The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you on this one. The outlook for Lime Squash over the next 16 days is a real struggle. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with barely a ripple. The first real sniff of anything surfable is a long way off, and even then, it’s hardly a celebration.
The whole first week is a write-off. From Thursday the 16th right through to Sunday the 26th of July, the wave energy is just pathetic, with most days showing a combined energy of less than 15. You’re looking at ankle-snappers of 0.3ft to 1ft, if that. The wind is a constant fresh breeze out of the east, mostly cross-off or offshore, which keeps the water clean, but it’s like having a clear runway with no plane. There’s just nothing to ride. The water is sitting at a balmy 82°F, which is bang on average for this time of year.
Now, we finally get a pulse on Monday the 27th of July. The morning shows a bump in the swell to 4ft from the ENE, and the combined energy jumps to 240. That’s the first moderate energy we’ve seen. The wind is a fresh offshore, which is a major positive – it’ll be clean. But, and it’s a big but, this is a short period swell at 8 seconds, and combined with a risk of thunderstorms, it’s a messy prospect. The forecast only gives it a marginal score. For a beginner break like Lime Squash, 4ft is a bit of a step up from the flatness, but it’s not huge. Short period means it’ll be a bit crumbly and inconsistent. It’s the only blip on the radar, so if you’re desperate, it’s your best bet, but don’t expect much.
After that Monday, it’s right back to nothing. The rest of the month and into August 1st is dead flat with zero energy. A real bummer. This is a long stretch of nothing, so it’s one of those times to just wait for the forecasts to change.
Rusty.
