Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Bunbury Ammos. I gotta be straight with you—this stretch of river mouth is gonna be a tough one for the next week and a half. The first week is pretty much a write-off, but if you’ve got patience, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, especially around the second Thursday and Friday.

Right now, it’s all about the wait. The swell is already pumping, but the wind is just ruining it. Starting Thursday, August 6th, we’ve got a solid 8ft W swell, but it’s coming in with a strong 16 mph cross-on breeze. It’s a messy, choppy scene. The water temp is 62°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so grab a good wetsuit. The combined energy is moderate but messy (3262), and the short-term forecast is a no-go. This pattern sticks around through the weekend. Friday, August 7th, is more of the same—on-shore winds and poor conditions.

Saturday, August 8th, the swell jumps to 13ft, but it’s a beast with a 22 mph cross-on wind. That’s expert-only territory, and even then, it’s blown out. The combined energy is strong (6312), but it’s not surfable. Sunday, August 9th, the wind backs off a bit, but it’s still on-shore, and the surf is marginal. The entire first week is a bust.

Now, Monday, August 10th, is actually a danger zone. That 13ft swell hangs around, but the wind cranks up to 31 mph or more. That’s kite-surfing territory, not paddle surfing. The energy is pumping (3408), but it’s just not for us.

We finally get a break on Thursday, August 13th. This is the standout. The swell drops to a manageable 6ft, but the magic is the wind. Glassy conditions in the morning. The swell is a long-period 16-second groundswell from the WSW, and combined energy is still strong (1964). This is prime for the river mouth—long, clean lines. It’s gonna be a bit big for a beginner, but for experienced surfers, this is gold. The afternoon gets a little cross-on, but the morning window is the best on offer.

Friday, August 14th, is another cracker. The swell is 6ft from the WSW, and the wind switches to a light offshore from the ENE. That’s clean, clean surf. The period is still 16 seconds, so the waves will have real push. The break is *inconsistent*, so you might have to wait for the sets, but when they come, they’ll be worth it. This spot is fairly exposed, so it catches the energy well. The crowds are a *sometimes* thing here, so you might have it mostly to yourself.

The following week, into August 19th and 20th, the swell stays solid (10ft to 12ft), but the wind is a mixed bag. The best of that late run is Wednesday, August 19th, with an 12ft W swell and very light winds. That’s big, gnarly, and only for experts. The combined energy is very strong (7065), so it’s a raw, powerful ocean. The glassy conditions in the morning could make it a special session for the brave.

So, to sum it up: the first week is a write-off. The best bet is the morning of Thursday, August 13th, and Friday, August 14th for clean, manageable waves. Beyond that, August 19th is for the big-wave chargers. Don’t get your hopes up for the first few days—just wait for that glassy window mid-month.
