The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at the Bude surf scene for the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch coming up. The ocean is looking pretty sleepy for a while with no real swell energy to speak of.
We've got a long, flat gap stretching from the start of this run. Between Friday the 31st of July right the way through to the middle of August, it's pretty much small fry. The combined energy of all swells here is barely registering, mostly sitting in the weak 11 to 62 range. You're looking at ankle to maybe knee-high slop, if you're lucky. The best chance of something clean is on Sunday the 2nd of August when a light ESE offshore breeze hits that 1ft of W swell, but it's tiny. Then again on Monday the 3rd of August, we get a glassy morning with the same 2ft, 9-second swell, but it's still poor conditions.
Things don't really look like they’re going to change. Most mornings that have a clean wind—like the 9th of August with a glassy SSW breeze—are still showing poor surf conditions with only 2ft of W swell on offer. The wind is mostly from the NW or cross-shore, messing up the already minimal swell.
There’s a slight lift right at the end. On Friday the 14th of August, the swell dipsy-doodles up to 3ft from the W, but the period is a short 7 seconds and it's under a moderate to fresh onshore or cross-onshore blow. The combined energy (85) still says poor. This looks more like a windy, choppy mess than something for a log. Honestly, for the next two weeks, there isn't a standout session in the bunch. It's a proper flat spell for the north coast. Keep the board in the bag and the wax out, lads.
Rusty.
