Alright, Rusty here again, same story but in feet and degrees F for my imperial crew.
The next 16 days at La Madrague are looking pretty bleak. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing much to get excited about.
The water is running at about 74°F right now, which is way warmer than normal – about 6°F above average for this time of year.
Looking at the first day of the run, Monday, July 6th starts with a tiny bit of hope. Early morning we’ve got a light 6 mph offshore breeze from the east cleaning up a weak 2ft NW swell. The energy is low, just 64, and the period is a modest 9 seconds. It’s surfable, but only just – very ordinary. The afternoon turns bad with a cross-shore wind, so that window is tight.
From there, it’s a grim picture. Tuesday the 7th through to Thursday the 10th are all poor – small swells, and mostly cross-onshore or onshore winds making a mess.
There is a brief flicker on Saturday, July 11th. The morning shows a light easterly offshore again, with the swell bumping up a touch to 2ft from the WNW. The combined energy climbs to 102 and the period stays at 9 seconds. It’s still just “ordinary” but a step up. The north wind picks up strong in the afternoon though, so it’s a half-day window.
Sunday, July 12th is actually the little standout of the whole outlook. Morning starts glassy – a 3 mph SE breeze, dead calm. The swell is a tiny but clean 2ft from the NW with a 10 second period, and the energy is at 111. The afternoon stays glassy with a light NNW breeze. If you’ve got a longboard, this is your best bet for the next two weeks. It’s as clean as it gets here, even if the size is minimal.
After that, it’s back to the doldrums. Monday the 13th shows a small increase to 3ft from the NW, but the cross-onshore wind kills it. The rest of the second week is a write-off – very small waves, onshore winds, and even some rain and thunderstorms by the 21st.
So the call is simple: if you’re desperate, the glassy session on Sunday the 12th is your only real chance for something clean. Otherwise, it’s a long flat spell ahead. Forecasts can change, but right now, patience is the name of the game.
Rusty.
