Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for this stretch.
Honestly, it's a tough outlook for Almagreira. The whole 16-day window is pretty flat and frustrating. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with no real swell to get excited about. The first few days are a write-off with tiny, weak windswell that’s all churned up by onshore winds. From Tuesday morning, July 7th, right through to the end, it’s a real struggle.
You’ve got a long gap of nothing but marginal, poor surf. The best you can hope for is a brief moment on Sunday morning, July 12th, when the wind goes glassy. But even then, the swell is a tiny 2 ft from the W with a short period of 8 seconds, giving weak combined energy (48). It’s rideable for a beginner on a foamie, but there's no power or push. For the rest, it’s mostly onshore winds and ankle-biters.
Later on, around Sunday, July 19th, there's a slight uptick with a 3 ft WNW swell, but the wind is up at 15 mph from the NNW and cross-onshore in the afternoon. That’s going to chop it up and make it a messy, blown-out affair. The combined energy does hit 76, which is something, but the quality just isn’t there for a good paddle. The setup here, being a fairly exposed beach, looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing when the wind is up like that.
Bottom line: There’s no standout period. Nothing is worth a special trip. It’s one of those blank runs that happens here, so don't hold your breath. Forecasts can change, but right now, save the wax.
