Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rimmers Road over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
We’ve got a solid run of surf on the horizon at Rimmers Road, but you’re gonna need to pick your moments. The week kicks off with a big, powerful groundswell, but it’s got a bit of a wild side to it. The water temp is sitting at 58.5°F, which is pretty much what you’d expect for this time of year, nothing weird going on there.
Sunday morning (12 July) is where it’s at. We’re looking at a clean 7.2ft SW groundswell with a 16-second period. That’s a long period, meaning plenty of energy and nice, lined-up waves. The combined energy is a hefty 2320, so it’s got some punch. And the wind is light offshore from the ENE at 3 mph. That’s the dream. This is the standout, no question. It’s a little beefy for beginners, but for the experienced crew, it’s going to be firing. The afternoon goes glassy with a 6.6ft WSW swell, but the wind turns light and variable, so it’ll stay clean.
Monday (13 July) holds up nicely. The morning has a 4.9ft WSW swell with a 14-second period and a clean cross-offshore breeze from the NNE at 9 mph. The energy is still solid at 952. The afternoon gets a bit cross-on, so it’ll get a little choppy.
Tuesday (14 July) is a bit of a mixed bag. The morning jumps up to 7.2ft from the WNW, but the period drops to just 8 seconds. That’s a short-period, wind-affected swell, and with a cross-shore wind, it’s going to be a bit of a mess. The energy is 1400, but it’s not the good kind. The afternoon is smaller and choppy.
Wednesday (15 July) sees the swell rise again, but the wind is cross-on. The morning is a 5.6ft WSW swell with an 18-second period – that’s a very long period, so it’ll have heaps of push and long lulls. The energy is huge at 2887. But the cross-on wind will mess it up a bit. The afternoon gets way too big at 9.8ft. That’s expert territory, and with the cross-on wind, it’s just a big, lumpy mess. Not worth it for a paddle.
Thursday (16 July) is still big. The morning has 9.8ft WSW swell with a 16-second period, and the wind is light cross-on, so it’s still a big, powerful, but messy wave. The energy is 4014. The afternoon drops a touch to 8.2ft, but the wind swings to a moderate cross-shore. It’s a tough one.
Friday (17 July) stays solid with 7.9ft to 7.2ft WSW swell, but the wind is cross-on both sessions. The energy is still high, but the quality is marginal.
Saturday (18 July) is similar. 8.2ft SW swell, cross-on wind. The afternoon has a lighter breeze, which might clean it up a little, but it’s still a big, powerful wave.
Sunday (19 July) is interesting. The morning has a massive 9.8ft SW groundswell with a 16-second period and a clean offshore wind from the ENE at 12 mph. The energy is 4314. That’s a huge amount of power. But it’s too big for this break. Only for the absolute top-end experts. The afternoon drops to 8.2ft but the wind turns cross-off, so it’ll be cleaner.
Monday (20 July) looks good. The morning has a 6.6ft WSW swell with a 14-second period and a light cross-offshore breeze. The energy is 1689. The conditions are clean. This is a solid option.
Tuesday (21 July) is small but clean. The morning has 5.2ft SW swell with a 13-second period and a moderate offshore wind from the ESE at 12 mph. The energy is 992. The afternoon is even smaller at 4.6ft but still offshore. Good for a longboard or a funboard.
From Wednesday (22 July) through to Saturday (25 July) the swell ebbs and flows. The 22nd and 23rd are small and clean, with offshore winds. The 24th jumps back up to a solid 5.6ft to 6.6ft WSW swell with clean winds – that’s a good day. The 25th sees a drop in period again, and a big 9.8ft W swell on the Saturday afternoon that’s too big and messy.
Sunday (26 July) fades to tiny 2.0ft and 2.3ft, and then Monday (27 July) brings a strong, onshore wind with 4.6ft to 5.2ft swell. That’s a write-off. The combined energy is still 1400+, but with a 16 mph onshore wind, it’s choppy and horrible.
The best bet is Sunday morning (12 July) – that’s your leader. The energy, the direction, the wind, it’s all there. Monday morning (20 July) is a solid backup. For the rest, you’ll be working for it.
