Table - best surf conditions forecast for Pine Grove over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Well, I’ve had a good look at the charts for Pine Grove, and I gotta be straight with you—it’s a tough stretch. We’re looking at a full 16-day window starting now, and to be honest, there’s not a single day that I’d call a standout for paddle surfing. The whole period is a write-off for decent waves, so let’s just get into why.
Right from the first recommendation, Saturday the 11th of July, it’s flat. Swell’s barely a ripple at 0.7 ft from the ENE, with a modest 16 units of energy. That’s weak. Wind’s blowing a steady 16 mph from the east, cross-off, so it’s clean enough but there’s just nothing to ride. The water’s warm at 84 °F, with the anomaly sitting at 1 °F—pretty average for this time of year.
We roll through Sunday and Monday—more of the same. Tiny 1.0 ft swells, short periods around 8 seconds, energy barely cracking 20 or 30. The easterly breeze hangs around, keeping the surface tidy, but you’d be floating out there. Tuesday afternoon the 14th sees a jump to 3 ft from the east, but with a period of 7 seconds and 120 units of energy, that’s still weak and gutless. The "poor surf conditions" tag says it all.
Wednesday the 15th through the rest of the first week is a dull repeat: 1.0 ft to 3 ft, short period, cross-off wind. The energy peaks at 98 on Wednesday afternoon, but that’s still nothing to write home about. The easterly breeze stays moderate, but the swell is just too inconsistent and weak to bother.
Now into the second week, and it’s no better. Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th show a slight bump—Sunday morning hits 4 ft from the ENE with a 6-second period and 103 units of energy. That’s a short-period windswell, not a groundswell. By Monday the 20th, we get the biggest numbers of the whole run: 5 ft from the east, 6-second period, 166 units of energy. But again, it’s sloppy, short-period junk. Wind’s up to 19 mph, which is a fresh breeze, but still cross-off. That combo isn’t going to produce any kind of quality wave at a sheltered sandbar like Pine Grove.
The last few days from the 23rd to the 26th taper off back to tiny 0.3 ft to 2 ft stuff. No energy, no shape.
So here’s the honest truth: for the entire 16 days, every single entry is marked "poor surf conditions" with a score of zero. There is no standout period, no hidden gem. The swell never gets above 5 ft, the period stays short (mostly 6 to 8 seconds, with a few 10-second blips that still have no energy), and the wind is a constant moderate-to-fresh easterly cross-off. That wind direction is 16 to 19 mph, which is not offshore but cross-off—it keeps the water clean but doesn’t help the waves.
Pine Grove itself is a sandbar, sheltered, and fairly consistent in the sense that it does get swell sometimes, but it breaks rarely enough that a blank run like this isn’t totally out of the ordinary for the area. The optimum swell direction is from the north, and we’re getting nothing but east and ENE, so it’s completely mismatched for the break.
In short, leave the board at home. This setup looks more interesting for a kite session with that consistent side breeze, but for a surfer? Nothing doing. Hang in there, things can change.
Rusty.
