The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Tullan Strand over the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you – it’s a rough start. We’re looking at a whole lot of nothing for the first few days, so don’t even bother waxing up just yet.
The first proper sniff of a wave doesn’t show up until Monday the 24th of August. That’s a solid five-day wait with nothing worth paddling out for. We’ve got some wind and chop, but nothing with any push.
Okay, so Monday the 24th. This is your one true standout for the whole outlook. Tullan Strand wakes up. We’ve got a 4ft swell rolling in from the WNW with an 11-second period. That’s a nice groundswell, and with the wind swingin’ ESE at 15 km/h, it’s a clean, cross-off breeze. The water’s sitting at a very warm 63°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – a solid 4° above average. The combined wave energy is moderate at 313. It’s not going to be huge, but it’ll be clean and lined up. Keep in mind, this spot can get crowded sometimes.
Tuesday the 25th drops off quick. The swell fades to 2ft, and while the wind is still offshore, the energy is weak (86). Not really worth the paddle.
We get another little pulse on Friday the 28th of August. Morning session shows a 4ft WNW swell, but the period is a short 8 seconds, so it’ll be a bit choppier and less powerful. The wind is light and cross-off from the ESE, keeping it clean. Energy is moderate at 212. It’s surfable, but nothing special.
Then we go into another dry spell. There’s a brief moment on Thursday the 3rd of September with a 4ft NW swell and glassy conditions in the morning – dead calm wind. But the period is a short 7 seconds, so it’s going to be a bit crumbly and weak (energy of 140). It’s a marginal call at best.
After that, it’s all downhill. The second week fizzles out with tiny, weak, and messy waves. Honestly, don’t hold your breath past that Monday the 24th.
Stay stoked, but be patient.
