Alright, let’s see what we’ve got here. Honestly, looking at the whole 16-day window, this is a tough stretch for Tullan Strand. There’s no proper swell window that lines up with clean conditions, so we’re stuck with small, weak waves and mostly messy winds. But if you’re desperate for a paddle, there are a few moments that might just give you a surfable wave – just don’t expect anything special.
The first few days, from Sunday the 5th right through to Tuesday the 8th, the swell is hanging around 4 ft to 4 ft out of the west with a period of 8 to 9 seconds. The problem is the wind: cross and cross-on, 9 to 12 mph, and that’s putting a chop on everything. It’s poor surf, plain and simple – not worth the rubber. The water temp is sitting at 63°, and that’s a massive 6° above normal for the time of year, so it’s very unusually warm. But with the messy conditions, that’s small comfort.
Then Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th, we drop to 3 ft west swell, still a 9-second period. The combined energy is weak – it’s coming in at 130 (Sunday the 8th morning) and 127 (Monday the 9th morning). But here’s the catch: the wind goes glassy in the mornings with a light SSW breeze at 3 mph. That’s the best we’re going to get. These are surfable waves, but they’re ordinary – small, weak, and you’ll be fighting for any kind of shape. The crowd factor at Tullan is “sometimes” busy, so with waves this small, you might have a bit of room, but don’t count on any quality. It’s a consistent break, but there’s just no power.
From Friday the 10th, it’s a real decline. Swell drops under 3 ft, period stays short or goes to a moderate 10 seconds, but the wind swings onshore and stays that way for days. The energy levels fall off a cliff – down to 60 and 55 in the coming days. That’s just tiny, weak, poor surf. You’ve got a long gap of nothing good from the 10th through to the 13th, with only glassy moments on the 13th morning but with a tiny 1 ft swell – 20 combined energy. A total flop.
Tuesday the 14th morning has another glassy window with 2 ft west swell at 10 seconds. Combined energy is 94 – still very weak, but the cleanest it’s been in a while. Again, it’s surfable but very ordinary. After that, it’s more of the same: tiny waves, cross-off or glassy winds on a couple of mornings, with swells down to 1 ft or 2 ft. The whole second week is a write-off for any decent surf – really just tiny dribblers out there.
There is no standout in this entire forecast. If you have to pick something, the mornings of Wednesday the 8th, Thursday the 9th, and Tuesday the 14th offer the only real windows for a clean, glassy surface – but the swell is small and weak. It’s not going to be a day to remember. Wait for a better forecast.
