The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for Trestraou over the next couple of weeks.
Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – this is a rough patch. The next few days are pretty much a write-off. From Sunday the 19th right through to the end of the month, we're looking at a long stretch of flat, weak, and messy conditions. The wind is mostly cross-on or onshore, the swell is tiny, and the period is short. It's going to be choppy and lumpy, and honestly, not worth paddling out for. You're looking at a solid 10-day gap with no real recommendations.
Now, the water temp is sitting around 64°F, which is about normal for this time of year, so at least the water feels familiar.
Let's jump ahead to the end of the month. Things start to look a little more interesting on Tuesday, the 28th of July. We've got a pulse of swell coming through, with the combined energy of all swells hitting 734 (moderate wave energy). The swell is from the WNW, pushing in at around 6ft, with a period of 10 seconds. That's a decent groundswell, but the catch is it's a bit on the bigger side – over 5ft – so it's not for beginners. The wind is a light cross-on from the NW, so it's not perfect, but the morning session might be the cleaner of the two windows. The afternoon gets a bit choppier.
If you're an experienced surfer and you're desperate for a wave, the best window in this whole 16-day forecast lands on the 28th of July. It's the standout, but it's still a "marginal" call. The swell direction is WNW, which is a good match for the spot's optimum direction. The wave energy is moderate, but it's the biggest we see in the whole run.
The first week of August looks cleaner but smaller. On Saturday, the 1st of August, we have a WNW swell of 4ft with a 10-second period, and the wind goes cross-off from the W on the morning tide. That means clean conditions. The combined energy is 269 (moderate). It's a better option for a more relaxed session, but it's not as powerful as that Tuesday pulse.
Sunday, the 2nd of August, is similar – clean, cross-off winds, 5ft swell from the WNW, but the period drops to 9 seconds. It's still a fun, clean wave, but not a standout.
Overall, if you're hanging for a wave, pencil in Tuesday, the 28th of July morning for the best chance of something with a bit of push, but keep your expectations in check. The rest of the time, it's a waiting game.
Rusty.
