The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a proper look at the surf for the next couple of weeks.
Looking at the whole picture, it’s a bit of a flat, windswept stretch for the most part. We’ve got a long gap at the start with pretty much nothing on offer. The first week is a write-off, to be honest. From Tuesday the 4th through to Friday the 15th, it’s all small, short-period, wind-blown slop. There’s a stretch of poor conditions with chop and lumpy seas. Even with a couple of small pulses, the onshore winds just kill it. You’d be fighting a losing battle out there.
The waves that do show are small, mostly under 3ft, and the wind is cross-onshore from the north, which is never good for a beach break. The water temp is around 67°, which is about average for this time of year, so nothing crazy there.
There is a bit of a change on the horizon. From Monday the 16th, things start to look a little more interesting. The swell starts to pick up a bit. The combined energy jumps up to 378 on Monday morning, and then it really kicks in that afternoon with a strong 862. The swell is still from the NW, but it's got more size, around 5ft to 7ft. The wind is still cross-onshore, but lighter, especially on Monday morning with a gentle breeze. That's about the best we see, although it's still not perfect. That bigger swell on Monday afternoon is getting into the too-messy territory. It's a similar story on Tuesday the 17th, with a bit of a drop in size but still some energy there.
Honestly, the pick of the bunch looks like Monday the 16th morning. It’s not a classic, but there’ll be some rideable waves and less wind mess. With the swell at 5ft and a cross-shore breeze, you might find a few corners on the inside. As for the rest, it’s mainly a cross-onshore mess, especially with that 25 mph wind on the final Wednesday. This stretch might be more interesting for the kite surfers than for paddle surfers, to be honest. It’s a pretty bleak outlook until that last stand-out session.
Stay stoked.
