Updates in  hr  min  s Forecast update imminent

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s shaping up for Peppermint Grove Reef. It’s a beginner-friendly reef break, fairly consistent, and it likes swell from the west. The water is sitting at 61°, which is a whopping 5° colder than usual for this time of year—that’s not just a little chilly, that’s a proper teeth-chattering, hood-and-gloves kind of cold. Grab the thick rubber.

We’ve got a bit of a slow start. Friday the 3rd is a write-off: small 4ft WSW swell, a cross wind, and the energy is only moderate (605). Not worth paddling out for.

Saturday the 4th looks pretty average too. You’ve got 4ft to 4ft of swell, but a strong 12 mph NNE cross wind messes it up, and the wave energy stays moderate (879). Leave it be.

Sunday the 5th is a split day. The morning is a no-go: 6ft of short-period, onshore junk with 19 mph winds. The afternoon, though, shapes up nicely. It drops to 3ft, but the wind swings light and cross-off, and the swell period jumps to a long 16 seconds. The energy is still moderate (702), but conditions are clean. If you’re a beginner wanting a longboard session, that’s your window.

Now, Monday the 6th is where things get serious. The swell builds to 7ft in the morning and 8ft in the afternoon, both from the west with a 15 to 16-second period. That’s proper groundswell energy—the combined energy hits 2352 in the morning and 2685 in the afternoon. The wind goes offshore, light to gentle. This is excellent surf, but at 8ft it’s for experienced surfers only. The deep water reef will handle that long period nicely, giving good shape. This is the standout of the whole outlook.

Tuesday the 7th keeps the run going. Morning has 7ft of west swell, 16 seconds, clean with a light offshore breeze. Energy is strong at 2011. Still for the experienced crew. The afternoon drops to 6ft and goes cross-shore, but it’s still rideable.

Wednesday the 8th sees the swell easing. Morning is 5ft, cross-shore, but the afternoon turns glassy with 6ft of west swell at 15 seconds. That’s a beautiful clean session for intermediates who can handle the size. Energy is still solid at 1238.

Thursday the 9th backslides a bit—5ft but cross winds, then onshore in the afternoon. Not your day.

Friday the 10th is small and clean but weak, 4ft with moderate winds. Better than a flat spell, but nothing to get excited about.

Then Saturday the 11th delivers again. Morning has 6ft of west-southwest swell at a very long 17 seconds. The energy jumps to 1733, and it’s clean with a light cross-off breeze. That’s excellent, experienced-level surf. The afternoon holds at 6ft but with a shorter 16-second period.

From Sunday the 12th through Wednesday the 15th, the surf drops to the 3ft to 5ft range, but conditions are generally clean and glassy at times. There’s a standout on Wednesday the 15th afternoon—a glassy 4ft west swell with a 16-second period. That’s clean longboard conditions, and the energy is moderate (726). Good for the beginner crew.

Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th see size return to 4ft to 4ft, but winds are cross or cross-on, so it gets choppy and messy. Not recommended.

Saturday the 18th is a total washout—28 mph cross-on winds, rain, and messy surf. Stay home.

So to wrap it up: the absolute standouts are Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th for experienced surfers, with solid, clean, strong west groundswell. For the beginners and intermediates, the best clean, smaller windows are Sunday afternoon the 5th, Wednesday afternoon the 8th, and Wednesday afternoon the 15th.

Rusty.
