The Lowdown

Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on the menu for Sagone over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be straight with you – it’s a quiet start and we’ve got a long stretch of nothing much to get excited about.

From now through the morning of the 25th of September, it’s basically a write-off. We’ve got days with no swell to speak of, and lots of onshore or cross-onshore wind messing things up. There’s a healthy patch of glassy mornings from the 21st onwards, but with zero swell, it’s just a flat calm. You’re looking at a solid ten to eleven day gap where you’re better off doing something else.

Then, things finally start to wake up. Friday morning, the 25th of September, we get a little pulse of swell from the SSW, coming in at 3 ft with a period of 8 seconds. The combined swell energy is a modest 127, so it's not going to rock your world. The wind is light and cross-offshore from the East, which will keep it clean at this beach and point setup. It’s surfable, but nothing more than a knee-high runner to get wet on.

After a bit of a dip, Sunday the 27th of September morning is the clear standout. We’ve got a proper SSW groundswell arriving, 6 ft and a solid 10 second period. The combined energy jumps right up to 518, which is a solid wave with some push. The wind is light from the East, cross-offshore, which will leave the face clean and lined up. This is the best session on offer for an intermediate crowd – it’s got enough power to be fun but won’t be too much. It’s a touch under 7 ft, so it’s not just for the hardcore. Keep in mind, this is a week and a half away, but it looks promising.

The afternoon gets a bit bigger, with 7 ft from the same direction, and energy up to 815, but the wind swings cross-on from the West, making it choppier and less appealing. That morning is the one to circle.

Monday the 28th fades back to small, weak dribble.

So, the one true standout here is the morning of Sunday the 27th of September. Get it if you can. Water temp on the first day we had any data was 81°, which is a whopping 8° warmer than normal for this time of year – practically bathwater.

Rusty.
