Table - best surf conditions forecast for Trestraou over the next 16 days.
Hey crew, Rusty here. Let's get real about Trestraou for the next 16 days – it's looking like a tough slog with very little to get excited about.
We've got a long, quiet start to the run, with almost no proper surf on offer. The water temp is a balmy 65°F, which is a touch warmer than average for this time of year. From now, we're staring at a big dry spell until we see a few pulses of energy around the 20th and 22nd of July, but don't get your hopes up too high.
Starting off, Thursday the 9th of July has a tiny 3ft swell from the WNW at a weak 10-second period, but a cross-onshore wind from the ENE is making it a choppy mess. Combined energy is a weak 126. It's basically a no-go. Friday and Saturday are similar junk. Saturday the 11th sees a pulse up to 5ft with a combined energy of 263, but the period drops to a terrible 6 seconds and we've got a fresh cross-onshore wind. That's just lumpy, close-out slop.
From Sunday the 12th through to the 18th of July, the swell flatlines. We're talking waves under 2ft. There's nothing to ride.
On Saturday the 18th, we get a clean-up. A 2ft west swell at 10 seconds appears, and for the morning, the wind goes cross-offshore. The energy is still weak at 66, but it would be clean. A tiny, clean wave for the desperate. That window closes fast. Sunday the 19th goes back to choppy and onshore.
The only real energy hits Monday the 20th of July. We see a 5ft to 5ft pulse of WNW swell. It's short-period windswell at 6 seconds, with a combined energy around 170 to 189. The wind is a light cross-onshore, which is the best we'll get. Because of the short period and messy nature, this wave looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. The size is borderline for beginners.
Then Wednesday the 22nd of July brings the biggest numbers of the run: 6ft to 5ft from the west, with the combined energy hitting 258 and 277. The period is still short at 7 seconds, and we have a moderate cross-shore wind. That size is only for experts. Wednesday afternoon with the cross-shore wind might be the most rideable, but it will be a powerful, lumpy wall.
Verdict? No clear standouts here. It's a flat, poor-quality run with a couple of days that offer size but with terrible period and windy conditions. The 18th is your only real chance at something clean but small. Otherwise, it’s a lean couple of weeks. Don't bother booking the time off.
Rusty.
