Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for Tullan Strand over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you, this is a tough one to write.
Right off the bat, the picture is pretty bleak. We've got a 16-day window, but the first solid bit of action doesn't show up until Wednesday the 8th. Even then, it's nothing to write home about. The water temp is sitting at 63°, which is *much warmer than normal* for this time of year – a proper anomaly of 6° – so at least you won't need the thickest wetsuit if you're desperate for a paddle.
Let's walk through it. Tuesday the 7th is out. We've got a 4ft swell from the west with a short 9-second period, but it's being hammered by a 12 mph cross-on wind. It's choppy, messy, and the wave energy is weak at 210. Not worth getting wet for.
Wednesday the 8th morning is your first tiny glimmer of hope. The swell drops to 3ft from the west, period still short at 9 seconds, but the wind goes glassy – a 3 mph breeze from the SSW. It's clean, but the surf is described as "very ordinary." With weak energy at 164, you might find a few crumbly waves, but honestly, it's more of a paddle than a surf.
Thursday the 9th morning is similar. A 3ft west swell with a 9-second period, but the wind is a light 6 mph cross-off from the SSW, cleaning it up. Energy is still weak at 155. It's surfable, but again, very ordinary.
After that, from Friday the 10th all the way through to the early morning of Monday the 22nd, the outlook turns grim. The swell drops to knee-high or less (0.3ft to 2ft), the period gets short (4 to 10 seconds), and the wave energy plummets to single digits and low double digits. There's a few days with clean offshore winds, like the 14th with a 12 mph offshore from the ESE, but with only a 2ft, 10-second swell and energy of 55, it's just not enough to push a wave. You'll be sitting there, and the ocean will be a lake.
Finally, in the last window, on the morning of Wednesday the 22nd, we see a pulse of energy. A 3ft swell from the west-northwest with an 8-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 113 – finally into the moderate range. The wind is a light 3 mph onshore from the NW. The afternoon bumps up to a 4ft swell with energy of 149. But the wind is still a light onshore. It's the best we've got in the whole forecast, but it's far from a standout.
Honestly, there's no standout session here. The consistency is there for Tullan but the swell just isn't. The only real highlight is that the water is unseasonably warm, so if you absolutely have to get in, Wednesday the 8th or Thursday the 9th mornings are your cleanest options for a few tiny, crumbly waves. For the rest of it, it's a long, flat stretch. The break itself is exposed to the west, which is the direction of the swell, so the setup is right, but the ocean just isn't delivering.
The best on offer? The morning of Wednesday the 22nd, but that's a full two weeks away, so treat it as a promising but very uncertain hope. For now, I'd give the board a rest.
Rusty.
