Alright, Rusty here, and I've got to be straight with you—over the next 16 days, it's a tough watch. There just aren't any good surf options on the cards, so let's not sugarcoat it. The flags are all showing poor surf conditions right through, and that's the reality for this stretch.
Right now, we start off with a big ol' nothing. From Thursday 2nd July all the way through to Saturday 11th July, we're looking at a solid gap where there's barely a ripple. The wave energy is near zero, swell heights are a measly 0.3 ft or flat, and while the winds sometimes turn light offshore or even glassy, there just isn't any push to work with. It's frustrating, because a spot like Maenporth is a sheltered little beginner setup, and the water temp is sitting at 62°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so it's not all bad for a swim, but for surfing? Dead.
Come Sunday 12th July, we see a tiny flicker of life. Swell energy finally ticks up to 106 (moderate wave energy) around midday, with a wave height hitting 4 ft from the ESE, but it's a short-period 6-second wind swell. It won't have much shape, and the wind is cross-shore from the ENE at 6 mph, so it would be lumpy. It's still rated as poor surf. That window doesn't last either.
Then we get Monday 13th July morning, a bit more hope with 1 ft from the WSW, a 15-second period (groundswell), and glassy conditions with a light WSW breeze. Energy is at 116 (moderate). That sounds promising on paper, but the wave height is so tiny it's barely pushable for anyone with a log. And it fades fast. By the afternoon it's back to 0.7 ft.
After that, from Tuesday 14th July onward, we're into the second week and it's just more of the same—tiny, weak, poor surf. A few sessions show glassy conditions on the 14th, but with 0.7 ft from the SSW, it's flat. Winds pick up from the east again midweek, making things choppy.
With no real swell and a mostly cross-onshore setup on the days there's any size, honestly, this coast looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing through most of the stronger east wind days around the 9th to the 11th.
It's a dry spell, folks. Forecasts can change, and this area tends not to stay this quiet forever, but for now, keep the boards in the bag and watch the horizon.
Rusty.
