The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. I've been staring at the charts for the home break, and I gotta be straight with you—it's a lean stretch ahead. For the first twelve days, from the 6th of August right through to the 17th, it's a write-off. We're talking a solid week and a half of poor surf conditions. The wind just won't play nice, mostly a cross-onshore mess, and the swell is tiny and weak. There's barely enough energy to move the seaweed, let alone a surfer. The combined energy values are all in the double digits or low triple digits, struggling to get past 200, which tells you it's weak sauce. It's a tough run, but it's just how it goes sometimes.

Now, hang in there, because we finally get a glimmer of hope. The first real standout arrives on Tuesday the 18th of August. Luz (reef/jetty) is the only break in the game here, and it finally shows some life. We're looking at a cleaner morning session. The wind swings around to a light cross-offshore from the NE at 6 mph, which is a massive improvement. It'll be clean. The swell pushes up to 4 ft from the WNW, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 251 (moderate wave energy). It's not a giant day, but after the drought, a clean 4 ft with some push is a welcome sight.

Then, Wednesday the 19th of August morning also looks promising. The wind goes completely glassy, calm as a lake. The swell drops a touch to 3 ft from the NW, but that glassy surface is major. The energy is moderate at 140. It's a smaller, cleaner morning session for the crew who can get out. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so nothing too wild.

Beyond that, it starts to fade again. The 20th has a glassy morning but the swell is tiny at 2 ft, and the 21st is back to a cross-on breeze. So, your best bet is to mark your calendar for the 18th and 19th of August. Go get a slice of that clean, glassy action before the next lull sets in.

Rusty.
