Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you—this forecast is a tough one. For the whole 16-day window, starting now and running through to the 26th of July, there's not a single session I can honestly recommend for a proper paddle. Every single entry in the data for Maenporth is flagged as "poor surf conditions," and the scores are all zeros. That's a blank run, plain and simple.
For a spot like Maenporth, which is a sheltered beginner break that's inconsistent, a long stretch of flat or messy conditions isn't all that unusual. It's a bit of a bummer, but it's the reality here. The water temperature is about average for this time of year, so at least you won't be shivering if you go for a swim.
We kick off this Saturday, the 11th of July, with some weak, short-period windswell from the east at about 5ft to 5ft, but a fresh cross-onshore breeze from the east (15-16 mph) has it all lumpy and choppy. The combined wave energy is weak to moderate (136-188). Not a chance.
Sunday the 12th sees the swell bump up to 8ft-8ft, but it's still a short-period east windswell with a strong cross-onshore wind at 22 mph. The energy jumps to a moderate 574-634, but the wind ruins it. Monday the 13th gets even bigger, 8ft to 12ft from the east, but with a strong breeze making it messy. The energy hits 1621, which is strong, but for a sheltered beach break, it's a write-off—more of a kite-surfing setup than anything you'd paddle into.
The conditions slowly settle as the week goes on. Wednesday the 15th afternoon sees a moment of glassy conditions with a tiny 1ft from the WSW, but the energy is weak (61). Thursday and Friday have some offshore winds, but the swell is tiny—0.7ft to 2ft—with periods all over the place. The energy is negligible (7-32). For the rest of the window, from the 19th through the 26th, it's all flat or near-flat with tiny pulses of almost nothing. The wind occasionally goes offshore, but there's no power in the water.
So, what's the takeaway? There are no standouts here. Nothing to get excited about. It's a flat spell for a sheltered spot, and the forecasts can change, but right now, I'd say save your energy and leave the boards in the shed.
Rusty.
