Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tullan Strand over the next 16 days.
Hey, Rusty here. Let’s be honest—this stretch at Tullan Strand is a mixed bag. We’ve got plenty of flat days and wind, but there’s a couple of windows worth getting wet.
It all starts Thursday 9th July. That afternoon you’ve got a consistent 3ft west swell with a 9-second period, and the wind is glassy from the WNW at just 3 mph. That’s proper clean. The water’s 63°F, which is a huge 6°F above normal for this time of year—really unusual. The combined wave energy is moderate at 126, so there’s some punch. Perfect for beginners since it’s under 5ft. Crowds can show up sometimes.
From Friday 10th July to Wednesday 15th July, it’s grim. Swell drops right off, wind turns onshore or cross-onshore, and energy plummets to as low as 14. Those mornings and afternoons are clean but tiny—1ft or less. Barely a ripple.
Things perk up a little around Sunday 19th July. By Sunday morning, you’ve got a 4ft west-northwest swell with a 10-second period, energy at 276 (moderate). But the wind’s howling onshore from the NW at 15-16 mph, so it’ll be choppy and messy.
The standout, if you can call it one, is Thursday 23rd July afternoon. That’s a 6ft west swell with a long 13-second period—proper groundswell. Energy hits 942 (strong). But the wind is fresh cross-onshore from the west at 19 mph, so the surface will be lumpy. This one’s for experts only, as it’s over 5ft. The long period (over 11 seconds) means good shape but might break a bit straight at a beach break. Paddling out’s easier with those longer lulls.
The real gem is Friday 24th July morning. You’ve got a 4ft west swell with a 10-second period, and light offshore wind from the SSE at 6 mph. That’s clean, glassy conditions. Energy is solid at 360 (moderate). This is your best bet. It’s under 8ft, so good for intermediate surfers, and that offshore wind will keep it smooth. That afternoon goes downhill with stronger cross-offshore wind.
Bottom line: hit Thursday 9th July afternoon for a clean beginner session, or aim for Friday 24th July morning for the best combo of swell and offshore wind. The rest is mostly a write-off. Stay tuned—forecasts can shift.
Rusty.
