The Lowdown
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you. The next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat and uninspiring for Algajola. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak waves, and honestly, most of it isn't worth getting too worked up about.
The water is a massive talking point, though. It’s sitting at a very unusual 85°, which is about 8° warmer than normal for this time of year. That's not just a little warm, that's properly weird, like bathwater.
Right now, this Tuesday morning (18 August), we do have some surfable waves, but it’s pretty ordinary. There’s a 4ft swell from the WSW, but the period is a short 7 seconds, so it’s going to be a bit crumbly and lack punch. The combined energy is a weak-moderate 141, so there’s a little something there. The wind is light and offshore, which will keep it clean, but the quality is just "meh." You could get a few fun ones if you’re desperate, but this isn't the day to call in sick for.
The rest of the week and into the weekend is a real struggle. We're looking at a period of barely rideable slop. Wednesday sees the swell drop to 3ft with a clean glassy morning, but it’s lacking any real power. The afternoons are mostly blown out with onshore breezes. Thursday and Friday are similar, with small swells and moderate winds—nothing doing.
After a super flat weekend, there’s a slight pulse of energy on Tuesday 25 August. The swell jumps to 4ft with combined energy hitting 177, the highest we'll see in this whole window. However, the period is still just 6 seconds, and there’s a moderate cross-shore wind messing things up. It’s going to be lumpy, messy, and not much fun. The setup is looking more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing on that day.
From the 26th onwards, it’s a real desert. We have days where there’s zero swell, and the rest are just tiny, ankle-slapping leftovers. There’s no point in even talking about the waves when they’re this small. The wind is mostly cross-off or light, but you can’t surf nothing. The second week just fades out into nothingness.
So, there you have it. A long stretch of poor surf with only a few moments of "maybe if you squint." The best bet is probably this morning if you can get out there for a splash, but keep your expectations in the gutter and just enjoy the warm water. It’s a blank run, but that’s how it goes sometimes. We just gotta wait for the ocean to wake up again.
Rusty.
