Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rimmers Road over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. We’ve got a solid run of swell coming our way, but it’s not for everyone. The early part of the period is all about heavy, powerful groundswell that’s going to be way too much for the average punter. Keep your eyes peeled for a few windows of cleaner, more manageable surf, especially if you're an experienced hand.
The first real action kicks off Thursday morning, July 9th, and it’s a beast. Rimmers Road is getting hammered by a massive 13ft SW groundswell, with a long 16-second period. The combined wave energy is huge at 14366, so this is a serious, powerful ocean. The morning has a cross-off breeze keeping things clean, but honestly, this is only for the absolute elite. It’s simply too big for anyone else. The water temp is a pretty normal 59° for this time of year.
Things remain way too big through Thursday afternoon and into Friday, July 10th. Friday morning drops slightly to 6ft, but with a crazy 18-second period and a cross-shore wind, it’s a messy, powerful beast. Friday afternoon sees a return to a 10ft SW swell, still too big and with a side-shore breeze.
Now, here’s where the standout window opens. Saturday, July 11th, is the pick of the week. The swell drops to a still-chunky 7ft from the SW, but with a clean offshore ESE breeze at 6 mph, it’s going to be glassy. The combined energy is still a strong 2741. This is "excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers" – a real treat for those who can handle it. Sunday morning, July 12th, is also a beauty with a 7ft SW swell and clean offshore ENE wind.
We get a bit of a breather on Monday, July 13th, with a smaller 5ft swell, but the wind swings onshore in the afternoon, turning it choppy. Tuesday, July 14th, is small and mushy, best to give it a miss.
The surf picks up again mid-week, but the quality is questionable. By Thursday, July 16th, we’re looking at another solid 8ft SW groundswell. The morning has a clean cross-off breeze, making it a good option for the experienced crew again.
The absolute standout for the coming days, though, is Friday, July 17th. The afternoon session is looking magic. A 6ft WSW groundswell, clean lines, and the wind goes glassy. That’s the kind of session you wait for. The wave energy is still a solid 1428. Mark it in your calendar.
The following week, from July 18th onward, the swell drops off significantly. You’ll find cleaner, smaller waves in the 3ft to 4ft range, but the wind is going to be howling from the east. It’ll be clean, but it’s going to be a battle. That strong offshore breeze (28 mph on the Monday!) will make paddling out and holding your position really tough. It’s more of a kite-surfing setup than a relaxing paddle session.
Then, around July 23rd, another big pulse of swell arrives, but it’s short-period, wind-affected junk. By July 24th, we’re back to enormous 12ft SW groundswell with very long periods. It’s clean, but it's a monster. That’s for the big-wave chargers only.
So, to wrap it up: the best on offer is the Saturday, July 11th morning session for the clean, powerful swell, and the glassy Friday afternoon, July 17th, for the best all-round conditions. Get out there if you’re keen.
Rusty.
