The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Mancora.

Alright, so the outlook for Mancora over the next couple of weeks is a bit of a mixed bag. We’ve got a solid run of swell, but the wind is gonna be the main character here, and unfortunately, it’s not always a friendly one. The water is absolutely roasting, way warmer than normal for this time of year, coming in at 77°, so you can leave the thick wetsuit at home.

Things kick off on Friday, the 28th of August, with a decent 4ft SW swell rolling in, packing a massive amount of energy. The problem is the wind is a light cross-onshore, so it’s going to be a little bumpy. It’s surfable, but you’ll be working for it. Saturday the 29th sees a bit more size, with 6ft SW swell, but the wind stays messy, and the mornings are the only real window before the afternoon wind howls.

Sunday the 30th of August is where it gets interesting. The morning brings a clean offshore wind from the NW, and while the swell drops to 4ft, it’s that offshore flow that makes all the difference. This is your best bet early on. The wave energy is a bit weaker, but it’ll be glassy and clean. The afternoon, though, is a no-go with the wind switching back onshore.

Now, for the standouts, you really have to look at the first week of September. Tuesday the 1st of September morning has that same magic combo: offshore wind from the NW with a 4ft SW swell. It’s small, but clean. The real standout, though, is Friday the 4th of September morning. We’ve got a solid 6ft SW swell with a light cross-onshore wind. It’s not perfect, but that’s the biggest, most powerful swell of the period and the wind is manageable. That’s the one to circle on the calendar.

After that, the second week settles into a pattern of smaller, cleaner mornings. The 8th and 9th of September have some 4ft SW swell, again with light winds in the AM, but the energy is moderate and the consistency is a question mark. The afternoons are a write-off across the board with those fresh cross-shore winds.

Overall, it’s not a classic, but there are windows. Crowds are possible at Mancora, so get out early. Stick to the mornings, especially Sunday the 30th of August and Friday the 4th of September, and you’ll find something to ride.

Rusty.
