Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cooking for Point Addis.
Right off the bat, this forecast is a bit of a mixed bag. The real action is a big pulse of SW groundswell that moves in over the first few days, but the wind is going to be our main talking point. The water temp is sitting at 58°F, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, nothing to complain about there.
Friday morning, July 3rd, kicks off with a solid 8ft SW swell, period 16 seconds – that's proper groundswell with some serious energy (2645). The wind is a cross-off from the W at 22 mph, which will keep the surface clean, but that's one heck of a breeze. By Friday afternoon, it's full-on building. We're looking at 12ft SW swell, still with that long 16 second period, and the combined energy is enormous (9209). Wind backs slightly to WSW at 16 mph, still cross-off. This is big, powerful, and only for experienced surfers. If you're not comfortable in solid, heavy reef waves, give this one a miss. The consistent NW offshore wind here is a massive plus, but 12ft is not messing around.
Saturday maintains that 12ft SW swell in the morning, 13 second period, still plenty of punch (4839). Wind is 12 mph from the WSW, keeping it clean. The afternoon sees the swell ease to 8ft, but the wind swings SW, putting a cross-shore chop on the face. It's still surfable but nowhere near as clean as the morning.
Now, here's where it gets interesting. Sunday, July 5th, is a write-off. That long-period SSW swell is big (8ft, 17 seconds), but the wind is onshore from the SE at 12 mph. The result is poor, blown-out conditions. Don't even bother.
Monday, July 6th, things calm down. The swell drops to 4ft from the SSW, period 14 seconds, with energy dropping off (766). The wind is light from the N at 6 mph, giving us clean, cross-off conditions. This is the window for the everyday surfer. It’s small but clean.
From Tuesday, July 7th, right through to the end of the second week, the swell gets small. We're stuck with 3ft to 4ft SW groundswell. There are a few windows of clean conditions, like Friday evening, July 10th, when the wind goes glassy, and the swell is a tiny 3ft. These are longboard or mid-length days. The energy is weak, often under 500, so don't expect any punch.
There is one more big pulse that shows up. Tuesday afternoon, July 14th, the swell jumps back to 12ft from the SSW, period 15 seconds. The energy is massive again (5626), and the wind is a clean cross-off from the WSW at 9 mph. That's a standout session for the hardcore crew – a rare, clean, heavy swell at Point Addis. But remember, this is two weeks out, so it’s a promising one to keep an eye on, but not set in stone.
After that, it’s back into a total washout from July 15th through the 17th with strong onshore SE winds and messy, short-period swell. The weekend of the 18th offers a tiny, weak 2ft SW swell, but with onshore wind, it’s not worth the drive.
So, to cut through it: The best bet is the clean, head-high plus swell on Friday morning, July 3rd, for the experienced crew. For the rest of us, the small but perfect conditions on Monday morning, July 6th, are your best chance for a clean, fun session at Point Addis.
Rusty.
