Shishikui Beach Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, mate, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for the coming weeks.

Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this stretch of coastline is copping a bit of a rough patch. The water temp is sitting at a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, coming in at 84°F, but don't let that fool you. The surf quality is pretty ordinary for most of the run.

The first decent window we see is a glimmer early on Wednesday the 26th of August. Shishikui Beach has some waist-high swell, around 5ft from the S, with a moderate 11-second period. The energy is moderate (843), but the wind is a cross-on from the SSW at 12 mph, which chops it up. It's a struggle, but there's a wave there for the beginners.

Honestly, after that, it's a real dry spell. From Thursday the 27th right through to the end of August, we're looking at small, weak, messy waves. The swell drops below 3ft, the periods are short, and the wind is mostly cross-onshore. It's a write-off for anyone wanting a proper surf. Saturday morning the 29th shows a bit of a glass-off with light wind, but the swell is only 3ft with a 7-second period – barely a ripple. The energy is weak (111). You'd be better off with a longboard and low expectations.

We then hit the start of September, and the energy ramps up massively. On Monday the 31st of August, we have some 4ft SSE swell, but still cross-onshore. Then Tuesday the 1st of September sees a big jump to 7ft, with a 12-second period and strong energy (1438), but it's accompanied by moderate rain and a 16 mph cross-on wind. The surf is poor. Wednesday the 2nd is even bigger – 12ft to 13ft from the SSE – but with strong winds and onshore conditions. The energy is very strong (2232 and 3172), but it's a washing machine out there. This is getting into expert-only territory, and even then, the wind is making it a mess.

The pattern continues into the second week. Thursday the 3rd of September has 8ft SSW swell with a 13-second period and strong energy (2809), but the wind is still fresh and cross-onshore. Friday the 4th of September peaks with a massive 12ft swell from the S, hitting a whopping 4197 energy, but it's too big for Shishikui Beach and the wind is still on it. Saturday the 5th drops to 7ft, but the wind is onshore again.

Looking further ahead, the best chance for something clean might be Monday the 7th of September. The swell is 6ft to 7ft from the SSE, with a light breeze that could clean things up. The period is 10-13 seconds, so there's some energy there (753-2472), but it's still marginal. Then Tuesday the 8th has a 10ft SE swell with a light breeze, but again, the guidance says it's too big for this break.

The real standout, if you're an expert, is Thursday the 10th of September. The swell is 10ft from the S with a very long 15-second period, and the energy is massive (4552). The wind is a gentle cross-on, so it might clean up a bit. But this is a serious, powerful groundswell heading straight for the beach. It's going to be a heavy, racy wave – only for the experienced crew. The big period and size will likely make it unpredictable and closing out.

So, the verdict? The first week is a wash with small, windy junk. The second week has huge, powerful swell but it's constantly battered by onshore winds. The only real nod for a session goes to the very end of the run, around the 10th of September, if you're a charger willing to deal with serious size and a bit of cross-on breeze. Otherwise, keep your board in the car and wait for a change in the forecast.
