Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tullan Strand over the next 16 days.
Alright, I’m looking at the charts for our stretch of coast over the next couple of weeks, and to be honest, it’s a bit of a mixed bag with a lot of patience needed. The surf’s going to be small and far between for the most part, but there’s one clear standout that’s got me frothing.
The first real chance to get wet is tomorrow morning, Wednesday the 8th, at Tullan Strand. It’s a west swell coming in at 3 ft, and the wind’s almost glassy out of the WSW at 3 mph. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so don’t worry about a chill. The combined energy is moderate, sitting at 168, and the period is a bit short at 9 seconds, so the waves won’t have a ton of punch. We’re looking at surfable but very ordinary conditions. It’s a consistent spot, and with the glassy morning, the lineup might get a bit of a crowd. Still, it’s the best we’ve got for a few days.
Thursday the 9th is a write-off with poor conditions and cross-onshore wind, and the swell drops back. Friday the 10th morning is the real gem in this forecast. There’s a clean 3 ft swell from the west, but the period stretches out to a nice 11 seconds – that’s proper groundswell energy. The wind is glassy, calm, and out of the NW at 3 mph. The combined energy jumps up to 227, which is moderate but solid. This will produce clean, lined-up waves. The long period means longer waits between sets, but the wave shape will be way better than the short-period dribble. With that offshore wind direction from the NW, the sets will hold up nicely.
The rest of the first week just fades out. Saturday the 11th through Tuesday the 15th sees swell drop to below 2 ft, with clean but tiny conditions. We’re looking at a gap of about four days with no real surf worth paddling for, just ankle-biters.
Into the second week, there’s a slight lift on Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd. The swell pushes up to 4 ft – 4 ft from the west-northwest, and the energy climbs back up into the 220–240 range. The combined energy of all swells directed here (243) on Tuesday afternoon is moderate-strong. But the wind is a messy cross-onshore or onshore from the north and WNW, blowing at 9–12 mph. It’s choppy and bumpy, and the wave quality is poor. This is raw, chunky conditions – more interesting for kite surfing than clean paddle surfing for most.
The final morning on Thursday the 23rd shows some hope. A light offshore from the SE at 6 mph with a 3 ft west swell and a 9-second period. The energy is weak (96), but the conditions are clean. It’s surfable but very ordinary – a small, clean wave for a longboard or a funboard if you’re desperate.
To call it straight – the standout is Friday morning, July 10th, at Tullan Strand. Glassy conditions, a 3 ft west swell with a long 11-second period, moderate energy, and clean waves. It’s the only morning that really shines. After that, it’s a waiting game.
