Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here, your local surf reporter for Red Beach. Look, I’m gonna be straight with you—this 16-day window is a real battle. The finder’s come up empty, no standout options, so we’re working with what we’ve got. The guidance lists Red Beach as a beginner spot that’s inconsistent, mostly exposed to the north-east, and crowds can pop up sometimes. The water’s sitting at 59°F, which is pretty much normal for the time of year, no big anomaly there.
Right now, there’s no surf worth paddling out for. The first few days are a write-off. Monday the 6th of July has a messy 5ft north swell with a short 7-second period, but the wind is a cross-shore from the north at 12 mph, and the combined energy is only 279—moderate, but it’s all chop and no shape. Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th are just as grim, with poor conditions and scores that don’t even hit the board. We’ve got a gap of about 10 days where the surf is flat or junk.
Friday the 10th of July afternoon shows a little flicker: a 3ft east swell, 9-second period, and the wind is cross-off from the south at 9 mph, giving us clean waves. Combined energy is 182 (moderate). It’s surfable, but ordinary—nothing to get excited about.
Now, the real standout pops up on Monday the 21st of July morning. Red Beach finally gets a decent look: a 3ft north-east swell, 10-second period, with light cross-off wind from the southwest at 6 mph, making for clean conditions. The combined energy is 352 (moderate), and the forecast says “expect good surf conditions.” This is the best on offer. The swell direction (NE) matches the optimum swell direction, so it’s punching right into the break. Keep in mind though, this spot is inconsistent, so it’s a rare treat. The afternoon of the same day sees a 7ft north swell with a short 7-second period, but wind turns cross-on, making it chunky—only for the experienced crew.
Overall, it’s a long wait with a lot of flat days, but that Monday morning on the 21st is your window. Don’t hold your breath for the rest.
