Updates in  hr  min  s Forecast update imminent

Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for our stretch of coast. Gotta be straight with you – this forecast is a flat spell. We’re looking at a real long stretch of nothing special on offer, so don’t go getting your hopes up for any heroics.

Right now, and for the next several days, it’s all about small, weak surf. The energy is basically a whisper. For the first week, from Tuesday the 7th right through to Monday the 13th, it’s a mix of tiny, weak swell and dodgy wind. The best we see in that whole run is Friday morning the 10th, where we get a clean, 3ft west swell with a bit of offshore breeze. The energy (106) is just about moderate, but the problem is the period hangs around 9 seconds – it’s a short, weak, windswell. It’ll be surfable for a beginner at Bude if you’re desperate, but you won’t be writing home about it. The water temp feels about average for this time of year, nothing weird going on.

That first week has a few moments of glassy conditions – like Wednesday morning the 8th and Thursday morning the 9th – but the swell is so tiny (2ft) and the energy is weak (around 60-70), it’s barely enough to get a longboard planing. You’d be doing more floating than surfing. Crowds can be a factor at Bude when it’s like this, just because everyone’s looking for a ride.

Then we hit a proper dry spell. From late on the 13th all the way through to the 22nd of July, there’s pretty much nothing. The swell drops to 0.3ft to 1.0ft, with combined energy figures in the teens or single digits. The wind is all over the shop – strong offshore, cross-off, onshore – but with that little swell, it doesn’t matter. It’s just flat. There’s a couple of glassy mornings in that second week, like Friday the 17th and Monday the 20th, but there’s no wave to surf. It’s a full-on lull.

If you’re looking for a standout, there isn’t one. The only time I’d even point you to the water is the Friday morning the 10th at Bude for that 3ft clean, offshore bump. It’s not good, but it’s the least bad of a bad bunch. The rest of the 16-day window is a write-off. This is one of those quiet spells where you just wait for the next system.

Rusty.
