The Lowdown
Alright, I’m Rusty, and here’s the deal for the next couple of weeks.
Saturday the 18th is a total dud – tiny 2ft to 2ft SW swell with nothing going on. You’ll be waiting until Sunday the 19th morning for the first real shot. That morning it’s a tiny 2ft SW swell, but the wind is glassy, which is a huge plus. The water is a very warm 89° – that’s much warmer than usual for this time of year, so it’s comfortable.
The big standout starts Monday the 20th morning. Clean conditions with a 3ft SW groundswell, a 16-second period, and light offshore wind from the NE. The combined energy reads 405 (moderate). This is a perfect match for the optimum WNW swell direction at Burros (reef). The crowd is only *sometimes* a problem. That morning is your best session.
Tuesday the 21st morning is also clean with a 3ft SW swell and 15-second period. Good. But the afternoon gets choppy.
Friday the 24th morning is another highlight. The swell is only 2ft, but the period is a very long 24 seconds, with offshore wind. The energy reading is 391 (moderate). A nice little groundswell at the reef.
The absolute best is Tuesday the 28th morning. The swell bumps up to 4ft from the SW, with a 17-second period, clean offshore wind from the ENE, and a combined energy of 752 (strong). The forecast says “very good surf conditions.” That’s the morning to plan for.
After that, the surf stays fun but smaller, with clean, surfable waves into the start of August. Nothing beats that Tuesday the 28th.
The long-period swells (15-24 seconds) at this reef break will give you great shape and energy, but the sets will be spaced out, making the paddle out easier. The offshore and glassy mornings are your best bets.
Rusty.
