Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bude over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get real about Bude for the next couple of weeks. I’m looking at the charts and, honestly, it’s a pretty grim run for the most part. We’ve got a solid block of time where the surf is just too small or the wind is messy, so don’t get your hopes up for any kind of proper session for a while.
The first hint of anything rideable comes on the morning of Friday, July 10th. We’re looking at a small 3ft swell from the west with a 9-second period, so it’s a weak, short-period groundswell. The combined energy is only 104 (moderate), but the real kicker is the wind. We’ve got a light 3 mph easterly, which is offshore. That’s clean, glassy conditions, making the most of the tiny waves. It’s a beginner-friendly spot, but with the swell being that small, it’s more of a longboard or foiling deal. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing weird going on there.
After that little window, it’s a write-off. The next few days are plagued by onshore or cross-shore winds, and the swell drops to nothing. From Saturday, July 11th, right through to Thursday, July 23rd, it’s a long stretch of tiny, weak waves and poor conditions. You’ll see a few days with clean offshore winds, like the mornings of the 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th, but the swell is just pathetic – 0.3ft to 1.0ft with combined energy in the single digits or low teens. There’s a glassy morning on the 16th and 22nd, but again, no swell.
The best we get is a slight uptick right at the end. On the morning of Friday, July 24th, the swell bumps up to 3ft from the west-northwest, with a 6-second period. The wind is onshore though, so it’ll be a bit bumpy. The combined energy hits 77 (weak). The afternoon of the 24th looks a little better with a 4ft west swell, 9-second period, and 194 combined energy (moderate), but still with an onshore wind. It’s not great, but it’s the best of a bad bunch. Saturday morning, July 25th, has a similar 3ft swell, but the wind is cross-on, so it’s choppy.
Let’s be honest, this is a tough run for Bude. The consistent truth is that the swell is too small for any real quality, and when the wind is good, there’s no energy. It’s a spot that can be fun, but this forecast is a dud. If you’re desperate, the Friday morning of the 10th is your only clean shot at something tiny, and the 24th might offer a few crumbly, onshore waves. Otherwise, the kite surfers might have more fun on the windy days, but for paddle surfing, it’s a long wait.
