Table - best surf conditions forecast for Maenporth over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Maenporth's got lined up for us. I gotta be straight with you, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim. The provided data shows that every single time slot has "poor surf conditions" on the cards, so we're not looking at any standout days here. It’s a flat, blown-out run ahead.
We're starting off right now on Wednesday the 8th and going right through to Thursday the 23rd of July. There's a massive gap to kick things off; the first week is virtually a write-off. The swell is tiny, coming in under 3ft for days, and when it does pop a bit, the wind is gonna ruin it.
Let's start with the beginning. For the first several days, from the 8th to the 11th, you're looking at barely anything. Swell heights are down around 0.3ft to 3ft, with a pretty weak energy reading (3 to 49), and it's mostly coming from the East. That's cross-on shore for Maenporth, which means choppy, messy conditions. Not worth paddling out for.
Come Sunday the 12th, the swell does start to pump up a bit. We see a real jump in energy, hitting 476 on the Sunday morning and 567 in the afternoon, with the swell getting to 7ft from the East. But don't get excited – the wind is howling from the East at 35 km/h, making it a lumpy, cross-on mess. That trend continues into Monday the 13th, where we get a massive 12ft East swell (energy reading of 1836!) but strong winds at 45 km/h are turning the ocean into a washing machine. That size is in the expert-only zone and with the wind, it’s just a kiter’s day, not a paddle surfer's.
The wind doesn't let up through the middle of the week. Tuesday the 14th is still blown out with strong cross-onshore breezes. The water temperature is sitting at 17°C, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
Into the second week, we start to see the wind swing offshore. The swell stays small, though. Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th see clean conditions with a nice offshore breeze, but the swell is tiny – 2ft and dropping to 1.0ft. The energy is low (down to 12 on Friday afternoon). It’s clean, glassy water, but there's just no power behind it to push a surfboard. Saturday the 18th is the same story; a glassy surface, but the swell is a pathetic 0.3ft.
The real kicker is at the very end. On Monday the 20th, we get a clean 4ft swell from the East with a fresh offshore wind, but the period is short (5 seconds) and the energy is still weak (92). Tuesday the 21st looks slightly more promising: a 5ft to 6ft East swell with a bit more period (7 seconds) and moderate offshore winds in the afternoon. The energy reading is 219-261, which is at least moderate. Still, with that short period and East direction coming straight into the sheltered bay, it’s likely to be a weak, bumpy wave. Not the quality we want.
There's no standout break here. The whole 16-day window is full of poor conditions. I'd say don't bother for now; it tends not to stay this poor forever, but this is a blank run.
Rusty.
