Table - best surf conditions forecast for Point Addis over the next 16 days.
G'day, Rusty here. Lookin' at the next couple of weeks, we've got a solid run of swell at Point Addis, but it's gonna be a bit of a mixed bag with the wind. It's a reef break, exposed to the SW, so it grabs a lot of that southerly ocean energy. The water is sitting at 57°, which is about average for this time of year, so nothing wild there.
The week kicks off proper on Thursday, July 9th. The afternoon sees a small 3ft SW swell rollin' in, but it's a cross-on breeze and the energy is weak (493). It's a bit marginal, and the crowds can be around sometimes, so it's a bit of a look-see. Friday the 10th morning is a better call. We've got a clean 3ft SW groundswell (period 15 secs) with a light N wind that's cross-off, keepin' the surface clean. The energy is moderate (421). It's not huge, but it'll be tidy.
The weekend is a write-off. Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th are blown out with strong, gusty winds from the N and W. The swell jumps up to 10ft on Sunday afternoon (combined energy of 4738), but with a 30 km/h W wind, it's gonna be a messy, blown-out mess. That's expert territory size-wise, but the wind will ruin it. Kite surfers might be havin' a ball, but for us paddle surfers, it's a hard pass.
We get a bit of a reprieve on Monday the 13th. The morning brings a solid 6ft SW groundswell (period 16 secs) with a fresh NW wind blowin' offshore. It's clean, but the energy is strong (2355). It's a solid size, okay for experienced surfers, but the wind is fresh. Tuesday the 14th morning is the standout for the first week. A solid 8ft SW groundswell (period 16 secs) with a moderate W cross-off breeze. The energy is very strong (3469). This is a big, powerful swell for the reef, and it'll be clean. This one is for the experienced crew only.
The middle of the week sees the swell ease back. Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th have smaller, cleaner waves in the 4ft to 5ft range with light winds, good for a session if you're keen. Friday the 17th morning is another nice one: a clean 4ft SW groundswell (period 16 secs) with a light offshore NNW wind (energy of 832). That's a fun, user-friendly surf.
The second week quiets right down. The swell drops to under 3ft from Saturday the 18th through to Tuesday the 21st, with strong winds on the 20th and 21st. It's a bit of a lull, and the energy is low (down to 76).
Now, have a look at the end of the window. Wednesday the 22nd of July morning looks promising again with a clean 3ft SSW groundswell (period 16 secs) and a gentle offshore. But the real standout is Thursday the 23rd of July. The morning and afternoon both have a clean 6ft SSW groundswell. The morning has a light W cross-off wind, and the afternoon is glassy! The energy is very strong (2234 and 2229). This is a cracking, clean SSW groundswell for the point. The period is a long 17-18 seconds, which means it'll have plenty of punch and shape on the reef. That Thursday afternoon, with the glassy conditions, is the pick of the entire forecast. The crowds are sometimes around, but on a day like that, it'll be worth sharing the lineup.
Friday the 24th of July still has a solid 6ft swell but the period drops to 10 seconds, and the wind goes cross-shore, so not as clean.
So, for the best score, pencil in Thursday the 23rd of July. The glassy conditions and the strong, long-period SSW groundswell are hard to beat.
Rusty.
