Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Rimmers Road over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’ve got some serious size coming in. This spot is exposed to a south-west swell, and it’s going to be a wild ride for a few days. The water temp is sitting about average for this time of year at 58.6°, so nothing unusual there.
We kick off on Monday, July 6th, but it’s not really a goer for the average punter. The morning sees an 8.2 ft swell from the WSW, period 14 seconds, but it’s blowing a fresh 19 mph northerly. That’s a cross-off wind, so it might look clean, but the wave energy is pumping at 3856 (moderate to strong). It’s just a bit messy and the score’s not there. By the afternoon, it jumps to a solid 13.1 ft from the west (13 seconds), and the energy is a proper 7232 (strong). That’s too big for this break. This is for experts only, and even then, it’s a beast.
Tuesday the 7th is more of the same. Morning has an 11.5 ft WSW swell, 16-second period – that’s a long period groundswell, which will have heaps of juice but can be hard to manage. Winds are cross-off from the ESE at 12 mph. The energy is 5747 (strong). Too big for most. The afternoon drops a touch to 9.8 ft, but it’s still a 16-second swell with offshore east winds at 16 mph. Looks clean, but again, it’s expert territory.
Wednesday the 8th sees the swell ease to a still-chunky 8.2 ft from the SW, 14-second period. The morning has light SSW winds, 9 mph, with a cross-shore chop. Energy sits at 2408 (moderate). The afternoon gets lumpy with a fresh 19 mph SSW wind. It’s just not that special, honestly.
Now, here’s where it starts to get interesting. Thursday the 9th morning: the swell drops to 8.2 ft (SW, 11 seconds), but the wind is a light SSE at 6 mph, and it’s cross-off. That’s clean. And the energy is 2504 (moderate). This is actually a good window for experienced surfers. The afternoon is a bit smaller at 7.5 ft, but the cross-shore wind picks up. Stick to the morning.
Friday the 10th is another big one. Morning has a 9.8 ft SW swell with a 14-second period, clean as a whistle with light SSE winds at 9 mph. But it’s just too big for the break. The energy is a massive 7338 (very strong). Same story in the afternoon. This one is for the big-wave crew only.
After that stretch, things settle down nicely. Saturday the 11th is a beauty. Morning swell is 5.9 ft from the SW, with a nice 16-second period. Light SE winds at 6 mph, cross-off. Energy is 1972 (moderate). This is excellent for experienced surfers. The afternoon is even smaller at 5.6 ft, glassy conditions with a light breeze. This is the sweet spot of the first week.
Sunday the 12th keeps it clean. Morning sees a 6.9 ft SW swell, 16-second period, with light east winds at 6 mph blowing offshore. Energy is 2270 (moderate). Afternoon is a touch smaller at 6.2 ft, WSW, 16 seconds, and cross-off winds. Both sessions are excellent.
The standout of the whole 16 days? That’s Monday the 13th. Morning has a 4.9 ft swell from the WSW, 14 seconds, and it is glassy. Winds are from the ENE at just 3 mph. The water will be like a mirror. Energy is 947 (moderate). This is the best of the best – clean, consistent, and a perfect size for a proper session. The afternoon is equally glassy at 4.6 ft. This is the one to circle.
After that, the swell fades quickly. Tuesday the 14th drops to 3.6 ft in the morning (SW, 13 seconds), and by the afternoon it’s under 3 ft. Wednesday the 15th is a write-off with strong winds and rain – that 2.9 ft swell is not worth the drive. There’s a gap of poor to marginal conditions from the 15th through the morning of the 17th.
Then, things fire back up.
