Playa San Pedro Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, let’s get straight into it. Honestly, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim for any proper surf at Playa San Pedro. We’ve got a long stretch of tiny, weak, and messy conditions ahead, so don’t expect to be getting any decent waves for a while. The water’s sitting at 84°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s the one thing that’ll be nice if you’re just having a splash around.

The first real glimmer of anything shows up on the morning of Thursday the 13th of August. There’s a jump in energy – we’re talking a combined swell energy of 368 – with a 3ft SW groundswell rolling in on a 16 second period. That’s proper long-period energy, the kind that can really shape up. But the wind is the letdown. It’s cross-shore from the NW at 15 mph, building a lumpy cross-chop. It’s not going to be clean, but there’s some push there. The swell direction is from the SW, which is just off the optimum NW for this spot, so it’s not going to be perfect, but it’s the most interesting it’s going to get all week. This is the one to keep an eye on if you’re desperate.

After that, it’s back to the small stuff. The winds stay onshore or cross-onshore, and swell heights hover around 1ft to 3ft with short, weak periods. The energy values mostly stay in the single digits or low double digits, which is just weak. There’s a little bump on the afternoon of Friday the 21st of August, with 2ft of WNW swell and a bit more energy (25), but it’s still short-period and pretty junky. And that’s pretty much it. A lot of waiting, not a lot of riding.

The only thing that could be worth a look is that Thursday the 13th window, but it’s not a classic. The rest of the period is a write-off for paddling. If you’ve got a kite, the cross-shore winds on the 13th and 14th might make it more interesting for you, because the waves aren’t going to offer much for a surfer. It’s a long, flat spell, and it might be a while before things turn around.
