Alright, this is Rusty comin’ at ya with a look at what’s cookin’ for Rimmers Road. The next week or so has some real potential, but we gotta play the patience game and pick our moments. It’s a beginner-friendly spot that’s very consistent, and exposed to the SW, so when it lines up, it’s on.
The water’s sittin’ at about 59°, which is pretty much dead average for this time of year, so nothin’ wild to report there.
Okay, let’s run through it. Saturday the 11th kicks off with a clean morning, cross-off breeze from the SE at 6 mph, and a solid 6-ft WSW groundswell with a very long 16-second period. That’s a lot of energy punchin’ in (2269), but it’s a bit much for beginners at that size. Still, for the experienced crew, it’s prime. The afternoon goes a bit wonky with a cross-shore wind, so it’s not the pick.
Now, Sunday the 12th is where my eyes light up. Glassy conditions in the afternoon with that clean 7-ft WSW swell still holding that long 16-second period. The morning has a light offshore from the ENE at just 3 mph, keeping things clean too. This is a standout – clean, solid, and with that long-period energy, the point setup at Rimmers Road should be linkin’ up nicely. Moderate wave energy here (1931 in the arvo), but it’s quality stuff. Just be mindful it’s a beginner break and the swell’s over 5-ft, so it’s gettin’ sporty.
Monday the 13th drops off a bit to a smaller 5-ft swell but stays clean with light cross-off breezes. Still a fun day for the experienced surfers, but not the top pick.
We hit a bit of a lull Tuesday the 14th – messy onshore wind and weak, short-period junk. Not worth paddlin’ out.
Wednesday the 15th is a strange one. The morning brings a clean 5-ft groundswell with a massive 19-second period (2727 energy), but the wind is cross-shore. It’s rideable, but there’s a catch. The afternoon sees the swell jump to a heavy 10-ft, but the notes say it’s too big for this break. That’s a hard pass for the average surfer.
Thursday the 16th morning is glassy again, but with a massive 10-ft SW swell (3913 energy). Clean as a whistle, but again, this is expert-only territory at that size – definitely too big for the beginners this spot usually suits.
From Friday the 17th through Tuesday the 22nd, we see a slow downward trend in size, but the wind stays favorable – mostly offshore or clean sideshore. The mornings of Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st look good with 6-ft to 5-ft SW swells and gentle offshore winds. Solid, clean waves for the experienced crew, but not the big standouts.
Wednesday the 22nd has some smaller, cleaner 5-ft stuff, but the energy is droppin’ off (874 in the morning). Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th are flat and wind-affected – not worth a look.
Then, right at the tail end on Saturday the 25th, we get a late pulse. A clean 7-ft WSW groundswell with a 16-second period, with a moderate offshore wind. That 2128 energy reading says we’ve got a proper groundswell on the way. It’s a promising long-range call, but keep an eye on it. The following Sunday the 26th is bigger but with cross-off winds, so it’s not as clean.
So, bottom line: if you’re experienced, the standout window is Sunday the 12th, especially the glassy afternoon. The second standout is Saturday the 25th – that’s a promising long-range hit of solid, clean surf. For beginners, keep an eye on the cleaner, smaller days around Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st.
Rusty, out.
