The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here, let's talk about what's coming up for the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, it's a pretty grim run. The first week and a half are a write-off. We've got a long stretch from now all the way through to the 16th of August where the conditions just don't want to line up. The wind is messy, the swell is small and weak, and even when there's a little bump, it's ruined by a strong cross-onshore breeze. We're talking about combined wave energy figures in the low double digits and single digits for most of that time—just not enough oomph to push anything rideable.

There is one small window on the 15th of August, Saturday morning, where the wind finally clocks offshore at Pointe aux Oies. That's a reef break that's inconsistent and mainly for beginners, so you'd need some luck to get a wave. The swell will be a tiny 2.0ft from the WSW with a short period, so you're looking at weak, crumbly waves. The water temperature is a whopping 3.9° warmer than average, so it's much warmer than normal for this time of year, but that's about the only bright spot.

The real standout, if you can wait, is Tuesday the 18th of August. We get a proper pulse of energy rolling in. The swell jumps to 8.2ft from the WSW, and the combined energy is a hefty 705—that’s proper power. The wind is a clean cross-offshore from the NNE, so it’ll be groomed. Now, at over 8.0ft, this is strictly for experienced surfers only. It’s a big, powerful groundswell, and at a reef break like Pointe aux Oies, that’s going to mean some heavy, critical waves. If you’ve got the skills and the bottle, this is the only day worth paddling out for the whole forecast. The morning of the 19th is still okay with 3.6ft and clean winds, but it's a definite step down.

Short Range Forecast

Mostly dry. Warm (max 22°C on Tue afternoon, min 15°C on Thu morning). Winds decreasing (strong winds from the SW on Wed afternoon, calm by Thu night).

Days 5-7 Weather Summary

Mostly dry. Warm (max 28°C on Sun night, min 18°C on Fri night). Wind will be generally light.
