Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Trestraou has in store for us over the next couple of weeks. I'll be straight with you – this stretch is looking pretty bleak for a paddle. We've got a long, drawn-out run of small, wind-affected conditions, and it’s going to take a while before we see anything that’s actually worth paddling out for.
The swell energy is mostly weak to moderate for the first week, hanging around in the two and three-digit range – you're looking at values like 71 (weak) jumping to 158 (moderate) by Friday, but that’s about as good as it gets for energy. The problem is, it's always coming with a cross-onshore breeze and a lot of chop. The water temp is sitting at 63°, which is about 2° warmer than average for the time of year, so it's a touch balmy but nothing too crazy.
Tuesday the 7th kicks off with tiny 2ft swell from the west at a short 8 seconds, but a cross-onshore wind makes it messy. That theme continues right through the week: a bit of a bump in size to 3ft on Wednesday and Thursday morning from the WNW with a period hitting 10 seconds, but the wind is either onshore or cross-onshore, keeping things choppy and poor. The combined energy peaks at 210 on Saturday morning the 11th – that's the strongest we see in week one – but it's attached to a stiff 16 mph cross-onshore breeze and only 2ft of swell. Not going to be pretty.
We then hit a real flat spell. Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th drop off to almost nothing – 0.7ft and 0.3ft swell – with strong breezes ruining any hope. That flatness carries on through the middle of the week.
The second week is a bit of a mixed bag, but still nothing to get excited about. There’s a glimmer on Wednesday the 22nd. By Wednesday morning, we get a light offshore wind from the southwest at 6 mph, and the swell is 1ft from the west with a 9-second period. The combined energy is still low at 28 (weak), but the wind is clean and offshore. The afternoon gets even lighter wind (3 mph from the west-southwest) and it’s cross-offshore, keeping the 2ft WNW swell clean. It’s small, and the break is inconsistent, but if you’re desperate and just want to get wet, that’s your window.
Honestly, for the 16-day outlook, there are no standouts here. The setup is more suited to a kite or windsurfer than a surfer for most of it, especially the days with fresh cross-onshore breezes and bumpy water. Keep an eye on Wednesday the 22nd for a possible small, clean session, but don't hold your breath. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a tough run.
Rusty.
