The Lowdown
Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Trestraou over the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, it’s a pretty grim stretch. The whole 16-day window is a real struggle. There’s no standout, no day where you’d be rushing to get your wetsuit on. It’s one of those periods where the ocean just doesn’t want to play ball. The forecast is consistently poor, with scores bottoming out across the board. Honestly, it’s a bit of a blank run, and for this area, that’s not totally unheard of when the conditions just don’t line up.
We start off on Friday, 17th July, with a tiny 2 ft NE windswell at 6 seconds, but with a 12 mph ENE cross-on breeze, it’s just choppy and messy. The energy is weak (31). That sets the tone. Saturday the 18th sees a bit of a drop, with a 1.0 ft W swell at 9 seconds, but it’s still cross-shore and, well, poor. The whole first week is like this—small, onshore, and generally unrideable. Even on Sunday the 19th, when the swell bumps up to 5 ft from the ENE, the wind is a fresh 22 mph cross-on, making it a lumpy, blown-out mess. The energy is moderate (140), but that’s all it is—just messy energy.
The second week doesn’t get any better. There’s a small window of cleaner conditions around Wednesday the 29th and Thursday the 30th of July. The wind goes cross-offshore from the west, which is a rare positive. On the 29th, we get a 4 ft W swell (7 seconds) with a clean look in the morning and a moderate energy reading (175). The 30th shows a similar 4 ft WNW swell (9 seconds) in the morning, also clean, with energy jumping to 222. But even then, the scores are still zero. It’s surfable, but far from good. The water temperature is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual to report.
So, there it is. No hidden gems, no secret windows. If you’re desperate, maybe the clean-ish mornings of the 29th and 30th of July offer a tiny chance for a paddle, but don’t expect much. The setup here is a sheltered spot, but with the wind being mostly cross or onshore, it just never lines up. It’s a kite-surfing kind of week for the most part.
