Table - best surf conditions forecast for Red Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s look at Red Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, the outlook is pretty grim. We’ve got a long stretch of tiny, weak, and often messy surf. For the first week and a half, there’s nothing that’s really worth getting wet for. The energy just isn't there to make anything worth paddling out into.
We start the forecast period on Saturday, July 11, but it's a non-starter. The swell is a weak 3 ft from the east with a 10-second period, but the combined energy is a low 125 (moderate) and the wind is a cross-shore. The conditions are described as poor.
Sunday the 12th through to the next Thursday, the 16th, is a real struggle. Swell heights barely nudge above 2 ft, the combined swell energy drops away to a very weak 42 (weak) at its best, and the swell periods are short. There’s a couple of glassy mornings, but the waves are just too small. At least on Tuesday morning the 14th, we get a little 3 ft from the north with clean offshore winds, but it’s a desperate 5-second period and the wave quality is still “very ordinary.”
Finally, on Friday the 17th, things look a touch better. The swell is still only 1 ft but we get a very long period groundswell of 16 seconds out of the east-northeast. The combined energy climbs to 100 (moderate) and the morning has clean offshore winds. It's not big, but that long period will produce an occasional set with some shape. The same goes for Saturday the 18th with a similar setup. The water temperature is about average for the time of year.
Then we get a spike on Sunday, July 19. The swell jumps to 4 ft from the east with an 8-second period and the combined energy rockets up to 428 (moderate). But the wind is a strong cross-onshore at 16 mph, making it a choppy, messy mess. This is a classic case of significant swell and poor quality. This is the one day where the conditions are better suited to a kite surfer than someone on a paddleboard.
After that, from Monday the 20th onwards, it fades back into tiny, weak, and generally onshore or cross-shore conditions for the rest of the 16-day window. The breaks are very inconsistent, and there’s just no decent window of surf on offer.
It’s a rough run, but the surf usually picks up again at some point.
Rusty.
