The Lowdown
Alright, listen up, Trestraou. The next two weeks are a bit of a bummer. Not much to work with until the very end, so don’t rush down there.
From Tuesday the 14th right through the first week, it’s flat and trashy. Nothing bigger than 3 feet, and most of it is under 2 feet. Wind is mostly cross-on or onshore, and the water temp is about normal for this time of year. The wave energy is weak, just a few dozen points. That’s a long stretch of nothing.
The second week doesn’t start any better. From Monday the 21st to Friday the 24th morning, it’s still tiny, with the odd 3-foot push but the wind is still cross-on and the period is short. Still weak energy. Then, on Friday the 24th morning, we finally get a pulse. The swell hits 5 feet and the wind flips to cross-off from the WSW. That’s a big deal. The energy jumps to 200 (moderate). The period is still short at 7 seconds, so it’s a bit lumpy, but the clean conditions are a win.
Saturday the 25th morning is your best early pick. You’ve got 4 feet of swell from the WSW, with a light breeze and clean conditions. The wave energy is strong at 245. It’s not huge, but for this spot, it’s a proper session. The crowds are “sometimes”, so you might see a few others, but it’s worth it. The swell direction is a bit off the optimum, but the clean wind makes it work.
Sunday the 26th morning has a strong offshore from the SSW at 30 km/h, with 4 feet of swell. It’s clean, but that wind is a fight. The 7-second period won’t help the shape. Monday the 27th is cleaner with a moderate offshore, but the swell drops to 3 feet.
The real standout is Wednesday the 29th morning. The swell is 5 feet from the West, with a light breeze and cross-off wind. The wave energy is 339 – strong. The period is 9 seconds, which is decent. The forecast says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions”, but after all this flatness, this is your best shot. It’s the biggest and cleanest window in the whole forecast. The water temp is about average for the time of year.
So, if you’re hanging out, look at the morning of Saturday the 25th for a solid session, and then the morning of Wednesday the 29th is the real deal. It’s a long way off, but that’s the one to aim for.
Rusty.
