Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let's break down the local forecast.
First off, I’ve got to be honest. We’re looking at a long stretch of quiet water. There’s no real surf to speak of until Thursday, July 16th. That's more than a week of flat, small, or just plain messy conditions. Water temp is around 59°F, which is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
For now, we’re stuck with Red Beach. The best of a bad lot will be on Sunday, July 5th in the morning. The swell is a tiny 3ft from the east with an 11-second period, and a light offshore wind from the west-northwest will keep it clean. The wave energy is weak (249), so it’s just a small, clean little wave for a longboard or a soft top. It’s surfable, but not going to get your heart pumping. Monday, July 6th morning has a little more size at 5ft from the north-northwest, but the period is only 7 seconds, so it’s a weak windswell. It’ll be clean with a cross-offshore breeze, but still not great. After that, most days are blown out, too onshore, or just too small to care about. You’ll see a lot of days with poor surf conditions.
Now, the one pulse that stands out is far off. On Thursday, July 16th afternoon, we get a push of windswell from the north at 7ft. The wave energy is strong (512), but the period is a short 7 seconds, so it’ll be lumpy. The wind will be a strong cross-onshore from the northeast at 28 mph, making it messy and choppy. That’s strictly for experts, and honestly, with that wind, it’s more of a kite-surfing day than a paddle-surfing one. The morning of the 16th is a bit smaller at 7ft from the north, but still with a howling 22 mph cross-onshore wind. Not quality stuff.
So, to put it plain: there’s a long dry spell until mid-July, and when the size finally shows up, the wind ruins it. There’s no clear winner here. Keep your eyes peeled, because in these quiet periods, things can turn around fast.
