The Lowdown
Alright mate, Rusty here. Let’s break it down.
We’ve got a solid run of surf coming up at Point Addis, a reef setup that’s exposed to the SW. The water’s sitting at 56°F, which is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The week kicks off on Monday the 24th of August with a clean 4ft SSW swell, 14-second period, and a light cross-offshore breeze. The energy’s moderate at 554, and the waves are looking really tidy. Monday afternoon drops a fraction to 3ft but stays clean with a slight air. That’s a nice start.
Tuesday the 25th starts messy with easterly wind and rain, but the afternoon turns it around. The swell pushes 4ft from the SW, 13 seconds, with a cross-offshore wind and 505 energy. Clean, workable waves.
Wednesday the 26th is a write-off. The morning is chopped out, and the arvo pumps up to 5ft but with a strong onshore wind and a massive 1286 energy reading – messy and powerful, better left for the kites.
Thursday the 27th brings a reset. Morning has clean 3ft waves with light offshore wind, and the afternoon goes glassy with 2ft. Small but fun if you’re on the right board.
Friday the 28th is where it gets interesting. The morning has 3ft of SW groundswell, but the period is 18 seconds – that’s very long. It’ll be a bit too straight for the beach but at a reef like Point Addis, it’ll set up nicely. Light offshore wind, clean. The afternoon goes glassy again with 4ft and a 16-second period, 706 energy. This is a standout session.
Saturday the 29th starts glassy with 3ft, 14-second swell, but the afternoon turns onshore and messy. Get in early.
Sunday the 30th is another glassy morning with 2ft, 18-second period – again, that long period will be clean at the reef. The afternoon builds to 4ft but with onshore wind, so early is the call.
Now, here’s the big one. Monday the 31st of August. Morning: 6ft SW, 17-second period, offshore wind, and a huge 1717 energy reading. This is excellent for experienced surfers. The afternoon holds at 5ft, 16 seconds, clean. This is the best on offer across the whole forecast – a proper reef grind.
Into the first week of September, the quality stays high. Tuesday the 1st and Wednesday the 2nd both have clean 4ft to 3ft SW swell, with offshore winds. Wednesday afternoon jumps to 4ft with a 16-second period and 1050 energy – excellent for those who know what they’re doing.
Thursday the 3rd drops back to 3ft, but still offshore and clean. Friday the 4th builds again: the afternoon hits 6ft from the WSW, 16 seconds, 2383 energy, with offshore wind. Another expert session.
Saturday the 5th stays clean with 4ft, and then Sunday the 6th gets windy. The morning is 4ft but with 30 km/h cross-offshore wind, not great. The afternoon has 5ft, 16 seconds, with fresh offshore wind – marginal but rideable if you’re keen.
Monday the 7th and Tuesday the 8th of September are windy and small, 2ft to 4ft, with fresh offshore winds. The conditions are clean but the energy is low, and the waves are a bit weak. Still, you could get a few if you’re desperate.
Overall, the standout is Monday the 31st of August – big, clean, long-period SW groundswell. Friday the 4th of September afternoon is another cracker. Get on it.
Rusty out.
