The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for the next couple of weeks.

Well, it's a pretty quiet scene out here at Yucca Bay. The whole 16-day window is a bit of a washout, if I'm being honest. The tell-tale sign is that every single session is rated as poor surf conditions. There's no real window to get excited about from the get-go. The wind is locked in from the east, blowing cross-onshore or cross-shore for the entire period, keeping things choppy and lumpy. It's a real bummer.

We start off on Tuesday the 4th of August with a 4 ft swell from the east, but it's short-period at 7 seconds and punching into a 19 mph easterly. The combined energy is weak to moderate (131). It's just messy. That pattern holds through the first week – anywhere from 3 ft to 5 ft of short-period east swell, with winds never dropping below 9 mph and usually up around 15-19 mph. The water temp is a warm 84°, which is pretty normal for this time of year.

As we push into the second week, the swell picks up a touch. By Saturday the 15th of August, we're seeing 5 ft to 6 ft on the Sunday, but again, it's all east windswell (periods of 8 seconds or less) with a constant cross-onshore breeze. The energy gets up to moderate levels (347 to 405), but with the wind ruining any chance of a clean face, it's more of a kite-surfing setup than a paddle session. The combo of a beach-and-reef setup with this much onshore wind just makes it a struggle.

There's simply no standout here. This is a blank run. The forecast is consistent, but consistently poor. For a spot like this, a stretch of these conditions is fairly normal. You'd be better off waiting for a change in the wind pattern. The only thing I can say is that forecasts can change.

Rusty.
