Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the next couple of weeks for Ile d’Oleron - Vert Bois/Les Allassins.

To be honest, the first several days are a bit of a write-off. We’ve got a run of tiny, weak swell and moderate offshore winds that keep the surface clean, but there’s just no energy to work with. From Wednesday the 22nd through the whole weekend, you’re looking at waves around 0.7 ft to 3 ft, with combined energy barely breaking triple digits – it’s a real fizzer for a paddle. The water is a balmy 74° (much warmer than usual for this time of year), which is nice for a float, but not for surfing.

We finally get a bit of life early on Monday morning the 27th. A small WNW swell pushes in at 3 ft, and with a light NNE breeze giving us clean conditions, the combined energy hits 106 (moderate). The period is 9 seconds, so it’s a short-period windswell, but it’s the best we’ve seen. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. Don’t get too excited.

The next little window pops up on Wednesday morning the 29th. The swell is still tiny at 1 ft, but the wind is light and offshore from the north, so it’s clean. The energy is weak at 61. Still not worth a special trip.

The standout of the whole forecast comes early on Thursday morning the 30th. The wind goes glassy – dead calm – and we get a 3 ft swell from the WNW. The energy is 82 (weak), but glassy conditions are a major positive. For a beginner-friendly spot like this, that’s about as good as it gets. It’ll be tiny, clean, and user-friendly. Crowds are sometimes a thing here, so you might have some company.

Later in the forecast, on Sunday morning the 2nd of August, we see a jump in size. The swell hits 4 ft from the west with a 10-second period, and combined energy is a solid 314 (moderate). The wind is light and cross from the NW. It’s a marginal call with questionable tide conditions, but if you’re keen, that’s the biggest wave of the run. It’s still small enough for intermediates, but the cross-shore wind will put a bit of texture on the face.

The last session worth mentioning is Monday morning the 3rd of August. A clean 3 ft WNW swell with a moderate offshore breeze from the NE. Energy is 109 (moderate). It’s surfable, but nothing to write home about.

So, to sum it up: the best on offer is the glassy, tiny morning of Thursday the 30th, followed by the biggest but messier Sunday the 2nd of August. Most of the rest is flat or barely rideable. Keep the expectations low and the wax warm.
