The Lowdown

Alright crew, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s coming for La Herradura.

We’re starting off slow, but a proper SW groundswell is on the horizon, and this point break is going to turn on. The water is 69°, which is way warmer than it should be for this time of year—a real bonus.

Tuesday the 25th and Wednesday the 26th are small. Waves around 1ft to 2ft from the SSW, with clean, glassy conditions thanks to a light offshore breeze. The energy is weak (103 to 199), so it’s just a paddle-around. Thursday the 27th is similar, though the afternoon gets a longer 14-second period, giving a bit more push (428 energy). Still not the main show.

The real standout is Friday the 28th. We’ve got a strong SW swell building to 6ft in the morning, hitting 7ft by the afternoon, with a very long period of 16 seconds. The combined energy is pumping (1637 to 1950). This is powerful groundswell, and with clean, light offshore wind all day, La Herradura is going to be firing. This is for experts only—the size and long period will create powerful, lined-up waves perfect for a point. Crowds are often here, so expect a full lineup.

Saturday the 29th keeps the energy high, with 6ft to 6ft SW swell and a 14-second period. Still excellent for experienced surfers (1048 to 1299 energy). Sunday the 30th and Monday the 31st see the swell easing from 5ft down to 4ft, but the quality stays very good with clean conditions.

Into the first week of September, the swell drops a bit but keeps a long period. Tuesday the 1st and Wednesday the 2nd are cleaner, smaller days. Then Thursday the 3rd sees a new pulse of long-period SW groundswell (18 seconds!) building to 4ft, with excellent conditions again. Friday the 4th is another standout: 6ft SW swell, 16-second period, light offshore wind, and a massive 1579 combined energy. Another day for the experienced crew.

The second week keeps delivering. Saturday the 5th through to Tuesday the 9th hold 5ft to 3ft SW swell, with clean offshore winds and long periods between 11 and 16 seconds. The energy stays moderate to strong (514 to 933). The quality is consistent—very good to excellent surf, day after day.

If you’ve got to pick the best, Friday the 28th of August and Friday the 4th of September are the ones. Big, clean, powerful SW groundswell with perfect wind. Just be ready for the company.

Rusty.
