Alright, let’s get into it. This is Rusty, and I’m looking at the next couple of weeks for Tullan Strand. I’ll be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch. There’s a long gap from now, Monday the 13th, all the way through to the end of the week with nothing worth paddling out for. The swell is tiny, mostly around 0.7ft to 1ft, and the wind is either cross-off or glassy at times, but there’s just no energy in the water. The combined swell energy is in the single digits or low teens (6 to 36) – that’s weak. The water temp is 63°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, a real anomaly of 5°.
We get a little bump around the 21st and 22nd, with swell up to 3ft, but the wind is fresh and cross or cross-onshore, making it lumpy and choppy. The energy picks up a bit (67 to 110), but it’s still poor surf conditions.
The only real glimmer comes right at the end, on Saturday the 25th. The morning and afternoon both show surfable waves, with the swell around 3ft from the W, period 8 seconds. The wind is light and cross-off from the E, keeping it clean. The combined energy is moderate (137 in the morning, 116 in the afternoon). It’s not a standout, but it’s the best on offer. Tullan Strand is a consistent, exposed beach break, and with a W swell and light cross-off wind, it’ll be rideable for beginners. Crowds are sometimes an issue here, so you might have company.
After that, the 26th and 27th have some surfable waves, but the wind gets stronger. The 27th has a 0.8m to 0.9m WNW swell with gentle offshore wind from the SE, keeping it clean. The energy is moderate (108 to 144). Still, nothing to write home about.
So, a long, flat start, a few ordinary days, and one small but clean window on the 25th. That’s your best bet. Keep an eye on it, but don’t expect much.
Rusty.
