Table - best surf conditions forecast for Maenporth over the next 16 days.
Alright, I’ve looked over the forecast for Maenporth, and I’ve got to be straight with you: it’s looking pretty grim for the next 16 days. There’s a real dry spell on the cards here, with no good surf on offer at all.
Right now, on Thursday the 9th, we’ve got tiny, almost flat waves – just 0.3ft – with a really long period swell from the south. The water is a touch warmer than normal, sitting around 63°, which is about 3° above average for this time of year. The wind is light, but it’s cross-shore, so it’s not doing us any favours. There’s next to no energy in the water (3).
Friday the 10th stays poor, with the swell trying to pick up a little, but it’s a messy, short-period wind swell from the east-southeast, maxing out at 3ft by the afternoon. The wind is onshore, so it’s choppy and ugly. Wave energy is still weak (31).
Saturday the 11th sees a bit more size, around 4ft to 5ft from the east, but the period is still short (6 seconds) and the wind is cross-onshore. The combined energy is starting to build (114 to 180), but the quality is not there. It’s just lumpy, bumpy, and poor.
Sunday the 12th gets bigger, with 7ft to 8ft from the east, and a slightly longer period of 7 seconds, but the wind is howling cross-onshore at 19 to 22 mph. The energy is moderate (438 to 571), but the surf is a mess. This is looking more like a kite-surfing session than a paddle-surfing one.
The following week gets even chunkier. Monday the 13th has an 12ft swell from the east with a period of 8 seconds, but the wind is a strong 25 mph cross-onshore. That’s a lot of water moving (1570 energy), but it’s blown out, dangerous, and only for experts. The rest of the week stays in the 6ft to 8ft range, but it’s all cross-onshore and messy until Wednesday the 15th.
Wednesday the 15th afternoon might be the only glimmer. The swell drops to 4ft from the east, but the wind finally swings offshore from the west-northwest at 12 mph. The surf will be clean, but the energy is low (176) and the period is short (6 seconds). It’s small, but it’s the cleanest it’ll be.
From Thursday the 16th onward, the swell fades away completely. We’re looking at tiny 0.3ft to 3ft leftovers for the next week, with clean offshore winds a lot of the time, but there’s just no wave energy to work with. The energy values drop into single digits or low double digits. It’s flat, clean, and empty.
The break itself is inconsistent and sheltered, and with this forecast, it’s not going to break with any quality. A blank run like this is more normal for this area, but it tends not to stay poor for long. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it, but for now, there’s no reason to paddle out.
