Alright, let me take a look at what we’ve got for the coming days here. I’ll be straight with you – this is a tough stretch. Usually, Bude can dish up some fun waves, but right now we’re in a flat spell that’s going to drag on for a good while. The whole 16-day window is looking poor, with no standout sessions.
Looking at the data, there’s really no decent surf to recommend at all. The first proper day I can see is Saturday the 4th of July, but even then it’s a write-off: a weak 3ft from the west, short 10-second period, and onshore westerly winds at 9 to 16 mph making a mess of it. Wave energy is low to moderate (199 dropping to 136), and the score is a flat zero. That set-up just isn’t worth paddling out for, especially for a beginner-friendly spot like Bude.
Sunday the 5th and Monday the 6th are similar – tiny 2ft to 2ft west swell, gentle onshore breeze, and wave energy falling into the weak range (90 down to 69). Still poor. Tuesday the 7th is even smaller at 2ft, with energy dropping to 42. No joy.
We do get a couple of glassy mornings on Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th, with a light easterly breeze cleaning it right up. That’s a major positive for conditions, but the swell is still just 2ft from the west, period at 9 seconds, and combined energy only 60. It might look pretty, but there’s hardly any push. Friday the 10th brings a strong offshore from the ESE at 22 mph, cleaning up a 2ft to 2ft west swell, but it’s still tiny. For a more experienced surfer, maybe a longboard session on those glassy mornings, but nothing to get excited about.
After that, a new small northwest swell shows up on Saturday the 11th, at 3ft but with a terrible 6-second period and cross-shore winds. The wave energy bumps to 101 (moderate), but the quality is still poor. Sunday the 12th to Tuesday the 14th sees some 2ft to 3ft west-northwest swell, but it’s all onshore or cross-onshore, chopped up. The longer-period swell on Monday the 13th (12 seconds) is a tease – only 1ft to 2ft, so no real power.
The second week is more of the same: tiny, weak, and mostly onshore. From Wednesday the 15th to Sunday the 19th of July, we’re looking at 1.0ft to 3ft west swell, poor winds, and wave energy mostly below 100, hitting a low of 22 on Saturday the 18th. There’s nothing here for a surfer.
If you were hoping for a surf trip, I’d say save your energy. This is a blank run that’s normal for the area when the Atlantic isn’t cooperating. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a solid two weeks of no-go. Keep an eye on it, but don’t hold your breath.
