The Lowdown
Alright, let’s break it down. Rusty here.
Right now, it’s flat and messy. The first few days are pretty much a no-go. Tiny waves and the wind is all over the place – cross-onshore, onshore, just not doing anyone any favours. Tullan Strand is seeing nothing worth getting wet for.
Come Monday the 26th of August, things finally turn around. A 3ft swell from the WNW with an 11 second period shows up, and the wind is offshore from the ESE. That’s clean, lined-up surf. The combined swell energy is moderate at 254, and that offshore breeze is a game-changer. It’s not big, so it’s good for everyone. The afternoon holds up too, with similar size and a clean offshore flow. This is your first real window.
Tuesday and Wednesday drop off hard. Small, weak swell, and the winds are either cross-off or cross-shore. It’s not blown to bits, but there’s no power.
Thursday the 29th is messy with onshore wind, and the weekend stays average.
Now into the second week, we see some serious size. Monday the 2nd of September has bigger swell, but the wind is strong and cross-onshore, making it lumpy. That pattern sticks for a few days. Not worth it.
Friday the 6th of September sees a huge 10ft swell from the WNW with a 10 second period, but again, fresh cross-onshore wind spoils it. The combined swell energy is a massive 1649, so there’s plenty of power, but it’s a mess. Experts only if you’re keen.
The clear standout is Saturday the 7th of September. A 6ft WNW swell with a 10 second period, clean moderate offshore wind from the SSE, and a strong combined energy of 784. This is the one. Clean, powerful, and the conditions are right. The afternoon stays good too with a 6ft swell and clean conditions.
Sunday the 8th drops back into onshore junk. So, bottom line: hit Monday the 26th of August for the first clean one, and mark Saturday the 7th of September – that’s the best of the whole forecast.
Rusty.
