Table - best surf conditions forecast for Red Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s cookin’ at Red Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it’s a pretty bleak start. The first few days are a total washout, with messy onshore winds and weak, short-period swell. You’re lookin’ at a solid gap of poor surf with no real recommendations until we get a bit further into the run. The water temp is sittin’ around 59°, which is about normal for this time of year, so nothin’ weird there.
Now, the first real glimmer of hope shows up on Tuesday morning, July 14th. The wind swings offshore from the West, cleanin’ things up. We’ve got a small pulse of swell from the North at 4ft, but it’s a short-period windswell, so it’s gonna be a bit soft and lumpy. The combined energy is moderate (185), so there’s a little bit of push, but don’t expect any quality. It’s a beginner-friendly size, but the conditions are just “ordinary.” It’s worth a look if you’re desperate, but I wouldn’t get too excited.
The window opens a bit more on Saturday afternoon, July 18th. This is where things get interesting. The wind goes glassy, the swell bumps up to 7ft from the ENE, and the combined energy jumps to strong (292). The period is still short (6 seconds), so it’s a bit of a jumbled windswell, but those glassy conditions will make it rideable. The size is startin’ to push into that intermediate-to-expert zone, so beginners might find it a bit of a handful.
But the real standout, the one you want to circle on your calendar, is Sunday afternoon, July 19th. A proper swell shows up – 12ft from the NE with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is massive (1251). This is a big, powerful swell. The problem is, the file says it’s predicted to be too big for this break. The wind is onshore from the ENE, which is a bit of a bummer, but the sheer size and energy will be a sight to behold. This is strictly for experts only. The period is just under that groundswell threshold, so it’s not the cleanest, but it’ll have plenty of grunt. If you’re a seasoned local, this is the best the forecast has to offer, but expect it to be a wild, beastly session.
After that, the swell winds down. Monday, July 20th is a total write-off with strong onshore winds and huge, messy 13ft swell. The rest of the second week sees the swell drop back to smaller, cleaner conditions, but nothin’ that really jumps out as a winner. The Wednesday afternoon, July 22nd has a glassy 3ft from the ENE (324 combined energy), which could be a nice, playful session for a longboard, but it’s not a standout.
Overall, the only real standout in this 16-day window is that Sunday afternoon, July 19th for the big-wave crew. The rest is a waitin’ game. Keep an eye on the charts, but for now, don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
