The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you—Lime Squash has got one decent session in the whole 16-day window, and it’s this Sunday morning. Outside of that, it’s a flat spell that stretches from Sunday arvo right through to the end of the forecast. That’s a long blip of nothing.
So, Sunday 30 August morning is the one to pencil in. Lime Squash picks up a clean 7 ft swell from the ENE, with a moderate offshore breeze out of the SE at 15 mph. That’s proper—the wave energy is moderate, clocking in at 895, and with the wind keeping things tidy, it’ll be glassy and clean. The swell period is 10 seconds, so it’s got some shape, not too fat, not too zippy. This is beginner-friendly territory too, so if you’re learning, it’s a good spot. But don’t expect company—crowds are just sometimes, so you might have to share a bit. Water temp is 84°, dead average for the time of year.
After that Sunday morning window, it all falls away. By Sunday afternoon the swell drops to 0.3 ft, and we’ve got fresh offshore winds but no wave to ride. Monday 31 August through to Monday 14 September—that’s over two weeks—it’s all under 2 ft, mostly flat with fresh offshore to cross-off breezes. Wave energy stays under 100, often in the single digits. There’s no surf. The wind is there, the swell is not. Honestly, for an exposed spot like this, it’s more of a kite session than a paddle one later on, but you’d need the swell to cooperate.
Lime Squash is inconsistent, and this run shows it. It’s not unusual for the area to have these gaps. The only standout is that one Sunday morning. Get on it early, because after that, it’s dry as a bone.
Rusty.
