions. The break here is a reef setup, exposed to the west, but the swell just isn't cooperating.
For the first full week, from Saturday the 4th right through to the following Sunday the 12th, it's a grim run. Wave heights are barely ticking over, mostly hovering between 1.0 ft and 2 ft, and the energy in the water is next to nothing. We're talking combined swell energy of just 60 (weak) at best on Saturday morning, dropping to a pathetic 13 (weak) by Tuesday the 7th. To make matters worse, the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore from the north or northwest, turning what little bump there is into a complete mess. The water temp is sitting at 65°F, which is a massive 4°F warmer than usual, a real anomaly for this time of year. But with those tiny, wind-chopped waves, you won't be in the water long enough to notice.
There is a real oddity on Friday the 10th. The afternoon goes glassy with a tiny 3 ft swell from the NNE, but the period is a pathetic 4 seconds. That's straight-up wind swell with no push. Combined energy is only 35 (weak). It's a "poor surf conditions" call from the data, and I have to agree. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing right now.
The second week doesn't get any better. From Monday the 13th through to Sunday the 19th, it's more of the same story. Swell stays below 3 ft, mostly in the 1.0 ft to 2 ft range. The energy nudges up to 70 (weak) on the 12th, but its a messy 3 ft with a short 7-second period and onshore wind. The onshore wind persists, and for the few moments it goes glassy on the 19th, the swell is a tiny 2 ft with a 4-second period from the north.
Honestly, I can't fish out a true standout recommendation here. There isn't one. The only thing remotely close to a window is the brief glass-off on Friday afternoon the 10th and again on Sunday afternoon the 19th, but with such minimal, weak swell, it's barely a ripple. The combined energy never cracks three digits.
It's a blank run, and for this area, it's not entirely abnormal to have such a poor run of tiny, onshore wind swell. Forecasts can change, but for now, there is no surf on offer worth paddling out for. Keep your gear in the shed and wait for a proper west groundswell.
Rusty.
