Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it for the Ile d’Oleron - Vert Bois/Les Allassins stretch. We’re looking at a pretty flat and quiet outlook overall, with no real standout sessions. The water’s sitting at a noticeably warm 71.9°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you’ll be comfortable in a shorty or even boardshorts if you’re brave.

The first bit of surfable waves shows up Saturday the 5th, but it’s nothing to write home about. Saturday afternoon brings a 3.6ft swell from the WNW with a 13-second period, giving moderate energy (431). The wind is a cross-off from the NNW at 12 mph, keeping things clean, but the overall vibe is marginal – tide could mess with it. Still, it’s the biggest swell of the opening days.

Sunday the 6th morning has smaller 2.6ft waves from the WNW with an 11-second period. The wind is light from the east at 3 mph, cross-off, so it’s clean but very ordinary. By Sunday afternoon, the wind swings west and picks up to 12 mph, turning cross-on and choppy – not worth it.

Monday the 7th morning offers a 2.6ft swell from the WSW, but the period is a long 15 seconds. That long period at a beach break setup can mean the waves break a bit too straight and make for tricky shape. Wind is light cross from the WNW at 9 mph. Monday afternoon has 3.6ft from the west with a 13-second period, but again cross-on wind and choppy conditions. Combined energy is moderate (504).

Tuesday the 8th is a write-off – small, onshore wind, choppy. Wednesday the 9th has a clean 4.3ft from the WNW in the afternoon with a cross-off NNE breeze at 16 mph, but the swell period is short at 9 seconds, so it’s weak and lumpy – poor surf quality.

Thursday the 10th morning is clean but tiny at 2.3ft. Friday the 11th morning has 4.3ft from the west with a 10-second period and light cross wind from the NW at 3 mph – marginal but the best of a poor bunch. After that, it’s a long stretch of poor or tiny conditions through to the middle of the month.

The one real glimmer comes on Wednesday the 16th in the morning. The swell is 3.0ft from the WNW with a solid 12-second period, giving moderate energy (277). The wind is a light cross-off from the NNE at just 3 mph – clean conditions. The forecast says “expect good surf conditions” here, and for this region that’s the best we’ll see. It’s still small, but with that period and clean winds, it could offer a few lined-up waves for the patient surfer. Crowds are sometimes an issue at this spot, so you might have company.

From the 17th through to the 20th, it’s back to tiny, clean but small waves in the mornings, and onshore chop in the afternoons. Nothing worth chasing.

So, the pick of the whole 16-day run is Wednesday morning the 16th – small but clean, with some decent period. Everything else is marginal at best. Don’t expect much, but if you’re local, you might squeeze a few fun ones in that morning.
