Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tullan Strand over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what’s comin’ down the line. I’ve got Tullan Strand up on the table, and it’s a bit of a mixed bag.
Right now, the water temp at Tullan Strand is sittin’ at about 62°, which is a solid 5° warmer than we’d usually expect for this time of year. That’s a real bonus – feels like you’re in the tropics.
We’re lookin’ at a long stretch ahead. From now through just about the whole first week, it’s pretty flat and uninspiring. We’ve got a solid 10-day gap here with nothin’ worth paddlin’ out for. From Sunday the 12th through to the mornin’ of Monday the 20th, the swell is tiny – 0.6ft to 2ft – with a mix of cross-off and onshore breezes. You’ll see some glassy conditions on Friday the 17th mornin’, but with only 0.6ft on offer, you’d be spendin’ more time sittin’ than surfin’.
Then things start to look up. On Monday the 20th, we finally get some push. The mornin’ shows a combined swell energy of 190 (moderate) with 4ft from the west and a cross-onshore breeze. It’s still a bit lumpy, but at least there’s somethin’ to ride. The afternoon sees the swell bump up to 6ft, with energy climbin’ to 465, but the wind stays cross-onshore, makin’ it pretty choppy. Not clean, but it’s buildin’.
Tuesday the 21st keeps that same theme – 6ft swell from the west, energy around 646, but again that cross-onshore wind keeps things messy. Definitely not a standout, but for those who’ve been waitin’, it’s a sign of life.
The real standout window hits on Wednesday the 22nd. Mornin’ session brings a solid 8ft groundswell from the west-northwest with a period of 11 seconds and a massive combined energy of 1720 – that’s strong energy. Even better, we get a light cross-shore breeze with only small wind ripples. That’s a clean setup. Now, the period is 11 seconds, so it’s still a long-period groundswell, which can be a bit tricky on a beach break – sets might come a little straighter, but the waves will have some real power and shape. This one is for the experienced crew, as 8ft is big stuff; beginners should sit this one out. Crowds are listed as ‘sometimes’ here, so expect a few others clued into the same window.
The afternoon stays at 8ft but the cross-shore wind gets stronger and messier, so the mornin’ is the clear winner.
After that, it fades down through Thursday and into the weekend, with swell droppin’ fast and winds turnin’ onshore again, choppin’ things up.
So, to sum it up: don’t bother until Monday the 20th at the earliest. The top pick without a doubt is the Wednesday the 22nd mornin’ session at Tullan Strand. That 8ft west-northwest swell with light cross-shore breezes is the one to point your board toward. It’s big, it’s powerful, and for the advanced surfer, it’ll be the cleanest wave you’ll see in this forecast.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
