Calita Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the next 16 days at Calita are a bit of a flat spell. The first recommendation doesn’t kick in until the 4th of August, and from there, it’s a long stretch of small, messy waves. The water’s a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 76°, which is pretty nice.

Starting off Tuesday the 4th of August, we’ve got a tiny 1.0ft swell from the WNW, but the 12 mph WNW cross-breeze is making a mess of it. The combined swell energy is weak (32), and the wave comment says it all – poor surf. This pattern just keeps rolling through the 5th, 6th, and into the 7th: small swells, all under 3ft, with cross or onshore winds. The 8th of August Saturday morning has a light 1.0ft swell, but it’s blown out by a cross-onshore breeze.

There’s a glimmer of hope on Monday the 10th of August. The morning session is clean, with a light 6 mph cross-offshore breeze from the NNW, and a 2ft swell from the WNW. The combined energy is still weak (23), but for a small-wave board, it could be a fun, clean little session without any crowds. Tuesday the 11th of August morning is glassy with a 2ft swell, but the swell period is short (5 seconds), so it’s not going to have much push.

The surf picks up a tiny bit around the 14th and 15th of August. On Saturday the 15th of August morning, we’ve got a 4ft swell from the W, with a 6-second period and a combined energy of 91. That’s the biggest swell of the whole period, but it’s still weak-to-moderate energy. The morning wind is a cross-onshore (9 mph from the WNW), which will keep it a bit bumpy. This is a beach and reef setup, and with the swell direction coming from the W, not the optimum WSW, it’s not going to line up perfectly. The 15th afternoon shows a 3ft swell with a combined energy of 114 (moderate), but it’s onshore wind, so it’s really only worth a look if you’re desperate for a paddle.

Honestly, the best window is the morning of the 10th of August, with clean conditions and a 2ft swell. It’s not a standout, but it’s the only time the wind is favourable. The rest of the forecast is tiny, choppy, or flat. From the 16th onward, it drops back to 2ft and smaller, with a mix of cross and offshore winds, but the swell is just too weak to get excited about. There’s a gap of no real surf from the 17th to the 19th, with swell dropping to 1.0ft and combined energy as low as 2.

If you’re a kite surfer, the 15th of August afternoon with a 3ft swell and 12 mph onshore wind might be more interesting for a session, but for paddle surfing, it’s a waiting game. Forecasts can change, but as it stands, Calita is a no-go for most of the 16 days.
