Anglet - L'Ocean Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Right now, the surf is pretty ordinary and it’s gonna stay that way for a while. There’s a long dry spell coming up – from Sunday the 26th of July right through to Thursday morning the 30th, it’s mostly poor conditions. Sunday morning has a 5 ft NW swell on it but the wind is a cross-on 12 mph from the WNW, so it’s choppy and messy. The water temp is a scorching 77°, which is a massive 7° warmer than normal – that’s very unusual for this time of year. The combined energy is moderate (240), but the short 7-second period means the waves are weak and won’t hold shape.

Sunday afternoon and Monday are also poor. Monday morning does see the energy jump to a strong 321, with a 3 ft NW swell and a much longer 11-second period, but the wind is light and cross-shore, and the breakdown calls it marginal – not worth paddling out for.

Now, Tuesday the 28th of July is where it gets interesting. Tuesday morning we’ve got clean conditions thanks to a light offshore breeze from the E at 6 mph. The swell is 4 ft from the NW with a 10-second period, moderate combined energy of 362. The wind is offshore, which for this exposed beach/jetty setup is a big positive – should be clean, lined-up sets. Tuesday afternoon stays clean with a 4 ft NW swell and a light cross-offshore breeze. That morning session is your standout – the best on offer across the whole 16-day window.

Wednesday the 29th has glassy conditions on the morning (NNW 3 mph) with a 4 ft NW swell and a 9-second period, combined energy of 194 (moderate). The waves are surfable but the description calls it very ordinary – it’s rideable but nothing special.

From Thursday the 30th of July onwards, it turns flat and messy. There’s a big gap of poor surf from the 30th right through to the 10th of August. Thursday and Friday have tiny 2 ft to 2 ft NW swells with weak energy (as low as 41). The winds are mostly cross-on or onshore, and the period drops to 7-8 seconds – just no power or shape.

Over the first week of August, it’s the same story. Saturday the 1st and Sunday the 2nd have 2 ft to 3 ft swell, but the period is short (5-7 seconds) and the wind is on or cross-on. Combined energy is weak to very weak (35 to 79). Monday the 3rd, Tuesday the 4th, and Wednesday the 5th stay poor, with occasional clean windows like Wednesday morning the 5th (3 ft, cross-offshore, clean) but it’s small and weak – surfable but not a standout.

Thursday the 6th to Sunday the 9th are all poor or ordinary. Monday the 10th of August sees a 3 ft WNW swell with a 10-second period and moderate energy (133), but the wind is onshore – not worth the drive.

So, if you’re keen, hit Tuesday the 28th of July morning – it’s clean, offshore, and the best we’ve got. Otherwise, you’re looking at a patchy, mostly flat week or two.
