Table - best surf conditions forecast for Red Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, I’m looking at the 16-day picture for the area, and to be honest, it’s a pretty bleak run for most of it. The swell is tiny and the wind is often working against us. There’s a big gap of nothing really worth paddling out for from the start until the end of the third week, so we’re talking over a week of flat or poor conditions. Then things get a little more interesting, but it’s not a classic Red Beach session by any stretch.
Red Beach is the only spot on the cards. It’s exposed to the northeast for swell, which is handy, but it’s inconsistent and best for the beginners out there. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, so no need to stress about a thick wetsuit.
The first real chance to wet a line comes on Friday, July 17th in the morning. We’ve got a tiny 1 ft swell from the east-northeast, but what makes it interesting is the period – a solid 17 seconds. That’s proper groundswell energy, and with a light offshore breeze, it’ll be clean. The energy is moderate (98), so it’s not pumping, but it’s the standout of the early period. The swell is small, so it’s fine for learners.
From there, it’s a desert until Monday, July 20th afternoon. The swell jumps to 7 ft from the east, but the period drops to a short, weak 7 seconds, and it’s cross-onshore. The energy is moderate (378), but the quality is poor. This setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer, honestly.
The real highlight, if you can call it that, is Monday, July 27th in the morning. We get a 6 ft swell from the north at 7 seconds. The wind is light and cross-shore, so it’s clean. The energy is moderate (358). This is the biggest swell of the period, but it’s short-period and a bit messy. It’s still the best on offer, but it’s a novice-to-intermediate wave at best. The crowd situation is likely to be a factor, as it’s a popular spot when there’s any size.
So, to sum it up: the first week and a half are a write-off. The best windows are the morning of July 17th for a tiny, clean groundswell and the morning of July 27th for the biggest, but sloppier, swell. Keep your expectations low.
