Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tullan Strand over the next 16 days.
Right folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for Tullan Strand over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – it's a bit of a slow burn, but there is a flicker of hope if you're patient.
Alright, so for the next two weeks, the surf is mostly flat to tiny. We've got a long stretch of poor conditions right from the start. From Saturday the 11th of July right through to Friday the 25th, the swell is just a whisper, mostly under 3 ft. The wind is a mess too – mostly cross-off or cross-on, but it’s the tiny swell that kills it. The wave energy is weak, barely pushing past 100 (like 90) for most of that time, so the waves just won't have any punch. For a stretch there in the middle, from the 15th to the 19th, we're looking at swell heights of 0.7 ft to 1 ft, which is basically a lake. The water is warm though, at 62°F, which is a solid 4°F warmer than usual – a real treat for the time of year, but you need a wave to enjoy it.
Now, there is one standout, but it's a long way off. On Saturday the 25th, we start to see a bit of life. The morning is your best bet. Swell bumps up to a clean 5 ft from the WNW, with a period of 10 seconds. The wind is light and cross-on, but the energy is finally there at 262 – that's moderate energy, enough to get a bit of shape on the sandbanks. It's still marked as marginal, but for Tullan, that's the best show in town. The afternoon gets messy though, with the wind picking up.
Then, hold onto your boards for Sunday the 26th of July. The swell builds proper – 5 ft from the west, with a solid 10-second period. That's some real energy, a strong 460 on the scale. The problem is the wind: a stiff onshore breeze will be chopping it up. This is a big swell for Tullan, over 5 ft, so it'll be too much for beginners, and onshore wind will make it a battle. Honestly, with that big onshore wind and the beach break setup, it’s looking more like a kite-surfing session than a pleasant paddle.
So, to sum it up: don't bother for the first two weeks, it's dead. The only real glimmer is the morning of Saturday the 25th of July, if you can get a tide right. The Sunday the 26th has size but will be a real scrapper. Keep an eye on the forecasts, it tends not to stay this quiet forever.
Rusty.
