Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G'day, Rusty here. Look, it’s a tough stretch for Red Beach over the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a long run of nothing special, with only a handful of mornings offering a little something to get wet on.
We’re looking at a pretty bleak start. The first real chance to paddle out isn’t until Friday, July 5th. The morning of Friday the 5th has surfable but very ordinary conditions, with weak swell energy (204) coming from the east at 3ft, 11-second period. The wind is a light cross-offshore breeze from the NNW, keeping it clean, but the waves are small and gutless. The afternoon is much the same—3ft east swell (179) and clean again, but still very ordinary. Crowds are possible here.
The next decent window shows up on Wednesday morning, July 10th. It’s another small day with east swell at 2ft, but the period stretches to 11 seconds (84 energy). The wind is a light cross-offshore from the SSW, so the surface will be clean. Again, small and ordinary, not a standout.
We get a glimpse of glassy conditions on Monday morning, July 15th, but the swell is tiny at 2ft, period 13 seconds (88 energy), and it’s just surfable. Pretty frustrating.
Later on, looking way out to Wednesday, July 17th, there’s a bit more size. The morning shows an east-northeast swell at 6ft, but it’s a short-period 6-second windswell (209 energy), and the wind is a moderate cross-shore from the NNE. It’s poor, choppy, and messy—not worth a paddle. The afternoon jumps to 7ft east swell (433 energy), but with a fresh onshore 30 km/h wind from the NNE, it’ll be lumpy and blown out. This setup is more interesting for the kite crew than us paddle surfers.
Friday morning, July 19th, we get a slight bump with an east swell at 3ft, 9-second period (102 energy), but the cross-onshore wind doesn’t help.
The standout, if you can call it that, is probably Wednesday morning, July 10th. It’s the cleanest of a poor lot, with that light cross-offshore wind and a touch of period, but don’t expect much. There’s a gap of several days with no recommendations from the start of the forecast until Friday the 5th.
Water temperature sits around 59°F, which is about normal for this time of year.
Keep it sandy,
Rusty.
